1  OCD; adjunct to Zoloft At first I had no side effects or benefits from the drug, so my doctor had me titrate up to 6 mg a day, over a period of about a month. I was only on 6 mg for about a day before I ran out of medication, so I went two days without any Abilify at all, and then went back on 6 mg. Within half a day of restarting the drug, I was more anxious and panicky than I've ever experienced, and that's saying something. I was paranoid and developed massive social anxiety issues almost immediately, thinking everyone was constantly discussing how weird I was, reanalyzing conversations I had and feeling incredibly embarrassed at everything I said. I started having non-stop insatiable What-Ifs that were totally implausible, but were so terrible to me that I wanted to jump out a window just to distract myself from the unstoppable stress and doubt. I read afterward that Abilify has a very long half life - about 3 days. It's been about 6 days since I stopped the drug and the anxiety is not much better. I can Abilify is scarier than any drug I've been prescribed. If your life isn't already at rock bottom, I'd be very wary of risking this drug, especially with so many others saying the same sort of thing. F 30 30 days

4  OCD and depression dry mouth, to begin with I felt sick and really tired, but that goes after a while. Weight loss I took his drug because I have been on 150 mgs of sertraline for OCD and depression and it just didn't work. I have taken risperidone before and it was successful, so wanted to try Abilify as it is the one least likely to put on weight. Felt awful to begin with and that was only on 2.5 mgs, so people that go straight on to 10mgs must feel terrible. In time though the sickness and tiredness has gone and I feel much better. The horrible OCD thoughts are gone or a lot more distant and I feel less depressed. If you take it in addition to an antidepressant I would recommend starting on a low dose, due to the side effects. Even though I have felt more hungry, I have found it easier to lose weight. I take it at night, because the hunger seems worse shortly after taking it, so now I don't notice much change to my appetite. F 33 10 days

4  Severe depression, OCD Initially, headache, anxiety with a "wired" feeling and constipation. All have subsided. I was on Zoloft 100mg/day, but depression worsening and OCD symptoms totally out of control. This medication saved my life. I only wish I'd gone on it sooner, as my Doc wanted me to. I was just afraid of being on an antipsychotic med, but he told me the psychosis dosage of Abilify is 30 to 60mg/day or more. That made me feel a bit better about it... F 57 6 months

2  OCD Loss of libido, buzzing sensations in head, short-term memory loss, poor night vision I have been on and off Abilify for 9 years. At 30mgs, I noticed the buzzing sensations, and all the other side effects listed. At 10 mg and lower, I still felt all the side effects except the buzzing sensations. I was taking abilify with lexapro, and a couple other drugs my dr. switched out for lexapro. The only good thing about this medication was, it did not experience RLS. When I finally weened myself off Abilify, the only side effect I noticed was restless leg syndrome. It is discomforting, but it only lasted about 5 minutes every other day. I am now off abilify, and lexapro. I am in therapy so I have learned a lot of ways to combat my anxiety, however the thoughts are hard to control so I am going to ask my doctor if he can prescribe something or the ocd, possibly anafranil.  4  OCD with psychotic features increased sex drive, little weight gain, insomnia, muscle stiffness. yes, the dosage is really 0,1 mg, taken with an insulin syringe and thrown in water. take always smallest dose as possible to avoid akathisia. Abilify could work very well if you don't develop that sense of restlessness. M 24 7 days

5  BIPOLAR II/OCD/ANXIETY/GAD none. AMAZING MED. I have suffered from this disorder since I was 18 (now 36). Absolutely debilitating, suicidal, etc. Within ONE DAY after starting Abilify I noticed positive effects. It's a week now and I have noticed the following benefits: no longer bothered by dirt or cleaning or getting wet (used to just give me a horrible body sensation)....public anxiety is a lot lower now, not obsessing over and over again in my head about what other ppl are thinking/saying about me. Have energy during the day, do not sleep all the time like I used to. Still suffer from insomnia but oh well. In the past week I have done more housecleaning than I have done in the past year combined. THIS MED WORKS WHEN PRESCRIBED TO THE RIGHT PERSON. I am so incredibly happy to feel almost normal again after being on almost EVERY SINGLE AD/ANTI-ANXIETY/ANTI-PSYCHOTIC med out there. I am on a low dose (2 mg). I feel free. F 36 7 days

5  depression, OCD more alert, motivated, racing thoughts greatly diminished, some nausea, no weight gain! I was leery about taking this, others make it sound like a nightmare drug. I have no doubt that it affects some people badly, but for me, it made a huge difference. I do wonder if this will wear off after a few months, but so far 5 mg have allowed me to think clearly, get off the couch and accomplish things. No weight gain but dr has me on Metformin to regulate blood sugar and cravings, so that might be the trick there. Important for everyone to monitor their own reactions carefully, or ask family members to help, because every drug works differently for every person. YOU know best what helps YOU. F 45 2 months

1  GAD/BPII/PTSD/OCD Severe depression/out of touch I was on Abilify for three weeks. I started with the 10 mg for two weeks and up to 25 the third week. On the 10 mg I started feeling "funny" and experiencing some side effects. By the third week I was self mutlilating (something I have not done in 15 yrs. I was so depressed I could not function at any level, very irritable and people just were too much to deal with. All I wanted to do was sleep and just disappear. My Therapist said it was like I did a 180 in two weeks and was so concerned she called my Psych. After seeing my Psych, she immediately took me off it and put me on Geodon...not sure if that is a possitive change or not. F 37 3 weeks

3  Post Tramatic Syndrome & OCD I wake up several times in the night and am not able to go back to sleep usually for an hour or so. I have never had this problem in the past. I have also been very restless and am not able to stay focused on one task for two long. I have to be doing something that is keeping me very busy. I have also noticed increased anxiety with this medication. M 36 1 months

1  OCD Extreme restlessness. I couldn't rest or sit still. My arms and legs were shaking constantly, my feet and toes kept shaking, it was terrifying and painful. I had to be out of school for a week because I was unable to sit still, I kept moving and my feet and arms and legs felt like they had to keep moving. I was so scared, I thought the pain wouldn't ever end. It took weeks after getting off it before the restlessness stopped. It was scary. The most frightening pill ever. I could not stop moving or sit still or lay down or rest. Abilify made my arms and legs feel like they had to constantly be moving and it felt so uncomfortable sitting still or laying down, I felt constantly restless. It was extremely terrifying and I was young and hadn't known the side effects the pill would give me. I was so scared the restlessness and pain was going to last forever. I could not lay down or sit still, I had to be moving every second and I couldn't rest. It was awful. Scary stuff.

3  depression, ocd, panic disorder Feel "blah", disconnected. Unable able to get restful sleep, like i am aware of everything around me. I toss and turn all night long. Slight dizziness, extreme hunger and thirst. Within an hour of taking the first pill i felt like someone had shut of a switch in my brain and my thoughts just stopped racing, which was great!! I am just so tired, I have always had vivid dreams and have had no trouble falling asleep, anywhere. I'm not sure i like the way i feel. Maybe i'm just used to being on high alert all the time, but i feel so "just here". My husband keeps telling me this will pass. I had been on 40mg of prozac for 11yrs and was taken of cold turkey 2 weeks ago, that went very bad. So now i am on 20 prozac and the abilify. Just don't know if i can hang in there!!! F 32 3 days
