| 3 | iatrogenic oxycodone addiction | Initially I had tremendous and immediate weight gain, sweat profusely, and lost of touch with reality due to false sense of well being. I became very addicted to methadone. As I tried to withdraw I found my perfect, never had a cavity, teeth have gone relatively bad. I have a mouth full of cavities now. Lots of bone related problems too. Methadone did something insidious to me! | I wish that I had just been titrated of of the drug that I was hooked on, oxycodone. I was desperately addicted to that drug when I found myself at a methadone clinic after some hospitilizations that were too brief to address my 5 year oxycodone addiction. At first I was so relieved not to have to worry about getting oxycodone from various doctors anymore. But, there were strong side effects from methadone right away: sweating profusely, huge weight gain (this has been hard as I have been considered pretty all of my life, it has been extremely humiliating), feeling doped up, constipation...all that. But, I had been so addicted to oxycodone and it was such a relief to be off of the doctor hustling and fear treadmill. It has brought me alot of problems, physically but it did help me out of a horrible time, brought me back into reality quite a bit and I was able to get my life back in order, for the most part. The constipation is the absolute worst for me, there is a post on here stating that "get ready to give birth, so to speak" that is the complete truth!! I also lost alot of weight when I joined my clinic almost 35lbs and was only 110 when I went in, it was pretty scary. I have been there for a little over a year now and I just started gaining my weight back a month or two ago. Some people I talk to there have the opposite problem as I do, but either way you are pretty much going to severely gain or lose. Its not going to be easy but i got off 160mg i was on it just under 3 years. Yes the withdrawal will feel like it is lasting forever but there somethings you can do to make it easier. First taper as low as your clinic will alow you too, dont just stop taking it if your on more than 25mg because that is literally like shooting yourself in the foot. Also drink lots of water, get yourself some melatonin to help you sleep, and something for diarrhea. The methadone clinic is a whole different animal. The clinic I would go to they only had 1 time slot for dosing which was from 5 30 am to 10 30 and thats it you miss that time slot for any reason and you are hit for the day and it goes against you if you are trying to get take home bottles. Also drug testing constantly and they would treat weed like your testing positive for benzo or opiates. The counselors there could give to shit about any that you have to say or any of your needs. In addition if you are getting medical rides through the state, the state cares even less. I went to 25, then down a milligram a week until I was off. I was off for 4 years. IF YOU DETOX OFF: get regular exercise to help your muscle aches, it really helped me. Unfortunately, all it took was a back sprain and 3 Oxycodones, and I was right back in it. You will always be addicted, don't fool yourself ! I've been back on for 2 years and I am at a very low does on 19mg. For me, that is just right - keeps me from wanting opiates, and I can work all day, full time, without falling asleep. | This medication builds up in your system, so what you feel on week 1, will not be what you feel after month 1. You need to be READY TO STOP TAKING OTHER MEDICATIONS !! you cannot and should not be taking this medication with other opiates, that is if you are taking it because of opiate dependency. If you are nodding out at the drop of a hat, you need to DECREASE your dose ! That is also NOT what it is for. This medication is to stop your cravings for more opiates. (unless you are taking it for pain of course) take it seriously, and whatever you do, don't give it to anyone. 30 mg. is enough to KILL someone who has not built up tolerance. If you want ANY ADVICE on this medication, I've been on it for 2 DECADES, and I know a lot about it. feel free to ask.
