They gave me this and within minutes I felt I had to break out of the chair and rip out the IV. I couldn't not move my legs or they would be severely uncomfortable. I became very anxious and as someone with bipolar disorder I was freaking out that this may induce an episode. Once they gave me more Benadryl I was fine. | M | 21 | 1 days 1X day | 4/12/2022 | 1 | Nausea, suspected gastroperisis | Depression and anxiety. Dr never said not to take for more than 12 weeks. Within seconds of it hitting me I instantly went into a terrible panic attack. I have never had a panic attack in my life. It was HORRIFYING. some much uncontrollable anxiety hit my chest, my heart started racing and I couldn't sit still. I truly felt like I was going crazy. I got SO hot and wanted to rip my clothes off. I felt trapped and scared. I have never experienced this in my life and would never ever want to again. It wore off about 10-15 mins later but I was still very uneasy/jittery the rest of my night. I legit almost ripped that crap off of my arm and ran out of the hospital. | F | 26 | 1 days 1X day | 3/7/2021 | 1 | Severe migraine | Injected as part of a migraine cocktail for severe migraine. Within about a minute, set off my Restless legs and I just wanted out of there. Benadryl was part of the initial cocktail. | Horrible. | F | 56 | 1 times ? 1X O | 12/2/2020 | 1 | Nausea, vomiting, severe headache | The ER gave this to me as part of a cocktail that is used for migraines. Except I wasn't experiencing a migraine. I told the nurse I have reacted badly to Reglan in the past but she still gave it to me. As soon as she started injecting it my heart rate went up to 128, I told her my heart was racing and I didn't feel good and I felt extremely hyper, like I needed to get up and run. My legs were shaking. She stopped for a min and watched my heart rate and said it was high but it was going back down so she continued to administer more medication. I couldn't sit still! I started shaking uncontrollably, my teeth were chattering and clenching, my hands were shaking and flapping all over. I felt like I was having a seizure. She looked at me and asked if I wanted a warm blanket. I said I wasn't cold I just can't stop shaking. She said I just needed to give the medicine time to work and I should feel better. I got 2 other medications, benadryl and lorazepam. I don't remember much after that except waking up. When I woke up I had to pee. I tried to get up but my legs felt so heavy I could barely walk. One of the nurses had to help me to the bathroom because she was worried I would fall. I WISH I HAD REFUSED THAT MEDICATION. It didn't help me at all and just added to my symptoms, making me feel worse. The only thing that helped me was the zofran for the nausea and vomiting. The Reglan and other medications did nothing for my headache or the pain. They started the discharge process and a | F | 51 | 1 days | 2/21/2019 | 1 | Migraine | IV and received benedryl with to avoid this side effect but did not work..Severe Anxiety, feeling like I couldn’t be still and wanted to jump out of my skin, legs were in constant motion, increased hr and blood pressure. My chest still hurts due to this Concoction I've beem having Anxiety All day Feel like My Chest Is Tighting every time i walk it's Horrible | Please do not take this | F | 27 | 1 times N/a | 7/6/2017 | 1 | Severe stomach pains, undiagnosed. | I took Reglan for 6 months to 1 year. 17 years later, I still vomit / reflux my food that I rechew and swallow constantly-jokingly, I am like a cow that must rechew its food. It's so embarrassing. I eat slowly and have stomach emptying issues which are hard to define. When I first noticed the effects was after I stopped taking it fully, before while on it, I had sever acid reflux. After stopping reglan, I began projectile vomiting food or liquids. It was crazy. Just sitting, vomit. Walking, vomit. Movement, vomit (like a baby spits up). I still clench my teeth, bite my lips and grind my teeth. Now I understand the severe panic episodes while on Reglan were due to this drug. The depression, sadness, anxiety, weight gain, numbness in the pelvis and upper leg areas when taking or readjusting a year later is now evident of the side-effects I had no idea about. This drug has kept me from having a normal life. Please don't take this drug. | F | 41 | 12 months 1X day | 5/21/2017 | 1 | after open heart surgery | Legs shaking, fixed facial expressions, periods of sleep where you can't wake up, when the hallucinations started they took it seriously and they were able to take off the only crazy med on the list | Do not let them give it to you! | M | 79 | 4 days | 6/19/2016 | 1 | Nausea in hospital | Severe anxiety/panic/terror, severe depression, delirium, muscle spasms, twitching muscles, sore arms/legs/!back and shoulders, weakness, jaw