2  Allergies to grass, pollen, mold I've been taking zyrtec for 15 years and just started the process of weaning off of it about a month ago. I've always struggled with tiredness/fatigue, memory issues, concentration issues, and recurring low mood & depression, but I never knew why and treated myself with coffee all day long. After forgetting my meds one day, I woke up with tons of energy (even a little anxiety) and a lifted mood. Ever since then, I've been working to get off of it. Weaning off is horrible (I started with half a pill for a week, then a fourth, then an eighth, and now a 16th) because if I quit cold turkey I can't bare the itching, rash, and hives. But it's SO worth it. I'm starting to feel like a normal person again, have cut back on coffee, can think more clearly, remember things better, etc. I wish I never started taking this medicine.  1  Allergies Have tried going off of it but intense itching sets in on day 2. Am now slowly weaning myself of it. Also have gained about 10lbs and have changed nothing in my diet/exercise. I am runner--I run 6 miles 4x week. I wish I had been told about the weight gain possibility and how hard it would be to get off the drug. F 52 8 months

1  Allergies EXTREME ITCHING WHILE TRYING TO QUIT. I cannot get off zyrtec due to the extreme itching after not taking it for 2 days. I will have to slowly wean off and I am so nervous for this journey. I imagine if I were to quit Zyrtec I will feel much better than I have in years. I have read countless reviews about the brain fog, forgetfulness, anxiety, and emotional toll it takes on people. I am wondering if my anxiety and bursts of emotion are coming from this and maybe I can even get off my anxiety medication. I am excited to kick this drug, but it is going to be so hard slowly weaning off to not experience the itching. I highly recommend NO ONE EVER TAKE THIS. F 30 15 years

1  Oral Allergy Syndrome I'm a 21 year old female. The worst allergy medicine I've ever taken, next to Levocetirizine. Besides being sedated and anxious, I most recently have been waking up with hives, shortness of breath, swollen eyelids and top lip, itching and burning skin, and panic attacks. I discontinued this medicine after like 3 months of taking it almost daily, I was absolutely miserable. I will never take this crap again. I'm on day 2 of not taking it and I was starting to feel better. I took Claritin today stupidly thinking I'd feel better with it and I do not. I feel like pure sh*t, I'm probably gonna stay off antihistamines for a while, I don't know what to take anymore. why do you cause me such grief you were amazing at first ): F 21 60 days

2  Itching from chigger bites I have taken Zyrtec before, and it has made me very sleepy. However, the last time I took it was Wednesday night for itching related to chigger bites. (I gave Zyrtec two stars because it DID alleviate my itching.) Thursday all day I literally felt like I was having an out of body experience. I felt like I was high/drunk/floating and had a hard time forming and thinking of words. My hands, arms, and legs felt heavy. I kept having to remind myself to take deep breaths because it was like I could not remember to breath reflexively. I fell asleep 3 times during the day which is not like me at all. Even late into the night Thursday, I felt very out of it. I am so thankful I found this forum with people who have experienced similar reactions to Zyrtec. My husband takes it every morning and functions just fine all day. F 37 1 days

4  allergies in my nose Worked very well, until I stopped taking it. Now itching all over (literally head to toe.) Scalp and feet are the worst, but itches are all over the place. Six itchy days and nights and counting. There should be a warning about withdrawals after long term daily use. M 60 1 years

1  Chronic Urticaria Zyrtec alleviated the hives but I began to notice stomach pain, dry eyes, tinnutus, and then when I tried to stop taking it I got vertigo and awful itching and hives- much worse than the original problem I started taking Zyrtec for. My dermatologist said if it was resolving the hives then I could continue. By then I checked withdrawal symptoms online and found so many people struggling to get off this awful drug. The itching is fierce and I woukd get hives several inches across plus swollen lips and bumps of over an inch came up randomly on my forehead or wrist. I did more research and found that Zyrtec supresses Histamine ratger than breaking it down. I had very low DAO enzyme in my body so coukd not vreak the excess histamine down naturally. After weeks of hell once I stopped taking Zyrtec I bought Histame capsules on the internet and within 3 days. had the itching under control. I tackled the root cause of my low DAO with the help of a nutritionist and was able to stop the Histame after a few weeks. I do eat a low histamine diet now which also helps. I would never ever take Zyrtec again Zyrtec shoudnt be available over the counter. It is dangerous and needs to be reviewed. huge no of people have problems stopping it F 69 3 months

1  Puritis Suicidal itching EVERYWHERE!!! SO I’VE FOUND A CURE!!! (Cyproheptadine) Sooooo I have been struggling with puritis since taking cetirizine for steroid withdrawal symptoms, basically went from frying to fire. I had been dealing with my Cetirizine issue for just about a year, forcefully having to take it every 1-2 days. I have tried Loratidine, B12, everything you name it. I spent at least 9 months researching a cure once I realised my body was addicted to Cetirizine, and that the puritis I was experiencing was a withdrawal symptom. I stumbled across Cyproheptadine Hydrocloride by accident, it is basically an anti-histamine like Loratidine & Cetirizine except Cyproheptadine doesn’t have any withdrawal symptoms. Cyproheptadine is specifically designed to treat skin allergic reactions, such as puritis, hives and so. From what it looks like, Cyproheptadine Hydrocloride can only be purchased online not in stores, however it is very very cheap and almost all online pharmacies have it worldwide. I first took Cyproheptadine early March this year (2018), and to my surprise it worked extremely quickly. I stopped itching! I had been withdrawing from Cetirizine for 2 days and was dancing around my bedroom (itching) and decided to take Cyproheptadine instead. I didn’t feel the need to itch again for at least 2 weeks, and by that time it wasn’t a Cetirizine itch, it was a normal itch. I was very skeptical at first so I decided to take another pill of Cyproheptadine the day after, to see if it F 22 1 years

