| 1 | Headache | I was already in the hospital when I developed a migraine and Stadol was administered. After one IM injection I became stuporous. I've been told my speech was very slow and slurred plus I was talking gibberish. My gait was stumbling and uncoordinated. The weirdest thing is I was not even aware of it. I thought everything was normal until my boyfriend came to visit and asked me what was wrong. I barely remember the 1st 24 hours following the injection at all. I do recall being asked to sign something and not remembering how to hold a pen, let alone write my name. The next day I still couldn't maintain my balance and walk correctly so I was sent to physical therapy. My doctor advised me the adverse side effects could be permanent. Thank heavens, they only continued for three or four days. | Stadol is the first drug I mention when asked if I have any drug allergies or have ever had an adverse side effect to medication. A different time in the ER the doctor wanted to give me butorphanol for a migraine. I got suspicious and declined it when I asked what the brand name for butorphanol was and he said 'It doesn't matter'. This was after I had already explained I had a bad reaction to Stadol. Memory loss. | It turned out my baby had the umbilical cord around his neck. He couldn't come down so my contractions became really intense, right on top of each other. I wasn't dilated enough for an epidural because he wasn't coming down (Though at the time they weren't aware why). Within 4 seconds of being given stadol via IV (3pm), my eyes rolled in the back of my head. At that time I was conscious of things around me and what others were saying but was unable to move much and speaking was really difficult. The next 9 hours are a blur, I remember telling people that I thought if I closed my eyes I would die, having to use a bed pan because I couldn't move, and intense fear. I found out later my blood pressure dropped to 60 over 20. Around midnight they figured out that something was wrong and my boy was delivered via c-section after midnight. I have vague memories of his birth. It took them 2 minutes to get him breathing, not sure if stadol or the cord was the issue. I still could not talk well at that point. Instead of getting to hold my baby at 12:30am, I had to wait until 6am. I saw him for a few minutes after he was born. I do remember hearing him cry for the first time. I would never risk it had I known of stories like mine. The doctors were shocked at my reaction to it, though they shouldn't have been if they had access to stories like mine and others. I could feel every bit of pain. I could hear everyone talking and understood what they were saying. BUT, I could NOT move. I tried all the migraine meds and they did not work. The heavier drugs such as Morphine, etc., give me awful rebound headaches. I have a very rare genetic degenerative disease. I don't tolerate medicine well and I do not react in the prescribed way. I'm not sure why, and this is something no one has been able to explain. I also feel very "swollen" when I take it, almost like it makes me retain water. I was fine in the hospital while I was in and out of a coma like state. But as the drug wore off I became angry and argumentative. I made no sense because I could not think straight. Worst drug ever. Biggest problem I have had is that doctors seem scared to prescribe it even when they know about the triptan allergy. It was not the nurses at CMC's fault as a matter of fact it was their quick response at bringing me back and I am thankful. Just stay AWAY from STADOL. Second time to use in my life. First was after car accident 12 yrs ago. Now it's for spinal degeneration pain including a cyst on my cord, multiple disc pathology, sciatic pain, "significant" stenosis, etc, etc, etc. So far, I've gotten ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from this drug. Almost zero discernable pain relief. Years ago it made me all loopy and silly and giggly, and completely unaware of my pain. Now it's only like I've taken a unisom or benadryl from over the couter (FIVE nasal sniffs in 3.5 hours). NOTHING. Back and hip still hurting the same, still limping, pain still stabbing me in the groin and butt cheek. I'm just sleepy, like it's been a long day. No euphoria or silliness or lightheadedness, just a horrible taste in my throat that ruined my dinner, and heavy eyelids, and not in "a good way". So anyone seeking pain relief, or especially "drug fun," should look elsewhere. This drug is too tiny, too fricken hard to come by, and it's not worth all the bullshit you have to go through to get it for this little pain relief and only a set of heavy eyelids that a long, hot shower could give you for a lot less money. | F | 41 | 2 days 2X day | 5/16/2013 Patient History | 3 | Debilitating Migraines, | pain relief seems to be primarily on the side I used the spray on-not sure why. Couldn't hold my eyelids open-but not asleep Have trouble falling into a deep sleep if I have taken Stadol past midday, at bedtime it seems to put me in that sleeping but not asleep state, so waking up not feeling refreshed. Nose bleeding, Sinus congestion was bad after using it, Dry mouth , Itching all over, but especially my nose Bad taste in throat after 10 minutes or so Couldn't relax felt "overstimulated" by my surroundings | I've had debilitating Migraines since 2005 and none of the migraine meds work for me. Tried the Botox shots & had an allergic reaction to them-not fun at al! I am getting pain relief from the Stadol but I am not sure the side-effects are a good trade-off for me. Perhaps if they lessened over time, as my body adjusts to it, it would be okay. Death was so beautiful. No fear, no regrets, no reason to stay. Something brought me back. Maybe a major contraction caused me to inhale a major breath of oxygen.