clenching, toes twitching, hysterical crying, inability to concentrate, fear, inability of being alone, disassociation from my child, insomnia and inability to stay asleep etc | Do not take this medication. I went to the ER for nausea and the dr gave me this via IV. I reacted to the first dose and they ignored me and gave me 2 more- too close together and I went into a delirium. Following that was severe gut wrenching depression and anxiety- both of which I never had before! That was 2 months ago and I have been suffering ever since. I have symptoms going on. I'm unsure of how long this is going to take but I am trying to fight for my life- as crazy as that sounds- this drug will destroy a perfectly normal life and person. I have never had mental issues before and I have had to see a psych. They prescribe meds but I won't take any. I am trying to heal on my own. However the physical stuff scares me- I am praying to God my exposure does not cause Tardive Dyskenisia. I notice I clench my jaw a lot and my neck/mouth hurts. I feel like Im holding my tongue weird and it's freaking me out. I'm seeing a neurologist soon to try and find answers. This has been a complete nightmare and I can't believe I've gone through this from a medication. I wouldn't believe it was true if it didn't happen to me- a perfectly normal functioning person turned into a basket case. This drug will put you through immense torture both mentally and physically. Please do your research and do not take this medication. I regret that day more than anything!!!!! | F | 32 | 1 days 30 mg | 6/8/2016 | 1 | Nausea/Acid Reflux | Muscle Spasms,Serious Depression And Anxiety,Arm And Leg Weakness, Shakey Hands, Abdominal Cramps | I Went From Being Normal And Fine To Being Depressed And Not Myself After Taking This Drug!! I Stopped it almost 2 weeks ago and I'm still having all these horrible affects when will it get better I'm ready to lose all hope here and give up | F | 27 | 2 days 10mg | 5/30/2016 | 1 | Nausea and vomiting | I was admitted to Yale with Sx of nausea and vomiting. In order for me to be discharged the Dr. wanted me to eat. So, the nurse gave me a double dose...she called it...of Reglan IV Push. Before giving me this drug, I told the Dr. that if the medicine has any side effect of anxiety, depression etc....I will have a paridoxal effect. He assured me that Reglan had no bad side effects. Immediately after administering this drug I felt like I had to jump out of my skin, depression, anxiety, RLS, jitteriness, disconnected from world. The nurse would not give me anything to reverse the effects and told me I should breath threw it and sent me home like that. 3 weeks later, I still have waves of depression, anxiety, RLS, jitteriness and could care less about daily activities. I don't think I will ever be the same again...very scared! | This drug should be off market!!!! | F | 1 days 30mg | 10/13/2015 | 3 | Gastroparesis, nausea, vomiting | Recently diagnosed with delayed stomach emptying it helped but I'm jumpy, restless, out of it. I can't stop chewing or moving my legs. I get bursts of energy followed by intense lethargy. I wanna run then sleep. When I do sleep my dreams are crazy I feel like in losing my mind. I stopped taking it | F | 40 | 10 days 10mg | 9/12/2015 | 1 | migraine | This drug should be banned!!! I had a severe panic attack & felt like I was going crazy! I didn't think I would ever feel normal again. My skin was crawling & my legs were so restless I wanted to run! Never again!!!!! | Ban it!!! | F | 47 | 1 days | 8/13/2015 | 1 | Pre-op medication | i got the reglan IV push and as soon as it hit my bloodstream, I immediately had a feeling of impending doom. I became anxious and couldn't sit still. Literally was climbing the walls and trying to get out of the hospital. My legs felt restless and I couldn't stop moving them. My mom was with me and she got real nervous. Finally I was able to talk and said, "get the doctor". I'm an RN and I had no clue this was a side effect. Scared me so bad that the Anestheiologist had to come give me a sedative. | I feel this medication should have a black box warning and should be reevaluated for use of so many different diagnosis. | M | 22 | 1 days 20 | 7/2/2015 | 1 | seasickness | suicidal thoughts, loss of appetite, problems swallowing, tongue sticking out, facial grimacing, terrible twitching all over the body: legs, face, neck, trunk, fingers, lips would pucker/smack, heart palpitations, feelings of a seizure about to happen, near-panic attacks, rapid heartbeat, sweating, stiff and painful neck, eyes unable to focus, severe depression and anxiety, shaking like Parkinson's Disease, horrible bizarre dreams, visual hallucinations, terrible mental dullness, lethargy, mind is numb and fuzzy, strong feelings of sleepiness, hopelessness, fearful all the time. Instead