2  Mind racing Memory loss, lethargic midday, night eating, driving, sexual activity I desperately want off ambien! I started taking it after I gave birth to my son. My adrenaline was so spiked that I didn't sleep for 72hours when coming home from the hosptial. I was 26 and now 41. Never gone without it. My memory loss started several years ago to the point I blank on my words mid sentence. Ive blacked out and had a threesome with my husband after a night of drinking. Felt so much shame (divorced now but I look back and think about my ex husband, who is a Dr, knowing the side effects while drinking and allowing that to happen) About 4yrs into taking ambien, I drove to a 24hr grocery store and purchased milk. When I left my driveway, I backed into my neighbors sons car that was parked on the street. When arriving home, there was a knock on my door from the police. Thank god I wasn't arrested. Apparently, I played it off. None of this occurred to me until I found the receipt for the milk the following day and everything that occurred started coming back to me. (Memory). I'm addicted to this medicine and want more than anything to get off! My attempts to stop are unsuccessful as I will lay in bed until 3am, doze in and out a few minutes until my alarm goes off at 7am. I'm now at a place where I have no memory at night, even before I take it. It's like my brain is wired to shut off when the sun goes down. I'm only 41 and I donā̈́ F 41 15 years

5  Insomnia I've been taking ambien for over 10 years. My primary care doctor wanted me to stop taking after 3 or 4 years, but I protested as I couldn't rally get to sleep without the Ambien. It works for me. I usually split the pill: half (5mg) when I go to bed; and I split the remaining half into quarters (25mg) as I get up several times in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. I am probably "psychologically" dependent on Ambien. While I would like to get off, I ask myself "Why?" It works! I have not experienced the bad side effects I read about (memory loss, sleepwalking, vision problems). I experience anxiety, although I don't think this was caused by the Ambien - I think I had the anxiety before I started taking Ambien. I've been taking ambien for over 10 years. the instructions were to take it only for 7 days, but my doc said that it was ok for me to take it on a continual basis. when i first started taking it i did not need it for getting t Overall, I think Ambien (zolpidem tartrate) is a good drug for insomnia. It has worked for me. M 74 10 years

1  isomenia I was sleep walking, actually crawling around on the floor at 2:00 am in the bedroom according to my husband. In the morning I had no memory of being out of bed. On the other night my husband found me in the closet hiding in the corner, again with no memory. This drug is poison and will never take it again, it should be BANNED! F 67 3 days

1  Shift sleep disorder Sleep walking, amnesia, head ache, inability to sleep, memory loss, confusion, waking in places that I did not go to sleep in, combative. I stopped taking it after I awoke in my basement with some of my firearms disassembled and in various stages of cleaning out of my safe. I did not go to sleep in my basement, but 2 floors above. I also grabbed the keys to my truck and attempted to leave and go somewhere, but my wife stopped me. I had no recollection of these events. M 45 60 days

2  insomnia Chronic anxiety and, high tolerance in short amount of time, wears off quickly, did not feel rested in morning. Memory lapse and disorientation after 6 or 7 days. Started off w/10 mg before bed, Worked fast then after a couple of days needed more and then it wore of rapidly. I am a recovering alcoholic, the desire to drink again after many years of sobriety became overwhelming, stopped using the Ambien. Would rather not sleep than to start drinking again. Couple of people at AA told me of similar problems but not most,2nd time I have tried this drug in three years, there will not be a third time M 58 2 weeks

5  insomnia If taking more than 5 mg a headache the next day is the result. Some days a little dull feeling, but 100mg caffeine cancels that out beautifully.Have to stop some days to increase the number of sleeping hours, use .75 mg of lexotan 4 days and all is okay.Always feel that I have good memory. No alcohol use. Use generic Zolpidem white tablet fabricated in Danemark, good results. If used Zolpidem(ambien) with care and intelligence results are splendid to alter psychophysiological insomnia. God send! M 70 8 years

1  KILLED sister due to sleep driving Cooking, making phone calls, online purchases, etc...with no memory of the event. Orders would arrive at her door and people would tell her about conversations they had with her. She was addressing these issues but sadly it ended with sleep driving on a familiar highway traveling North in the South bound lane hitting a car head on. Sleep driving is one of the side effects which is insane, I don't even take it but fear for my life now because of the drivers who do. I would bet the young woman my sister hit that is now disabled for life would agree this should be taken off the market. F 26 1 years

3  chronic insomnia hair changes/ hair loss, depression, memory loss, dependency, decreased muscle tone, slight weight gain/ water retention. 29 yo female, taking ambien for chronic insomnia. My PCP claims that I experienced extreme side effects. I was not on any other Rx drugs other than ambien. Went through a variety of tests to determine there was no underlying reason for my hair loss and nothing out of the ordinary was detected. About 4 months after I stopped taking it, I lost weight and my hair started to grow back. I would NOT recommend this product. F 29 18 months

2  Insomnia I had the usual problems as most people. Driving, buying things online, cooking, eating, sexual activity. I have been off this medication for over 5 years, and I STILL have the same episodes at night. I have several specialists looking into this. Believing that being on this drug for so many years may have changed my brain in some way. I still have conversations with my husband, eat, have sex, etc. and have absolutely NO memory of it in the morning. I thought it was helping me in the past, but it has effected me in a way that still causes me problems 5 years after my last pill. I don't know of anyone else experiencing this AFTER stopping the medication, and especially for this long afterward. If this medication altered my brain in someway, and this is how the rest of my life is going to be, they will be hearing from my attorney. F 40 10 years

5  Insomnia Hallucinations and memory loss if I stayed up on it I love, love, love this drug. I suffered from severe insomnia and this was the only drug I had that made me fall asleep so fast that I didn't even remember laying down for more than 10 minutes. I would wake up feeling refreshed and re-charged for my day with no lingering side effects or grogginess. However, I HAD to get in bed once I took it. I stayed up one night reading a book, and let's just say that was not all I ended up doing. I apparently went to the store for junk food, ate the junk food, purchased things online, made some embarrassing Facebook posts, and texted my friends at 4am. I had NO memory of it. One night I stayed up just a little later on it and hallucinated that fairies were coming down from the ceiling. It was not unpleasant, however. And if I was woken up on it without 8 hours elapsing from the time I took it, I would say and do things I had no memory of. I was woken up for an emergency once after 4 hours of sleep and apparently told my sister I liked ice cream and we should make cookies...at 3am. I also had to go to the hospital that night and had no memory of the experience the next day. But when I take it and go to sleep, it works perfectly. M 29 5 months

5  Insomnia Short Term Memory loss over time. I took half a dose of Ambien 10mg for 4 years with great results. Slept well and no after effects. Occasionaly I needed the full dose to be able to sleep. I noticed with the full dose I started having nightmares and felt tired throughtout the daytime so cut back to half doseage and was fine. Occasional sleepless nights but mostly a good night sleep. After about 5 years I started having a lot of short term memory loss and the doctor even put me in for a brain scan which turned out normal. Took me off Ambien and put me on Tamaepam and my memory has begun to return to normal. M 58 6 years
