Went to emergency room and was dx with facial cellulitis and an abscessed impacted wisdom tooth. I have an exterior abscess on the right side of my jaw with the cellulitis. Was Prescribed Cleocin (Clindamycin HCL) 300 mg 4 times daily. First dose I took with soy yogurt (I'm vegan) and some coconut milk. 30 mins after ingesting the antibiotic, I experienced severe stomach pain, diarrhea, sleepiness, vivid dreams and woke up with a horrible HA and left side eye pain. Feeling chilled to the bone, tremors of my hands, and general malaise. I also woke up to very uncomfortable deep muscle pain in my quadriceps up into the groin region. Made myself some sweet potato minestrone soup last night and reheated some to eat to try to combat some of the nausea. Ended up getting sick. Pushing fluids as much as possible. Metallic taste in mouth which is very unpleasant. I have autoimmune colitis and didn't know that Clindamycin can cause colitis and C-Diff.. I just recovered from a colitis flare up. I know that cellulitis and abscesses are serious diagnosis.. I also have MRSA so my options for ABX are limited. I also have a penicillin allergy. | Would not recommend this to anyone. Calling my primary care physician tomorrow for a follow up appointment to go over other options in terms of treatment. I've already missed over a week of work due to the bronchial pneumonia, and can't work until it's completely treated as I am a CNA in a LTC/Rehabilitation facility and I care for the elderly/immunocompromised. Some create almost identical symptoms to poisoning, as with Clindamycin (Neocin). I took just 4 days’ dosage of this and had to be admitted to Emergency 3 times in a week, and experienced it raging through my intestines, liver, kidneys in an almost identical pattern as was caused by a redback spider bite a few years ago! Each organ it attacked gave symptoms of pain, malfunction, and my liver felt as if it was going to burst. I think this was the liver trying with all its might to rid my body of this drug. DEADLY. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is not a Penicillin, but something entirely evil as far as I have experienced. I had this given to me by a dentist after I specifically told him I wanted only Penicillin as it has always given me safe healing throughout my 69 years of life. He deceptively ‘tried’ this ‘new antibiotic’ (Clindaymycin) and told me nothing. Within 48 hours I was experiencing the worst symptoms I have ever had in my life after taking medication, and lived in fear of it having caused clostridium dif., which is known to have caused death. There are entire websites recording the devastating effects of this “medication”, and giving details of 95% of people having been caused similar agonising symptoms, and even being admitted to ICU with their bodies shutting down to death.
