5  Type II First week on .6ml, dizzy one day, diarrhea 2 days, upset stomach 2 days. None of these affect occured at the same time. So, basically I was having some kind of a problem for 5 days in the first week. Endo, put me on Victoza as A1C was 7.3. He prescribed .6 for 1 week, 1.2 for 2 weeks then onto 1.8. I never dialed up to 1.2 as I didn't want to get sick again after the first week. I gradually dialed an extra click past .6 over a 3 week period to avoid some of the problems. I did -- I stop with only 5 clicks past .6 --- bacically it's 1/2 between .6 and 1.2 or .9. This is where I've been. A1C is now 6.4. Lost 10 lbs. the first week, gained back 8. Probably from not eating from being sick. With summer being here I will be more active -- hopefully I'll be able to lose more weight -- this will help to low my A1C. I've been very pleased with Victoza -- except for the cost. The drug has helpped me to control my diabeties. M 62 4 months

5  Type 2 Diabetes Severe nausea and acid re flux like symptoms first 3 week with severe fatigue. But well worth the pain now. Blood sugar before startin Victoza average 300 to 480 with taking 2 types of insulin 3 time a day. Blood sugar after starting Victoza on 06/09/2011 now averages 70 to 140. Awesome. My weight on 06/09/2011 was 325. Now after Victoza my weight is 246 as of 1201702011. I have seen concerns from many on here about thyroid cancer that was seen in lab rats . Please note that the lab rats were given a dosage 10 times greater than the maximum human dose of 1.8. No tyroid cancer was seen in the ape study , and non have been reported by humans as of today. For me the benefits have outweighed the risk ! I will continue Victoza .. Heaven sent for me. M 46 6 months

5  control blood sugars the first day I experienced irregular heartbeat about 4 hours after the dose. This lasted till 5am the next day. I took magnesium and havent had that problem since. Day 3 I ate my "usual" amount for breakfast, and later was nauseated, and later had diarrhea, but when not eating my habitual amount I am fine. Today day 5 had a snack in the morning of cashews, and almonds, and about 45 min. later was shaking from low Blood Sugar. Still taking a low dose of Metaglip (metformin and glipizide) which "kicks" the pancreas to produce all day. Hope to soon get off the glipizide. So far getting used to not wanting to eat as much. very excited about the results so far. minimal side effects! I would recommend to try this drug. for me it has been great so far! M 50 5 days

5  DMT2 severe diarhea and gass for a week, which my dr says was most likely from the crossover from metrformin to the 1.2 does of victoza. glucose elevels immediately stablized. nausea, tenderness and slight headache continued for a while longer after diarhea stopped. now everything is okay, with slight constipation from time to time. really works predictably and well, though the first 2-3 weeks were tough. of course regulating your diet is extremely important, especially re fiber consumption. i'm so happy not to be taking metformin, which really didn't work for me, and also gave me very painful/unpredicatble stomach problems. Patient History
5  15 years diabetic type II The first two weeks of this drug are hard. Start at 0.6 for a week and then go up 1 click a week (no more) to avoid severe symptoms of nausea. Forget about eating. Side effects are much less if a person is active and eats less. This is a very effective and very strong diabetic medicine which is over-prescribed and causes most of the bad side effects because of too high a dose. I was very cautious in adding it, and through raising 1 click a week and checking bs 3 times a day and logging it found that 1.0mg 1x day brought my blood sugar under complete control with 2000mg of metformin which I intend to continue to take for insulin resistance. It allowed me to completely drop the 6mg of Glimeperide and while bringing my a1c from 7.8 to 6.2 after 15 years of being diabetic. I lost 23 lbs, and changed my eating habits to conform with the Victoza and have kept it off. Those who claim they have put it back on do not realize the appetite loss goes away and you have to monitor your food intake closely as well as exercise. This is not a miracle drug which will work for you if you lay on the couch and eat. That will create the side effects. M 64 4 months

5  Type Two Diabetic Constpation is my only side effect. My A1C has drop from 9.6 to 7.3 in the three months I have been on Victoza. The constipation side effect is worth it to me, as long as my A1C countinues to progress in the the right direction. I also take 50 units of Lantus in the morning and 50 units at night now. I use to take 80 units twice a day. I have now changed my diet to more fresh fruits and vegetables and leaner meat (chicken breast and lean ground turkey). Have seen a little bit of a change in my constipation since I changed my diet. Also have increased my water intake. M 40 3 months

