1  Lactation suppression Horrible horrible drug don't even know how it is administered so dangerous. I was prescribed it because I had stopped breastfeeding abruptly and the doctor said that this drug will stop my milk production: I took one pill that night and instantly woke up in the night with extreme nausea. Then the next morning I took another pill and went to do grocery with my 9 month old baby. I was feeling even more neauseus than the previous night then my ears started ringing and my vision started to blur I was about to faint I quickly sat down and had to sit there with my head between my knees then I finsally started to feel a bit better when I got up I had this massive urge to vommit I ran luckily I made it to a restroom I've never vomited so much in my life the rest of the day I felt horrible like I was dying I threw the medication out as soon as I got home. There's no way I was going to take another pill. Still can't believe that this drug is administered. Do your research people there are natural alternatives for all illnesses within the body get educated. Big pharma does not care for your health thwtbinky care about making money every medication has side effects. F 26 2 days

1  Prolactinoma Blurred vision, stuffy nose, dizziness, forgetfulness, confusion, twitching, bilateral headache, heart palpitations, peripheral vaso-constriction (L Foot), constipation, increased depression, lumpy painful breasts, nightmares and outrageous vivid dreams. My endocrinologist has insisted over the years that I keep trying to tolerate this medication due to it's benefits (bone density etc). After 14 more weeks of side effects even with vaginal administration, I have been advised to STOP taking the Bromocriptine due to the increasing amount of side effect I seem to have every time I attempt to take this medication. The most interesting side effect this time has been lumpy and painful breasts, which should have been the opposite to what should have occurred.....according to the endocrinologist! Finally my specialist has admitted defeat on this drug and has instead decided to supplement estrogen levels if they become too low......Hallelujah! F 46 100 days

3  Prolactinoma Irritability, light headed, nausea, no appetite. Those were most of my symptoms, thank goodness, I wasn't on this RX for long. Where I fill my RX, I would assume, the Brand is something they do not keep in stock. When it comes to this condition, I ask for only, the generic (Bromocriptine). My Prolactin levels were over 180, and since the medicine is working, they do not see a need for the surgery. That, is just fine! I'm so sorry to see a lot of you are unhappy with this RX, if possible, see if you're able to get the generic (Bromocriptine), you'll be satisfied with that choice. I'm in the healthcare field, and believe me, your insurance loves GENERIC meds. Bless you all! F 37 5 years

2  Prolactinoma Before i was diagnosed with prolactinoma,i had terrible head ache, missed periods, mood swings and tender breast. The doctor told me that it's the cause of elevated prolactin which is 59 so they put me on parlodel for 1 month. 2 weeks of taking the med i experienced light headednes, irritability.after 1 month my prolactin level went back to normal. Then after 2 months without parlodel it elevated again so my doctor told me to take parlo for two months. Last monday, i had my test and the result is soooooo weird! Instead of going down it went up. from 54 to 120?! Still waiting for my next appoinment with my dr F 32 2 months

3  Pituitary problems, high prolaction Dizzy, low blood sugar felt faint once or twice at first, confusion once, Skin rashes also on Lip. Some constipation, but not too bad. This med also helps me sleep. I had pituitary tumor removed back in 2001. Prolaction level has now gone up again and no menses. I have also gained weight. I was on bromo/parlodel years ago briefly. I was also on Dostinex/Carbogeline with even more horrible side effects. So trying Bromo again to lower prolactin and resume ovulation and periods. Although I hear it can take a few months before becoming pregnant. Not sure how much my prolactin levels have gone down yet. Need to see the endocrine specialist for follow-up lab/test. F 39 30 days

1  Hyperprolactinemia Extreme nasal congestion, hair loss My fertility doctor placed me on this medication for a slightly elevated prolactin level. My MRI was normal. I did not want to take the medication, but felt obligated to give it a try at the recommendation of my physician. The first night I COULD NOT breathe through my nose whatsoever. Try falling asleep with your mouth open! Not fun. I called my doctor the next day, and I was told to take the medication vaginally. I did not like the sound of that, especially since I did not want to take it in the first place. The nasal congestion stopped once I started the vaginal administration. Several days into the course of treatment I noticed more hair in my comb than what I was used to seeing. As I paid closer attention, I noticed excessive hair falling out during the day. There was no way I was going to put up with it any longer. I called my doctor and they ordered another prolactin test. My level dropped significantly within a short period of time on the medication. My doctor told me I could discontinue the treatment (which I had every intention of doing anyway). My hair continued to shed up to 200 hairs per day for the next 3 months. It finally stopped and now falls within the normal range of daily hair loss. For a woman with long hair, it was a complete nightmare. The drug successfully lowered my prolactin, but the hair loss was horrific. Of course, the treatment did not result in a pregnancy either. Take with caution, and be sure to ask about potential side eff F 38 10 days

4  Prolactinoma Sleepliness, dizzy/groggy. Constipated. Not as bad as the first time I took Parlodel many years ago. Prefer this to the alternative which is Dostinex and caused me to hallucinate. This is my third time returning to Parlodel----my fourth round w/ a prolactinoma. I had been off the medication for 7 years, and recent lab work for another condition showed that prolactin is elevated at 53. F 51 10 days

3  Microadenoma Stuffy nose 4-5 hours after the first dose, 2.5mg, sleepiness, slight headache on one side(right),numbness in the arms, stuffy head and puffy eyes, light nauseous, dry eyes My prolactin level was incidentally showed a slightly high.less than 30 and higher than 24. The MRI showed 2-3mm slightly increase in the anteria of the Pituatary Gland. Without confirmed test, my doctor told me the vast majority is benigh and put me on Parlodel to shrink the tumor. I asked how can one confirm if it is benigh, invasive or malignant; the anwer was: the microedenoma behaves like a benigh tumor: the small size, secreting prolactin and most of all, most tumors within the Pituary Gland is noncancerous. If it gets larger, radiation and surgery can intervine. The surgery can be done via my upper gum and the tumor will be nipped off. Large tumor can interfere with my vision...causing headache and I won't be able to see things on my sides, only what is in front of me. This is the worse scenerio. So my heart goes out for all victims who has PIT tumor and wish all of us recover well. I am a very active mom with three teenage boys, working full time and helping the community. Having to take this medication somehow slows my daily activity down for now. I hope the side effects will subside soon so I can go on with my daily activity. F 44 1 days

PARLODEL  (BROMOCRIPTINE MESYLATE):  Bromocriptine is used alone or with other medications (such as levodopa) to treat Parkinson's disease. It can improve your ability to move and can decrease shakiness (tremor), stiffness, slowed movement, and unsteadiness. It may also decrease the number of episodes of not being able to move ("on-off syndrome"). Bromocriptine is also used to treat high levels of a certain hormone made by the body (prolactin). High levels of prolactin may cause problems such as unwanted breast milk, missed/stopped periods, difficulty becoming pregnant, decreased sperm production, and decreased sexual ability. Bromocriptine may be used to treat a type of tumor which causes the high levels of prolactin (prolactin-secreting adenomas). It can help to reduce the tumor size. Bromocriptine is not recommended for stopping unwanted breast milk after pregnancy, miscarriage, or abortion because of possible serious side effects (such as high blood pressure, seizure, heart attack, stroke). Bromocriptine is also used to treat high levels of growth hormone (acromegaly). Bromocriptine is an ergot medication that works by acting like a certain natural substance (dopamine) in the brain. It also prevents the release of certain hormones (growth hormone, prolactin). Bromocriptine can lower these hormone levels, but it does not cure the causes of the increased levels.   (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