4  allergies Zyrtec can put you into the biggest raging frenzy. you wont be friendly or patient and you wont know its happening either! this is a powerful mind altering drug, you can completely dissociate and not realize how you are acting until you come out of it! there are some GOOD things about zyrtec, it works very well for allgergies and itching, sneezing, swollen eyelids, runny nose but it can also knock you out like nothing else! you will have a incredible unconcious desire to sleep, for 10-14 hours. sometimes after taking zyrtec i lose 2 days! your body will just want to switch off. its my theory that zyrtic is an incredibly potent stimulant that acts on the nervous system that supresses a lot of self control.  1  Seasonal allergies The Zyrtec cleared up my allergies just fine....it was the severe side effects that was horrible! It was not a big deal that I was tired while taking it. What was a big deal was my mood. I felt like I was going crazy. I had no idea it was the Zyrtec. I was totally lost. My anger was out of control, one minute I was yelling and the next minute I was crying. I felt hopeless, and I didn't know why. I decided to stop taking it, and the itching started on my feet and legs. I am so happy to start feeling like myself again. I cannot believe the effect this drug had on my mind. I rarely cry, and found myself totally miserable. This drug should be banned. It is a serious mind altering drug. I am thankful that I was able to realize that this drug was causing my distress. So happy to be me again, even if my nose is running. Dangerously mind altering drug. F 49 10 days

1  Allergies I didn't have side effects until I ran out of Zyrtec for a couple days. I started itching and feeling sick. It was easy to guess that this was the culprit. Then i went online and started reading how toxic this drug is. About day 3 my itching and sneezing was out of this world. I have clawed and scratched my skin off and have hives on my chest and neck. I refuse to give in and take another one. I'll be half dead and miserable or go to the hospital one...but i won't ever take this again. Poison, not to mention makes you retain water and gain weight. Please read up on Zyrtec withdrawals...you'll never take it again, nor will you give it to your children. F 42 2 years

1  seasonal allergies started off great, less itchiness, sneezing, coughing etc. I would have some trouble falling asleep and would wake up a lot at night but nothing terrible. about 3 months in I noticed that it wasn't helping my allergies anymore and was making my anxiety worse. every night for a week straight I wouldn't fall asleep until 4-5am because I would be extremely paranoid and I would even hallucinate. I didn't take Zyrtec last night because I'm so sick of not getting any sleep and don't want to risk developing any other problems and I really hope it goes well. I have a headache and some stomach pain right now and am a bit itchy, but the itching is not severe. F 16 3 months

1  Originally for hives Zyrtek is a toxic, addictive-like drug that should be ripped off of the market!!! I began taking it after a trip to the ER. It came highly recommended for my problems and I was completely allergic to Benadryl. Not only did I go from 112 pounds and pack on 20+ (Different each day due to severe water retention and swelling), but getting off this drug is torturous!!!!! Withdrawal symptoms include; more severe hives, angioedema, burning, all over and traveling itching, central nervous system taxation, chills with burning, need I go on????? This product disgusts me. My life is highly affected by the I'll effects of the fact that Zyrtek wants you to Rely on it in order to live, but you cannot live freely. F 34 1 days

1  Seasonal allergies I stopped taking cetirizine 5 days ago, the first night was horrible, itch all over my body, I took one pill of allegra 180 mg and all the symptoms were one, I kept having 1 pill of allegra for the next 3 days but I want to stop it today, I am itching but not so bad now, I'll see what happen when I stop taking allegra. I guess I can not take any medication at all, every time I take one I get so many symptoms that are way worse than the reason I am taking it. Anxiety, panic attacks, social phobia, and I also lost my hair, I feel like I have aged 10 years since I started this medication. Too bad I did not make the connection before. F 47 1 years

1  Allergies I was taking the All Day Allergy relief from the $ store and it helped with itching, however I was having suicidal thoughts and since reading all these comments I come to realize its the Zyrtec! I even went to a therapist! Then I went on Claritin D and the D is for DEPRESSION!...I am so glad I found this website through WEB MD... I was taking it to sleep at night but couldn't get up in the morning and when I did I was a zombie! My doctor gave me NATURAL D-HIST by Ortho Molecular Products and its also non drowsy...try it...I am on it now and feeling much better...also 1,000 Vitamin C a day can stop the running nose...natural is best.  1  Allergies COUGH, ITCHING, FATIGUE, HEART IRREGULARITIES, DIFFICULTY WITH URINATION........ among others Wouldn't recommend this drug to a squirrel! I went through 2 years of living hell until I decided enough was enough! My PC kept telling me cough isn't a related side effect..........BUBKUS! I had a nagging cronic cough, thought it was heart related but they always tell me cough isn't a heart related issue either..........BUBKUS! We have a significant family heart history and everyone of my blood relatives developed cough from their heart related issue.......makes you wonder about the quality of healthcare today. I used to go to ONE doctor for 40 years that treated everything I ever encountered........in his office 99.9% of the time.......$20 tops!! Today, you need to see 10 doctors, $$$$$$$$Thousands in unnecessary test, and generally they throw in some kind of proceedure, whether you need it or not.............it's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$.......average inquiry for an illness has to be in the hundreds if not thousands!!! I stopped the drug and the cough immediately subsided in a couple days time! I have significant heart issues to which I should never have been placed on this medication in the first place. It was my cardiologist that suggested stop the drug.......it's the best way of knowing and not guessing as he has done in the past with my heart medications when questionable events arose. And then there's the WITHDRAWL from this drug...........if you haven't experienced it yet, you're in for the ride of a lifetime...........weeks if not months of severe itching, to t M 58 2 years