5  Diabetes , food cravings This meds has been a life changer for me. Ever since I quit smoking almost 3 years ago I gained about 50 lbs, consistently craved food and developed diabetes (we think it started before I quit smoking). I was extremely hesitant to start taking this along with any other diabetes medications. I hate having to take any medications whatsoever but I am glad I tried this. Since I have started this I eat way less I don’t crave food like I use to. I tried to change my diet before taking this and my sugars kept going up. Since taking this my sugars now have been in normal healthy ranges. I still get those peaks when I splurge but they are not bad. The side effects were not too bad. A little mild stomach discomfort at the beginning but it was tolerable and went away fast. I started off at the lowest does and went up .5 of a dose till I reached the full dose 5 weeks later. I know peoples bodies are different and not everyone handles the same medications the same. Just listen to your body you will know if this is for you or not. I have way worse side effects from the metformin I take then this stuff gave me. M 37 4 months

4  Type 2 diabetes I learned very quickly, I had to adjust to the med. First, take it at night. Secondly, you will have varying degrees of gastrointestinal discomfort. Mine largely passed, as I moved from .6 to 1.2 MG, BUT you have to consume significant amounts of water (very light green and white tea helps, because of the warmth), and while it helps with over eating, you have to do your part too, by listening to your body tell you that you need less, and DIFFERENT food. High fiber and pro-biotic nutrients (live culture yogurt, kefir, etc.), solid ... warm breakfast, good protein and healthy fats for lunch, and lite dinners. Not only does this help reduce the discomfort, also with the weight loss I feel "up" so long as I don't eat heavy foods. But the real life saver was cannabis (legal in Oregon). Pretty much stopped the nausea in its tracks, in very small amounts before bed. My insulin use (Lantus and Humalog) have been reduced by more than half so far, and I am seeing fasting sugars of 79-1 M 65 5 months

4  Lower A1c moderate nausea in first week. Occasional mild upset stomach after 3 weeks. Felt pretty miserable after going to 1.2 mg and doctor said to go back to .6 until I felt better. Now on 1.2 and it is better. Found food unappealing for first few weeks. Some constipation and diarrhea. Side effects manageable after four weeks. Lost weight and have adjusted diet since some food is not appealing anymore, like fried food and pasta. Also cannot eat the same volume of food before feeling full. These are good things. My average BG has dropped considerably. High BG readings are around 110. Have not had another A1c since starting but I am sure it must be lower. I generally feel better, no more highs and lows. After a rough start, I think this could be a good thing. Will have to see when I have more experience. I was not terribly overweight to start with. 5-10 and 170 lbs. I am now 158 lbs. The first few weeks I did not feel like exercising but am now back into my regime and feeling much better. M 67 40 days

4  type 2 Initially nausea but I found if I gave the injection and then ate breakfast within 10 minutes, it was much better. Since then just random bouts of nausea when I go too long without eating. At the end of my second week, I started getting extremely bad diarrhea . It would happen shortly after eating. And usually 2-3 times after a meal. That equals 10 or so bouts a day. So far I'm very happy. It's not an easy drug to get started on. But I stuck with it through the first week and it has been very tolerable the second week. My blood sugars have dropped significantly. Back in to the 90-110 range 2 hours after eating. I am on 2,000 mg of metformin and 5mg of glipizide twice a day. But I suspect that as I continue to lose weight and eat better, those will be able to be eliminated. So far I've lot 10 lbs in two weeks. My appetite is very mild, bordering on not interested in eating. Without even trying, I am eating 1/4 of the amount of food I usually eat in a day. And I'm feel full all day long!!!! It took a week to get my energy back. I realized right away that if I'm eating a small amount of food it is more important to eat nutrient-dense food and my energy has rebounded. My only hurdle now is to figure out how to stop diarrhea. I am going to start with greek yogurt in the mornings and some probiotics as people have suggested here. It is tough to get started but I believe I'm past the worst of the bad symptoms and it's been very tolerable this last week. M 46 2 weeks

4  diabetes type 2 Bad upset stomach from the morning of the 2nd day. On 3rd day seem to be easing up. Blood sugar level was the same on 8mmol/l the 2nd day but dropped to 7.5mmol/l the 3rd day. I guess it is still very early days and got to get over the side effects however hope this will not be a recurring thing as I hate having an upset stomach. I have heard and read great reports from using Victoza including from my doctor and phamacist. Looking forward to the results for reduction in blood glucost level but especially in weight loss. Main aim for weight loss is due to sleep apnea. M 41 2 days
