REGLAN  (METOCLOPRAMIDE HYDROCHLORIDE):  This medication is used to treat certain conditions of the stomach and intestines. Metoclopramide is used as a short-term treatment (4 to 12 weeks) for persistent heartburn when the usual medicines do not work well enough. It is used mostly for heartburn that occurs after a meal or during the daytime. Treating persistent heartburn can decrease the damage done by stomach acid to the swallowing tube (esophagus) and help healing. Metoclopramide is also used in diabetic patients who have poor emptying of their stomachs (gastroparesis). Treating gastroparesis can decrease symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and stomach/abdominal fullness. Metoclopramide works by blocking a natural substance (dopamine). It speeds up stomach emptying and movement of the upper intestines. This drug is not recommended for use in children due to an increased risk of serious side effects (such as muscle spasms/uncontrolled muscle movements). Ask the doctor or pharmacist for details.   (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Pregnancy related nausea and vomiting Uncontrollable jaw movement, blurred vision, anxiety, restlessness I went to ER for dehydration due to extreme vomiting due to "morning" (all day) sickness. I was given Reglan with Benadryl and it eased my vomiting. I took 3 doses of 10 mg the following day and began experiencing blurred vision, uncontrollable jaw movements, lock jaw, restlessness, and feelings of anxiety and agitation. F 37 2 days

1  Severe stomach pains, undiagnosed. I took Reglan for 6 months to 1 year. 17 years later, I still vomit / reflux my food that I rechew and swallow constantly-jokingly, I am like a cow that must rechew its food. It's so embarrassing. I eat slowly and have stomach emptying issues which are hard to define. When I first noticed the effects was after I stopped taking it fully, before while on it, I had sever acid reflux. After stopping reglan, I began projectile vomiting food or liquids. It was crazy. Just sitting, vomit. Walking, vomit. Movement, vomit (like a baby spits up). I still clench my teeth, bite my lips and grind my teeth. Now I understand the severe panic episodes while on Reglan were due to this drug. The depression, sadness, anxiety, weight gain, numbness in the pelvis and upper leg areas when taking or readjusting a year later is now evident of the side-effects I had no idea about. This drug has kept me from having a normal life. Please don't take this drug. F 41 12 months

1  Gerd depression, anxiety, insomnia, suicidal thoughts, tardive dyskinesia I was prescribed Reglan while waiting for a new PPI drug to start working for acid reflux. About that time we had a traumatic family event and I became very depressed and attributed it to the stress and grief in my life. However it got worse and worse: depression, suicidal thinking, terrible sadness, insomnia, anxiety, panic and I clenched my teeth constantly (tardive dyskinesia). After 4 months of this it occurred to me that there was something else going on besides family issues and God gave me the insight research this drug which showed a long list of psychotic symptoms. I stopped it immediately and it took a couple of months to start feeling better and 2 full years to completely feel my old self. Even today years later I still clench my teeth when I am tense. My advise is to become fulling acquainted with a prescription's side effects so that you won't be caught unaware. 72 4 months

1  Sent to ER - prescribed reglan Sent to ER after severe stomach pain and abnormal CT scan (intestinal abnormalities). Was prescribed reglan for two weeks after hospital visit. I took it for a week plus twice while I was still recovering the next month. When I took it the first week I had general uneasiness, and extreme anxiety. The last two times I took it I was verging on a panic attack, couldn't sit still, very agitated and anxious. It's now been 4 months since my last reglan, and I have random periods of extreme unease/anxiety/agitation (never experienced this before reglan), as well as minor depression. I am generally a very relaxed person and don't get easily anxious or flustered. Friends and family have noticed. NEVER TAKE THIS DRUG. F 25 7 days

1  Nausea The Doctor prescribed that I take this due to not being able to hold down good or water. Within the two to three week period I began experiencing severe depression, throat tenderness, throat spasms, itching to the point I was bruised all over and extreme anxiety and even vertigo. I called the doctor and she said to stop taking it right away. It's been about two months now and I still have problems with my throat spasms and swallowing. Just want to know if this will ever let up. F 31 3 weeks

1  Migraine Headache This medicine has horrible side effects. I've had blurry vision, suicidal thoughts, irregular heart beats, stiff muscles, nervousness, fever. I thought I was getting a pain medication in the ER but instead I received reglan by iv and the side effects are horrible and they linger. Please do not take this medicine however if you do you will Ativan to calm things down. Although its been three months the side effects from this drug is still lingering and I heard they can last for 10 months or longer. This is a horrible drug and you still get headaches, so this drug is pointless. F 40 1 days

1  Nausea I wasn't able to eat for days because I was pregnant and experiencing a lot of morning sickness. So they gave me Reglan in my IV along with fluids within only a few minutes I couldn't sit still had extreme anxiety and wanted to have a panic attack it was given with Benadryl but I was almost positive it wasn't a Benadryl because this is happened before now I know that I can't take any type of anti nausea medicine through an IV because it does the same thing. I made the ER take the IV out and I had to leave against doctor's permission I couldn't sit there it was horrible, never again. F 29 1 days

1  Pre-op nausea prevention. I was giving Reglan in an IV for pre-op nausea prevention. Moments after it was given to me in the IV I started having a feeling of anxiety burning in my arm and uncontrollable shivering and chills. They had to put multiple blankets on me. Then I was given Versed and knocked out for surgery. In the recovery room I was given Reglan in IV again and the same thing happened with the uncontrolled shivering and extreme cold feeling. Shivering was so bad my whole body was tightening up and shaking. They then gave me Benadryl in the IV and put more blankets on me. I have no idea this medication can do that. I'm also allergic to Compazine. I will never let them put this medication in my body ever again. F 50 1 days

1  Preventative nausea/reflux I was given reglan as a nausea preventative during laproscopic surgery. I woke up feeling horrible and sore. They said I had a dystonic reaction which they fixed with benadryl. Uncontrolled jerky muscle movements. It must have been horrible because my right shoulder/neck and side are killing me. Feels like the muscles are way too tight or something. Can't seem to get it to lessen even after massaging the painful spots. It's only been 2 days. I hope I don't end up with lingering side effects like others have. Not worth it. F 35 1 days

1  Migraine Treated at hospital for migraine. The cocktail of drugs included reglan and caused anxiousness to point I had to walk around in hospital room. This just compounded the migraine since I was unable to relax. This is the second time it's happened to me. I have had multiple treatments for migraines to include reglan but seems I'm now developing a reaction to the drug. I will not be taking it anymore. F 45 1 days
