| 1 | Endometriosis | Weight gain,hot flashes and the worst mood swings, depression, nervous breakdown,and anxiety attacks | My doctor stopped the treatment a month after my 3rd shot because of the anxiety attacks, depression and nervous break down, was horrible! Those episodes were causing so much problems in my life, nobody understood me, either do I. It's two month already since my last shot and I haven't have my period back but I have more hot flashes. This treatment did not work for me; the serious side effects almost kill me. I had 33 radiation treatments followed by injection of Lupron ( 3rd one ) 3 more to go. I am getting severe pain in one knee with swelling and mild and occasional pain in the other knee. Some days are better than others and Advil seems to minimze pain and I walk normal. Did some kneeling during some construction and days later ... interior meniscus of knee had acute pain. Chiropractor seemed to alleviate some symptoms but next it has moved to outside of knee in meniscus and ligaments an causing to limp and be in pain when I walk. Recently severe chills, don't know if it related. | The cold chills started about 2 weeks ago (just after my 2nd shot) and last about 30mins to an hr, until a hot flash takes over. I am painfully cold and can't get warm no matter what I do. The headaches tend to be mostly at night as well. I also had some leg pain the fist 2 weeks but it went away so I don't know if it was related either. I have one more treatment of Lupron and then I will be very glad to be done with it. The hot flashes and night sweets are causing a major lack of sleep and is wearing me down to the point where it is getting hard to cope. At night there are more like an attack. I also have type 1 diabetes and have a hard time telling a diabetic low from a hot flash which can cause, some serious problems. I only have to have the third shot as my surgery date has been moved. I don't think I can stand to have a 4th one if they move my date again. Two to three months of the side effects will hopefully be worth it for the surgery to be effective. I have had no we | F | 47 | 2 months | 4/16/2008 | 4 | Prostate Cancer | I have been on Lupron Depot 3 for 4 months, I had prostectomy July 2007, The only side effects I have had from Lupron are hot flashes and lower back ache. both of which are tollerable, | I was very wary at having Lupron injection , I read alot of the comments on this site plus many other sites, But I must admit I really have not had any major side effects from this drug, I feel it is everyones choice as to whether you have this drug injected, Everyone reacts differently to all chemicals , I feel the positives out weigh the negatives with this drug, I suggest people should use their own discretion in decisions, Not to just take what others have to say, We are all indaviduals and God gave us the ability to think for ourselves, Use that ability in every way possible to fight what ever cancer or disease you may have. I attend a support group each month, I have found it a great way to learn, It also allows you to be able to speak about your experiances regarding Lupron , Radiation ECT. I can only speak of my experiance with this drug, Maybe it works better for males than females, But I feel one never knows unless you try it, But please dont believe all the negatives you re | M | 59 | 120 days | 4/14/2008 | 3 | ENDOMETRIOSIS | Hot flashes, acne, mood swings... possible weight loss inhibitor. | I just had my 3rd injection. So far I've had several hot flashes-- not too bad though... yet? I've been receiving accupunture to help with the mood swings, i think i have them in check. Just in the past 2 weeks I have been experiencing forehead and chin breakouts. Acne was something that I've never really had a problem with... not even in my teen years. And, as always, weight gain is a concern. I've been working out pretty consistently, but the scale isn't moving- up or down. I should also mention that I had a multiple myomectomy and a left ovarian cystectomy in 12/07. My Doc removed 21 + fibroids, while discovering that I also had severe endometriosis--hence the treatment. My doctor has prescribed a half tab of Norethindrone to help with some of the side effects. Anyone else on this same cocktail? Speaking of cocktails, I wouldn't advise drinking too much alcohol while on this treatment. I was diagnosed with endometriosis at that time. My ovaries were left because the dr. felt I was too young to remove them. One year later, most of my pain and symptoms had returned. The dr. thinks this is due to my ovaries feeding more endometriosis in my pelvic wall. I have had 4 injections of lupron and my symptoms have only gotten worse, and now I have the side effects to deal with. ALT, AST and cholestrol were very high initially and have returned to top of normal; sugar higher and B.P. a problem too; also i'm always hungry. i've always had an aggressive daily exercise routine so i've confined weight gain to around 5# and believe exercise is key to L. management. it is certainly a little tougher to scull or cycle, but my yellow wristband is an inspiration. exercise also helps fight bone thinning - i learnt i had borderline osteoporosis readings in my spine from the baseline bone density scan. is anyone on a prescribed course other than 4-6 months and 28 months initially? i am concerned about becoming hormone refractory. i've been on effexor for 7 years for depression (strong genetic history) so can't tell whether it's helping with the sweats/mindset. I stoped bleeding with in the first 3 days. 2 weeks in I felt like I was loosing my mind. I was very short temp. I started bleeding with in the end of the 2nd weeek and stoped the 3rd week. All the time having sever pelvic and lower back pain. I havent had a period since. I took a higher dose 3 month shot on march 26th and today march 29th I Blew up. My temper went through the roof, I couldnt stop crying or shaking so I ended up in the ER. My blood pressure wich is usualy lower than normal was extremly high. They ended up having to give me Adderall to calm me down. As far as what the purpose of the meds are it is working but as far as side effects. Went thru: External conformal radiation 4 years later psa=7.0 Cryosurgery= no help Lupron 12/2004= the usual side effects. psa=0.26 Stopped Lupron 12/2007 I saw an article about a UCLA Med Center trial where 4,000 advanced PC men were divided into two groups 2,000 continued on Lupron 2,000 stopped Lupron and toke one 8 oz. of Pomegranate Jucie/day 4 years (as i recall) the results were that their psa was the same in each group with some in the pom juice group lower. My urologist agreed to my plan to stop Lupron and start pom juice. I started pom juice Sept 2007. PSA was 0.0.26 Checked PSA March 2008 it is now 0.10. I use the Pomegranate Juice concentrate (Sam's Club $16.00 += for 32 oz)(one oz = 8 oz of juice) so this about $0.50/day. Costco carries it also. Also available online. All the Lupron effects are slowly going away. Yes the pain is gone but the side effects are horrible, The mood swings are causing so many problems in my life, the hot flashes are embarassing, the cold sweats in the middle of the night I can't bare.. Any woman reading this should take Lupron as a last resort because the side effects seriously change your life and most people will not understand or care that it's the medicine making you act the way you do. A year after discontinuing I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and every dr. thinks this medication triggered this disease. My RA is VERY sensitive to changes in estrogen levels--there is a belief RA has an estrogen link as it is more common in women. I now have 2 other auto immune diseases and have seen more than 20 dr's over 6 years at Duke, UTSW, Baylor and Northwestern. They all agree that this med did something to my system. Someone mentioned feelings of insanity which I thought was ridiculous and which I dismissed but now I believe it. I realize how important it is to consider that side effects are not always physical. That is the case with this medication, the most serious side effect is the mental side effect. 4 months after I was injected I thought I would have a nervous break down. Everyone mentions the hot flashes. But these aren't 'normal' hot flashes. They are preceeded by negative feelings of dread/angst/agitation which admittably seem to be triggered by stressful situations.
