BETAPACE  (SOTALOL HYDROCHLORIDE):  This medication is used to treat a serious (possibly life-threatening) type of fast heartbeat called sustained ventricular tachycardia. It is also used to treat certain fast/irregular heartbeats (atrial fibrillation/flutter) in patients with severe symptoms such as weakness and shortness of breath. Sotalol helps to lessen these symptoms. It slows the heart rate and helps the heart to beat more normally and regularly.  3  Ventricular Tachycardia (non-sust) Started taking 80 mg twice per day. Experienced extreme sleepiness, which caused problems with driving and staying awake during the day. Also seemed to cause eye and mouth dryness. Did reduce incidence of arrhythmias greatly. Doctor said I could cut dosage in half, and that helped with the sleepiness, but not completely. F 41 6 months

 2  Atrial Fib I have been on this drug about 3 weeks (80 mg per day). In addition I take Toprol 25mg,Levoxal 25mg, and water pill (25mg). Currently I am also on Coumadin 3mg. My blood pressure has been very low...98/61...heart rate at 81. Seems that when the blood pressure goes down, the AF starts. Previously I was on Pacerone, which worked well at 400 mg per day. However we pushed it to 200mg level per day and my AF started all over again. Also the side effects started happening, low thyroid, sun sensitive, and eye problems. F 62 21 days
