It's advertised as longer-lasting, stronger and having fewer side effects than Provigil, and after three weeks, I believe it. Provigil in the morning would wear off in the late afternoon or early evening; Nuvigil lasts several hours longer. And the feeling is "smoother" and "cleaner" as I describe it; fewer headaches, less nausea, still some jaw-clenching tension but not as bad. And I seem to feel better the next day - not so much need to take it daily. It comes in 50, 150 and 250 mg doses. I have been taking 150 mg or sometimes just half a pill. The company has raised the price of Provigil and made Nuvigil cheaper - for now: they want everyone to switch to Nuvigil because there will be generics for Provigil in a couple of years. It took a year to get to the ADHD diagnosis for a start, since my initial state was anxiety and depression, but with traditional therapy alongside medication, it became clear that ADHD is the culprit. Nuvigil has been great after three weeks, I had started on Provigil, but after a month of increasingly painful headaches, I had to move off it. I had also tried Vyvance, Ritalin, and Adderall with various problematic side-effects. My physician was skeptical that the nuvigil would be any better given the general reports, but to our mutual surprise, it has worked fine. In the first week, I had one major headache, but a couple of aspirins kicked it, and after that nothing. Also was very easily agitated the first week as well, until I acclimated to the effects. Unfortunately, and to my surprise, Nuvigil affected me much more like traditional stimulants, producing nervousness and a "jump out of my skin" sensation. I quickly started taking only half a dose and had better results, though still not ideal. Lately, I've started quartering the tablets and taking 1/4 as soon as the alarm goes off at 6:00 and another 1/4 around 10:00. The end result is on-par with Provigil, but not identical. NUVIGIL (ARMODAFINIL): Armodafinil reduces extreme sleepiness due to narcolepsy and other sleep disorders, such as periods of stopped breathing during sleep (obstructive sleep apnea). It is also used to help you stay awake during work hours if you have a work schedule that keeps you from having a normal sleep routine (shift work sleep disorder). This medication does not cure these sleep disorders and may not get rid of all your sleepiness. Armodafinil does not take the place of getting enough sleep. It should not be used to treat tiredness or hold off sleep in people who do not have a sleep disorder. It is not known how armodafinil works to keep you awake.
