1  Sinus Infection Severe abdominal pain. I believe the side effects of this drug are more prevalent than the manufacturer would have us believe. I've never met anyone who didn't get severe stomach or abdominal pain from taking this stuff. M 40 3 days

3  Mouth absess Too sick to eat but have to eat to take them. Then expereience severe stomach aches, constant sickness, headaches, muscle aches. First time taken Feb. 04 - they didn't work on a mouth absess, so this time I doubled the dose to 2 tabs. 4 times a day 24 hrs. Had acute anaphylactic shock with a penicillin tablet last year, and was advised this was the only anti-biotic available for me to safely take now. F 54 3 days

1  dental infection After taking 2 gms. over 48 hrs spent 15 hours vomiting with voilent stomach pains. Had to stop them immediately on docs. advice. Feeling much better today 36 hrs. since taking the last dose but now in intestines as had very light coloured stool this morning and a lot of pain in intestines. This is my second attempt in six months with this anti-biotic and although I was bad with it last time, this was unreal - I thought I was going to die. F 54 2 days

4  Dental Infection Turned red at first and now have trouble sleeping. I've only had slight stomach discomfort, just acidy when I didn't eat anything before taking a dose. I chew them because I have trouble swallowing pills and these things are huge. This may have helped them mix with food quicker and cut down on the stomach irritaion. M 38 7 days

2  Scalp acne Its giving me stomach cramps like a mofo. I think the last guy is right in saying the manufacturers will have us believe the side effects are minimal. The guides say 'may cause stomach upset'. First of all its not a MAY, its a WILL and secondly its not UPSET, its YOU'LL FEEL LIKE YOU SWALLOWED 30 SHARP KNIVES. I hope the other guy isn't lying when he said the pains go away after taking them for a few days. M 20 4 days

3  mastitis (infection in breast) Nausea and vomiting; severe stomache pains; loose stools; increased heart rate; inability to sleep at all (day or night) and the need to pace the room, despite being exhausted I have been taking this drug for 2 days in hospital via an IV drip and have now been prescribed tablets for a week, but want to find out if I can take something else because I feel absolutely wired and cannot lie still to rest even though I am exhausted. The infection has responded very quickly to the treatment so I am pleased with that, but the side-effects have been rather awful. F 32 3 days

3  Throat Infection Have had severe stomach cramps and indigestion since starting the course - woken up several times during the night with chest pains and twitching muscles. On day 2 I spent a couple of hours doubled up in pain because I didn't eat enough food with one of these. Still have 3 days of the course left, but there's no way that I'll be taking one of these any later than 7pm from now on. But I want to keep taking them as they seem to be working. M 32 4 days

1  ear infection My son (who is 11 years old) was prescribed this over regular antibiotics like ampicillin as the doctor felt that it was safer just in case the cause of infection was glandular fever...at 11years of age!!?! Anyhow, he was given what I believe to be an adult dose of 250 mg to be taken 4 times a day. He suffered severe abdominal pain, and was vomiting over a period of 8 hours. From the comments I have read, and from others who have taken this drug, the side-effects are much worse than the symptoms in cases of minor infection, and I would not recommend it be prescribed under those circumstances.
