| 5 | Depression | If not carful on dosage I find it very difficult to look out into a bright sunny day as if I was being "snow blinded" in the winter. As soon as I lower my intake by one pill a day (from 4 down to 3) the problem goes away. Sexual side affects: yes. At about the age of 60. Problems with food: no. Problems with having operations: no. | When I lower my dosage too far I get to be very hard to live with and I have the feeling, and say it, SO WHAT, I DON'T CARE WHAT HAPPENS. Sleep is difficult but with the doctors help I have a Rx for sleep. I have stopped taking it twice but each time I found it difficult to think and almost impossable to complete a thought line. While on Nardil I have several miner operation, including dental, and one major operation, Cancer of the Prosrate. Problems after the operation: Less then many of my freinds have. | M | 73 | 35 years | 8/6/2006 | 2 | depression | very intense low blood pressure causing fainting, sleepiness...although i was taking a few other prescriptions with this drug (as prescribed by my doctor) it is possible that this caused tardive dyskinesia. | intense sleepiness during the day for the first month, and sleeplessness at night for a year. i had to take other meds to help with the sleepiness/insomnia. the diet is very difficult. especially since i am a vegetarian. i had to start eating meat again...and ended up in the hospital for three days after a food reaction. i never want to repeat that experience again. especially since the doctors and nurses in this particular emergency room were not that familiar with MAO inhibitors, and i had to tell them what was going on with me. | F | 30 | 2 years | 7/12/2006 | 5 | social phobia & depression | minor weight gain, low sex drive | I felt normal for the first time in my life, able to work fulltime, and college fulltime and raise teens. pfiser changed formula in 2003--after that darkness once again | F | 48 | 6 years | 5/24/2006 | 3 | Treatment resistant depression | No real side effects. | The diet is tricky, but not that terrible. It didn't help completely, but there is some improvement, the first in probably five or six years. | F | 31 | 14 months | 5/13/2006 | 4 | OCD depression | Hassle with the special diet, no side effects to speak of (unlike SSRIs and the major sexual problems) Got a bit too high on the higher doses. Postural hypertension. | Great for depression, helped a bit with the OCD . Been on SSRIs they're OK, but still remember the good times on Nardil !! Reluctant to return, as Nardil lowers blood pressure (can kill) and if the wrong food is eaten, makes the blood pressure dangerously high. | M | 45 | 10 years | 4/15/2006 | 3 | Depression | Dose related extreme hypotensive episodes (abnormally low blood pressure leading to nausea, dizzines, almost passing out). Loss of libido. Sleep disturbances coupled with afternoon tiredness. | It did help partially but I couldn't get to proper theraputic levels due to severe hypotension side effect. Too bad, because even at low levels it seemed to work as well as most other meds I've tried. Other than hypotension in my case the side effect profile was no worse than most others I've tried. | M | 43 | 90 days | 3/3/2006 | 5 | Depression, anxiety | Constipation, sleepiness, high BP, sexual probs | Brilliant drug! Nothing beats it. Works so well, makes all s/effects worth it. When you take this drug properly it creates a health euphoric feeling. Brilliant! | M | 27 | 4 years | 2/15/2006 | 3 | Anxiety and social anxiety | Immense weight gain (it took me 4 years to loose the weight successfully), dry mouth that lead to severe tooth decay, grinding of teeth in my sleep that caused my fillings to errode at a rapid pace, sexual side effects and emotional detachment issues that have been hard to overcome, and led to the failing of my 7 year partnership (I have been off the meds now since 1/2001 and when I went off, I went off cold turkey with no problems) | If you need it, you need it! but try something else first! this is a last resort, especially considering the dietary restrictions of no cheese, wine, beer, or preserved anything... MAOI inhibiters are difficult to navigate with over the counter meds as well. | F | 36 | 5 years | 6/28/2005 | 5 | depression | Went through many anti-depressants, with little therapeutic effect, then started Nardil with Lithium, and depression lifted. Had side effects that for the most part disappeared. Trouble sleeping at night, having to take a nap during the day. But nothing too bothersome. Plus, you do not develop tolerance to the medication, so you can take it indefinitely. | F | 55 | 22 years | 5/24/2005 | 5 | depression-anxiety | Sexual-Drousyness-Little bit hard to urinate-Weight gain. All were temperery except I had to diet to loose yhe weight gain. | I have tried every type of antidepressant and have had severe mental side effects. With Nardil much improvement over deppression and anxiety attacts completely eliminated. I briefly stopped Nardil with almost no side effects to try Prosac. Same severe mental side effects as all other antidepressants. | M | 56 | 21 days | 4/24/2005 | 4 | depression | none, so far-- I've only just begun | F | 42 | 4 weeks | 2/10/2005 | 5 | depression | extreme orthostatic hypotension | It's so great I'm going to try it again perhaps along with an antihypotensive if neccessary so that I can get back up to therapeutic dosage for me. And mind you, I was in the hospital for ten days while they tried to figure out what was going on with me! | F | 54 | 8 weeks | 2/7/2005 | 3 | Social Phobia | F | 22 | 2 months | 9/27/2004 |
