| 4 | Depression | Increased appetite, drowsiness (<200 mg), heart pain (<100mg), gain of weight, increased sugar lvl | I started taking 400 mg per day, gained weight (5kg-11ib), slept a lot, had problems with concentration, it was hard to focus on studying or anything, but that really helped me. I had small heart pain, especially when I was exercising, but that was more annoying not real discomfort. After three months I measured my sugar and got shocked, there was 7 mmol/L I got scared and stopped taking any drugs. Couldn't sleep for a week. After not long time I felt really bad. My doctor understood situation and lowered dose to only 50mg. At this dose I'm fine, even lost 12 Ib, but a little anxiety | F | 16 | 8 months 50 1X day | 9/21/2025 | 1 | Insomnia and mood stabilizer | Provider had me severely over medicated. Difficulty swallowing and if I wasn't asleep in twenty minutes I was in trouble. If I had to wake up during the peak effects of the medicine it was really bad. I had no weight gain but some bad breathing problems and elevated blood sugar. I had to stop taking this medicine | My provider didn't tell me about side effects and had me on it for way too long. I will never take it again | F | 66 | 3 years 400mg 1X day | 3/22/2025 | 3 | Bipolar 2 | I'm still taking this medication. NEUTRAL: -STRONG feeling of wanting to sleep within 30 mins to 1 hr of taking it -Hard to wake up before it wears off. When starting it, sleepiness wore off 12 hrs after. (E.g. taking it 8PM = waking up at 8AM at the earliest). 6-12 months in, I could wake up 6 hours after taking it NEGATIVE (only in the night after taking it): -Slurred speech as if trying to talk whilst very sleepy -Slower thinking and reflexes -Wanting to eat a lot after taking it (higher appetite but not hunger. Keep snacks away or just go to sleep right after taking it. Sometimes have a week where appetite is strong and I snack at night, but other weeks I just sleep early and have no issues with it. Had no weight gain otherwise) -Blunts creativity -Possible balance issues (see comments) -Inflames nostrils at night sometimes (first 5 years) POSITIVE: -Blunts hypomania which gave me more realistic expectations -Lowered excessive daydreaming and racing thoughts which allowed me to start to fix my life WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS: Had to miss one dose a few times due to travel and medical procedures. It's an awful feeling. I thought I was getting sick. You feel your skin become itchy and your body become hot and uncomfortable. I felt like I couldn't sit still. But when I took it again, withdrawal symptoms disappeared after I slept. | Dose: 25MG, 50, 100, then 50, 25. For the past year now on 1/4 of 25mg. Taken w/ 200mg, then 100mg Lamictal now. Both taken at night before bed, preferably sleep earlier (9-10PM) since sleep quality on Seroquel is better when I sleep earlier. "Pushing past sleepiness" on it is bad for me with my nightly dose. It just worsens sleep quality. For lowered creativity, I was lessening (not stopping) my dose 1-3 days, every two months "to get some creativity back" and that helped because big tablets are cheaper where I live and I've just been dividing them. When lessening the dose a bit, I just divide them a tad smaller. (Don't do if unstable) Also, I'm unsure if it's Seroquel, Lamictal, or both, but I developed balance issues soon after starting Lamictal, which became a bit stronger on Seroquel (I.e. have to hold railings going upstairs since I don't trust my balance) Also, taking N-Acetyl Cysteine 5-6 days a week for the past year has made me rely less on Seroquel. It has the same hypomania blunting effect with the plus of increased focus, at the cost of some anhedonia when taking for a month straight w/o stopping. UPDATE: Changing rating from 4 to 3 because inflamed nostrils before bed was terrible and I had problems with that for years before I got a particle HEPA filter and cleaned my bedroom more often. I suspect the on-and-off nasal congestion caused bad sleep early on, but that "bad sleep" was much better than the worse insomniac lack of sleep I | M | 28 | 8 years 25MG 1X day | 2/27/2025 Patient History | 1 | Misdiagnosis | Made me anxious, tired, weak, destroyed my social life, made me slow, made my memory worse, couldn't get up in the morning. | Why does this even exist? | M | 21 | 3 years 300mg 1X day | 2/24/2025 | 1 | Sleep issues | Yes it made me sleep but it also made me sleepy for nearly 24 hours. Made me groggy and listless. And it made me depressed. | It sounds like it works for some people but definitely not for me. I'm off it after three nights. Note that I am sensitive to all drugs and do tend to get side effects easily, but I'd be cautious with this one. Try melatonin. | M | 73 | 3 days 1X day | 2/14/2025 | 4 | Bipolar 1 depression | Makes a fattier version of you within weeks Dry mouth, digestive track issues, mydriasis | In order to keep myself sane and mentally healthier, i need seroquel. My main indication for this med has been bp depression, which in itself is debilitating, but also drags everything into hell all within your mind. Its a real shame that seroquel is makes you fat - by causing uncontrollable snacking late in the evenings and especially at night. ive had it 900mg x 1 in ER formula before for psychotic mania, but now its used to treat my depressed mood. And it does that quite effectively. I m on abilify, lithium and lamictal too - the beautiful art of polypharmacy… | M | 41 | 3 years 300 1X day | 11/13/2024 | 4 | Insomnia | Gained 10 pounds in 6 weeks, dry mouth, dizziness | Does what it was prescribed for, makes me sleep. Not sure the side effects make it worth taking, might ask my doctor for something else being a diabetic I crave sweet and salty stuff | F | 58 | 30 days 100 2X day | 7/26/2024 | 3 | Bipolar disorder, mania | I'm no longer taking this medication. I switched to Seroquel ER because I refused to stay on Seroquel after being on it for 1.5 months. | I switched to Seroquel ER because I didn't like Seroquel. | F | 40 | 1.5 months 25 mg 1X day | 5/7/2024 Patient History | 3 | Sleep .Effects lingered all day. | I'm no longer taking this medication. Fogginess and not so effusive in my emotion make me realized it affected my family life. 1/4 of 50mg before to sleep created those problems. I imagined the effects that creates to patients that take higher dosis. Some people may need it I am sure. Nowadays I take supplements which are costly. Tryptophan, theanine, ashwagandha, magnesium glycinate, glycine, gaba, melatonin. The milligrams of all those are important. All that throughout the day. | I stopped taking seroquel . I miss the fact that helped me to sleep 8 hours straight . 