5  Anxiety/OCD No negative side effects. Increased energy and libido. I have been diagnosed with OCD for over 30 years. I have tried many medications. While Buspar isn't typically used for OCD it has been a God-send. I went from OCD hell to normality. While this may not be the experience for most people, Buspar has given me my life back. I've taken it for 3 years now and it has eliminated 90% of my symptoms and has little to no side effects. M 42 3 years

5  PTSD , Generalized Anxiety, OCD Severe dizziness first 30 minutes after taking it. Went away over time. This medicine has helped me so much. I finally feel normal. Antidepressants have never been helpful and make everything worse. This medicine is mild but very effective. F 50 2 years

3  GAD, OCD Made me a little tired Buspar was a nice night time drug for me. It calmed me down and helped me sleep. I was told it was not addictive. After three years of taking it I started getting mild flu symptoms. These steadily increased. I talked to my doctor and we decided to come off the Buspar to see if it was responsible. I quit taking it and the next day I had the worst flu I have had in awhile. Stayed home for two days. I went back on the Buspar and got better, but still had moderate flu symptoms. We decided to slowly decrease dosage. I've been off for almost a month and still have headaches, body aches and nausea, but they are SLOWLY improving. This is a hard drug to quit for me. M 51 3 years

3  Anxiety / Panic / OCD Heart palps, dizziness & blurred vision an hour after taking it. Worsened anxiety first few days. Titrated up to 20mg during a month. After reading many reviews and not seeing much improvement, changed to Mylan mfg from Teva. Noticed a change immediately but we shall see if it lasts.I’ve read it takes 4-6 wks to get full effectiveness. I’ll stick with it for 2 more weeks hoping for a good outcome. Else iI’ll quit it. Despite what the Med community, etc. tell us, I’ve read many consumers do indeed experience withdrawal. Not looking forward to that. F 62 31 days

3  Anxiety,OCD I have had water retention and have gained pound or two. I was pretty tired the first two days, but it's getting better today. I need to figure out this water retention. I am not gaining my weight back I lost five years ago. Not sure I'm going to stay on this yet. I'll see if the water weight subsides over the next month. F 45 5 days

3  Depression, Anxiety, OCD, CLOUD 9 FIRST 2 WEEKS!! NO JOKE!! I had runny stools but I didn't care, anxiety in morning but didn't care, that tapered off. I'm now at 5 weeks, my neck and shoulders are stiff and extremely sorry (kept thinking I was sleeping some awkward way), feeling nauseous a lot, back to loose stools, crave carbs and sweets, feel like my blood sugar is low all the time, but maybe it's my blood pressure? I have extremely low blood pressure anyway. I'm not on cloud 9 any longer. I'm just kind of blah, not crying but not smiling either. My OCD is pretty bad, I think and think and obsess!!! I'm staying on the med because it's taken this long for all of these side effects to show up, so maybe they will come and go. I'm also calling my Doc today, because the stiff neck is really bothering me. I did have night sweats but they stopped and so did nightmares. Don't give up on this drug right away!! I've heard wonderful feedback!! Good Luck!! I'm way better than I was!! I am not crying all the time. I'm not a mood swing mess!! I get out of bed, go to work, eat daily, take a shower, have energy, set goals, don't drink alcohol daily (I'm a recovering alcoholic), so this drug is definitely effective in my life!!! F 45 5 weeks

5  PMS, Tension, Stress, OCD Some spaciness, "dumbed down" feeling, quietness (didn't have much to say, introverted), sedation. I have NEVER taken a drug before! I am one of those that hates taking an aspirin when I have a headache. However, after too many years of "self-medicating" my GAD with emotional stress eating and having the extra lbs to prove it, I did lots of research and settled on Buspar w/ my doc. The first script was for 10 mg once a day which I split into AM/PM doses- that was by teva. My first week I had insomnia and felt wired/high. Then it settled down and I was beginning to relax but still felt "wired". It all changed when after 1 month I had a follow up w/ Doc and asked for 5mg doses, so I wouldn't have to cut them. That manuf was different. What a difference! This 5 mg dose is exactly what I wanted! I am relaxed all the time. No PMS. I fell sedated, but functional- which I like. I do feel a bit "dumb", spacey, and I can find myself staring at something in a dream state at times. Also, I have lost all ability to orgasm, however, I still desire and enjoy sex. I am too relaxed and happy to care about not being to orgasm. I am completely passive about almost all things- I used to be a type A about all things. I take 5mg 2 x/day. I gave my hubby a few pills, if I seem irritable at all (maybe one day at that time of the month), he encourages me to take an extra dose that day to "take the edge off". Those 3 dose days (very few) I am a bit more sedated and quiet than I'd like, but it is for the best. I find I get a boost in effect for a week or so a F 37 3 months

