I'm very active (riding bike approx 100mi/wk) but I'd lost interest in anything requiring energy or thinking. Symptoms started within several days of my first Amlodipine dose, but it took me two weeks to put 2+2 together. Within a week after stopping the medication I'm feeling normal again. Who knows? - I don't trust it, so I've got a call into my doc to get a different med. (I'd previously been on 20mg Lisinopril and had switched off that due to lowered energy and motivation.) | M | 53 | 2 weeks | 8/26/2008 | 1 | high blood pressure | I did not take it very long, maybe a week. I had just had a kidney transplant and my blood pressure started rising again. My doctor gave me Norvasc and I started retaining fluids.... this is not what a kidney transplant patient wants!!!! I have had to start taking low doses of Lasix daily to keep the fluids off now. AFTER AN ONLINE SEARCH I TOLD MY DR I THOUGHT AMLODIPINE WAS CAUSING MY EDEMA, HE CUT IT FROM 10MG TO 5 MG.1 WEEK LATER WENT TO THE ER FOR NAUSEA, AND THEY DISCOVERED IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT.WHICH IS A KNOWN SYMPTOM OF NORVASC.30 DAYS LATER,STILL HAVE THE IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT, BUT EDEMA & INSOMNIA ARE GONE. I CAN WALK AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2 YEARS. THEY ARE DOING TESTS ON ME TO TRY AND GET MY HEARTBEAT IN CHECK. SO FAR THEY HAVE NOT ADMITTED IT MIGHT BE DUE TO THE MEDICATION!! SINCE I NEVER HAD IT BEFORE, AND DIDN'T GET IT UNTIL I CUT THE DOSAGE, I AM CONVINCED IT IS FROM THIS DRUG. NOW I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT MY HEART, A POSSIBLE STROKE, OR HEART ATTACK. . Been on it for some years but recent times have seen the onset of Osteo Arthritis and for that I take Ibuprofen (Motril) which has made the leg swelling much worse. My doc thought that i was in the early stages of heart failure and some time was spent rather anxiously waiting for a heart echo cardiogram but that told me that all was well and that it was in fine condition. My pharmacist said that i was taking the two worst drugs to cause that, ankle swelling that is!.. | Well I decided to ask my GP to see if something else was available and for the last couple of weeks I've been on Exforge which is a combination of Amlodpine (Norvasc) and Valsarten (Diovan) the Amlodpine content is down from 10 to 5 mg and thus far i seem to be having less side effects and the gum swelling has abated somewhat and so has the ankle swelling. We still have some side effects but I think that some drugs suit some people better then others. Side effects will always be with us in one form or another. BP has also reduced somewhat!.