of Reglan for seasickness, I would recommend just eating a green apple or some ginger before you get on a ship. This helps and there aren't any long lasting side effects. | I took a total of 40 mg of Reglan. This past year was very challenging for me. I spent the first 4-5 months of recovery talking myself out of a suicidal depression and anxiety attacks/fear. The one thing that kept me fighting was my sense of perseverance and hope...that one day things would get better, and they did. Although it's been about a year since I took Reglan, I still have some side effects, but 98% of them are gone. The mental dullness lingers, but I barely twitch. When I twitch, it's very, very small. All of the other side effects are gone. I'm sure to say that by this summer, things will have healed completely. I measured my recovery not in hours or days, but in weeks and months. I've been to several neurologists and one of them suggested that there might be a genetic predisposition/intolerance to metoclopramide, the chemical that's in Reglan. This would explain my temporary condition. When you hurt the brain, it takes a long time to heal because of the blood-brain barrier. I'm posting this to help people. The doctors wanted me to take their medications. I told them no because I wanted my brain to heal naturally. Because I'm not a doctor, I can't tell you what to do with your body. I can only tell you what I myself did to get through this mess: I took Omega-3, E, C, and B complex vitamins. I ate bananas and salmon, went to the gym often, kept a journal, avoided being alone, went outside a lot. Hope this helps | F | 26 | 4 days 10mg 1X day | 1/14/2014 | 1 | recovering from surgery | tremors/shaking in my arms/legs, heart pounding, depression/suicidal thoughts, hallucinations/anxiety/jittery feeling/trouble staying still, feeling short of breath, insomnia yet tired, nausea/vomitting | This drug is straight from the pit of hell. STAY AWAY! They were giving it to me through my IV after surgery, so I have no idea how much or how often or for how long. All of my symptoms occurred in the first 2 days. | F | 32 | 2 days unknown 1X day | 5/7/2013 | 2 | Gastroparesis | Burning/stabbing joint pain, restless legs during day that transitioned to all-out thrashing at night, electrical "buzzing" feeling up and down legs/arms/back of head, itchy feet, anxiety, severe insomnia, total loss of motivation to be productive, complete loss of sex drive | Does this medication stimulate my stomach to overcome its paralysis and force food through into my intestinal tract? Yes. Am I going to approach my doctors tomorrow and tell them to install a feeding tube because I refuse to take Reglan anymore due to the horrific side effects (and due to Domperidone not working for me)? Yup. I've had a lot of serious health problems, but nothing has been as difficult to deal with emotionally and psychologically like the side effects from Reglan. I'd rather go through cancer treatment again a thousand times over than EVER use this drug again. My advice: if you take it once and immediately feel like you're going to jump out of your skin (or at least can run laps despite being ill), tell your doctors immediately, drink as much water as possible for the following week to flush it out of your system, and list it as a severe drug allergy with all of your medical providers. At this point I'm just hoping the damage isn't permanent. | F | 30 | 20 days 10 2X day | 4/29/2013 | 1 | stomach upset after procedure done | AWFUL! eyes rolled back in my head and set to ceiling, awful leg movements could not stop, now years later still have leg movements when trying to sleep and sucking on lip! I would never take this again! And strongly advise anybody to ever take this, They need to take it of shelves!! | F | 30 | 1 days 1 pill! | 2/5/2013 |
REGLAN (METOCLOPRAMIDE HYDROCHLORIDE): This medication is used to treat certain conditions of the stomach and intestines. Metoclopramide is used as a short-term treatment (4 to 12 weeks) for persistent heartburn when the usual medicines do not work well enough. It is used mostly for heartburn that occurs after a meal or during the daytime. Treating persistent heartburn can decrease the damage done by stomach acid to the swallowing tube (esophagus) and help healing. Metoclopramide is also used in diabetic patients who have poor emptying of their stomachs (gastroparesis). Treating gastroparesis can decrease symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and stomach/abdominal fullness. Metoclopramide works by blocking a natural substance (dopamine). It speeds up stomach emptying and movement of the upper intestines. This drug is not recommended for use in children due to an increased risk of serious side effects (such as muscle spasms/uncontrolled muscle movements). Ask the doctor or pharmacist for details.