Also, very vivid dreams every morning, sometimes nightmares :( I will continue to take it, this drug has greatly reduced my depression and excessive worry.  5  Anxiety,OCD The first two days of taking Buspar, I had NO anxiety. Nothing has ever worked that good for me before. Unfortunately the third day, I went into a deep depression. The fourth day, I ended up with tingling through my entire body, my left arm went completely numb, severe confusion, vision cloudiness and vision loss, followed by a severe headache. The aftermath ended in tingling and tremors throughout my body and confusion that lasted another 2 days. The doctor told me it was more than likely side effects of Buspar. I loved this medicine until that happened. Great pill but the side effects were awful for me. I'm disappointed I have to quit taking it. F 25 7 days

3  Anxiety, OCD Bloated (water retention) as well as weight gain, but I started at 45mg. I felt a LOT better, and I've tried at least 5 SSRIs and SNRIs, but this worked great. After several weeks I caught myself just bobbing my head a little. I read that you can develop pseudo-parkinsons. After reading this I abruptly stopped treatment. I am back to normal now. Also, I have had sexual problems ever since stopping Prozac 3 years ago. Bu spar helped in this respect too. This is definitely worth a try. Maybe finding the right dose would have worked?  1  OCDchild, then pot,LSD=high anxiety akathisia, tense throughout body, have to bounce legs, clench hands, punch walls. very intense and unpleasant dreams causing insomnia. very disturbing loss of memory. feeling of not being myself. I'm very glad this med works so well for so many people on this site. I can also really empathize with those who have found it awful. Cliché: we all have different biochemisty. Very low doses of 5 mg seem to help somewhat lower my need for xanax, concern about which led me to try buspar. But even 10 mg buspar can trigger the above symptoms. M 63 4 months

3  Generalized Anxiety/Mild OCD EXTREME dizziness/drowsiness the first day of use, electric shock feeling accompanied by twitching/spasming of back and arms This med was AWFUL when I started it! I was so dizzy and drowsy the first time I took it that I fell asleep at the dinner table (at a fine-dining restaurant -- talk about embarrassing!) My doctor then told me to only take it at night before bed and start at 5mg, then go up by 5mg increases as needed. I am now on day 16, up to 15mgs, and last night had these wierd spasms -- one of the most bizarre, uncomfortable feelings ever!! It started about 10 minutes after taking the meds. I was laying in bed and all of a sudden felt this shock wave start in my mid-back, then run up my neck, through my arms to my fingertips. Then my back and arms would spasm. This went on for about 30-45 minutes! I was thrashing all around my bed, aching, twitching, and trying to make it stop. It felt HORRIBLE!! I have a call into my psychiatrist and am hoping he will switch me to something else. I can't take another night of that! I also have to say, this has helped my thought processes some and F 27 16 days

4  PTSD, OCD tendencies, anxiety Electric zaps when moving my eyes. They last about 20 minutes and are bearable. A mildly high feeling for most of the day. Seems to be working well for my anxiety. I look forward to increased improvement. I think the weird side effects might be too much for some people, though. M 26 3 days

5  Anxiety/OCD Tendencies Slight "high" feelings about 30 minutes after taking, which did not bother me. No other side effects to speak of. This drug has changed my life. I went from 5 mg per day up to the max of 60 mg, and I still have no problems taking it. It has helped slow my thoughts so that I do not worry so much. It has also decreased my feelings of anxiety. I love it! F 24 3 months
