I'm not a doctor but I have done a lot of research on this drug and wanted to share. I had my adverse reaction to metronidazole in June 2015. Almost all of my symptoms have resolved, but it's been a long road. I've talked to a lot of people with this, and the most common side effects seem to be psychiatric--anxiety, depression, insomnia, loss of appetite, brain fog, a strange pressure-like sensation in the back of the head, and oddly enough, neck pain. Other people have motor control issues and burning/tingling in the hands/feet (peripheral neuropathy). You're not going crazy--this brain affects the brain, mainly the cerebellum, but other places like the midbrain and basal ganglia as well (just to note, Parkinson's and Huntington's Disease are illness of the basal ganglia). Some people recover very quickly after taking the drug--others take more time. About 65% of patients recover completely, 29% improve and the remaining 6% have permanent cognitive impairment. If you've stopped taking the drug and didn't suffer cognitive impairment while on it, you probably won't at this point. But it's some scary stuff. Every single time I took it, an hour later I would suddenly black out and nobody could wake me up no matter how hard they tried for hours. I was supposed to stick with this medicine for 12 days but ended up taking it for only 10. Symptoms of BV cleared up after 3 days though but obviously wanted to finish the dosage.