1/4 of the 50mg tablet was enough to sleep.I didn't like the fogginess and numbness in my brain and the future effects of the drug itself. I help my sleep nowadays with tryptophan, theanine, ashwagandha, glycine, gaba , magnesium glycinate ,melatonin, not at the same time but throughout the day. Mentally I feel more alert.; I'll be 70 yrs old this year so that is important. | M | 68 | 0 days 1/4 of 50m 1X day | 3/21/2024 Patient History | 5 | Bipolar Disorder | None. | This has enabled me to stabilize my mood and prevent mania maybe 98% of the time. A higher dose would make me too tired. It does not cure mania. It just keeps it at bay. | F | 59 | 15 years 100 mg 1X day | 2/23/2024 | 5 | CPTSD | So far I love it. I used to cry every single day from trauma and now I don't. I feel like this pill dries my eyes. Yes it is emotionally blunting but this is what I need. I feel things too deeply. I needed a break from being sad. So far I am pleased . | F | 32 | 2 months 25 1X day | 8/25/2023 | 2 | Bipolar | Gained 50-60 pounds and completely wrecked my body/figure even after I lost all the weight and returned to my normal lbs. Memory loss, binge eating, always tired, unable to concentrate. Was informed of outlandish comments and inappropriate conversations I made that I have no recollection of. I know looks are not the point of life but it is often difficult looking into the mirror and imagining what I would look like if I never took this drug. | It has been 6 years since I was 14 and took seroquel. I do not have bipolar disorder nor have I ever been manic, doctor wrongly prescribed me this after learning my family history as a precaution. I was just depressed and going through puberty. I am sure this medicine helps people but should only be given to people diagnosed with bipolar disorder, not used as a precaution to people predisposed. | F | 14 | 4 months 400 mg 1X day | 4/1/2023 | 3 | Bipolar I, CPTSD, Panic Disorder | Increased appetite, nightmares, agitation, urinary frequency, rash, skin peeling | F | 31 | 600MG 1X day | 2/18/2023 Patient History | 1 | To help anxiety and sleep better | It was offered to me after I weaned myself off of an addictive anxiety medication. It made me feel stupid but calm. | I was taking it to help anxiety, it shouldn’t be prescribed off label, it messes with your mind. The drug addicts in the neighborhood wanted it to feel high, I didn’t, I knew it was trouble if they wanted it . I took it for a few years over a decade ago. Didn’t know about this website until today. | F | 56 | 5 years ?25 mg 3X day | 1/26/2023 | 2 | To sleep | F | 32 | 1 days 25 1X day | 12/19/2022 | 4 | Bipolar, insomnia | Dry eyes ,stuffy nose ,weight gain ,vivid dreams, and very horny. | It helps me sleep and helped my mood swings | F | 23 | 4 weeks 200mg 2X day | 10/16/2022 | 5 | Bipolar disorder | Increased appetite but not a problem when taken last thing at night. A little groggy in the morning but easily solved with a coffee and nowhere near as bad as insomnia-induced grogginess | Absolute life changer, 200mg nightly allows me to sleep after decades of insomnia. 25 or 50mg taken as needed to mitigate depression, rage and/or mania on the fly works well. Clearly a lot of people have had problems with seroquel (quetiapine) but I can't recommend it highly enough. If your bipolar controls your life, as it did mine, quetiapine can give you your agency back. Speaking of which, you'll only gain weight if you allow it. | M | 47 | 10 years 200 1X day | 9/3/2022 | 4 | Chronic Insomnia | Dry eyes, dry lips. | Take with fish oil to offset the dryness | F | 50 | 1 years 25mg | 8/18/2022 | 5 | Bi-polar disorder | After having taken this large dosage, I began to experience toxicity almost overnight. I had to cut the dose to 600 mg. | This medication has made living possible to me. It has also made me pre-diabetic, and I have gained weight. But I am sane, which has more meaning to me than any of the side effects that I have. | M | 61 | 3 years 1200 1X day | 2/3/2022 | 1 | depression | Slept but turned into a zombie. Couldn't stop pacing. Dark, disturbing, violent thoughts. | Nurse-practitioner seemed to be in love with this drug. I asked for an antidepressant but she refused to give me one and insisted that I take Seroquel. When she saw that it wasn't working she insisted that I increase the dose. Had my husband give me more and more until reached maximum dose. Ruined my life totally for 4-5 years, even though I took it for only 10 days. | F | 74 | 10 days 30 mg. 1X day | 7/5/2021 |
SEROQUEL (QUETIAPINE FUMARATE): This medication is used to treat certain mental/mood conditions (such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, sudden episodes of mania or depression associated with bipolar disorder). Quetiapine is known as an anti-psychotic drug (atypical type). It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain. This medication can decrease hallucinations and improve your concentration. It helps you to think more clearly and positively about yourself, feel less nervous, and take a more active part in everyday life. It may also improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level.
