4 | Bipolar disorder with psychosis | Nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, mild anxiety. | This is the only anti-psychotic I can take without losing my mind! | F | 23 | 4 months 15 1X day | 1/23/2018 | 4 | Schizoaffective Disorder | Fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness, decreased appetite, increased blood pressure. | In my opinion, this medication is better than the other antipsychotics (e.g. Seroquel, Zyprexa,Thorazine, etc.) because it caused the least weight gain or even made me lose weight in my experience. | M | 17 | 2 weeks 10 MG | 5/6/2017 | 4 | schizoeffective disorder | 55 pound weight gain | can get out of bed now. unfortunately it made me big! | F | 36 | 15 months injection 1X M | 3/19/2017 | 4 | Bipolar | At first i would become restless and my legs couldn't stop moving. Now i have no side effects. | I was worried about taking this because of the weight gain. Since i have been on it, i have not gain any weight. This med has been great with keeping my mood stable. Before Abilify i tried lamictal and latuda with little success. I also take 25 mg of Strattera which has helped my anxiety tremendously. Just like everyone says, medication is a trial, i have been trying to find what works best for me. I also recommend you start on the lowest dose possible and go from there; too often docs prescribe the therapeutic dose, but everyone has a different therapeutic dose. | M | 26 | 2 months 2mg 1X day | 11/13/2016 | 4 | Bipolar 1 with psychosis | Fatigue | This medicine saved my life. The side effect of fatigue can be very harsh during the first month or so but I'd recommend this medicine to anyone having problems with psychosis or mania. It helped me feel "normal" again. | F | 20 | 6 months 20 1X day | 5/13/2016 | 4 | Treatment Resistant Depression | Weight gain | I think this drug is good, and actually helps for serious depression. I haven't had any serious episodes while taking it, but it's not a miracle drug. I have gained 20 pounds since starting this medication. I feel like I crave carbohydrates more. The weight gain has really been a struggle for me, but if it keeps the depression to a somewhat tolerable level, then I suppose it's worth it. | F | 39 | 6 months 5 1X day | 3/1/2016 | 4 | take with Pristiq | Extreme tooth decay and breakage to the point of having to get teeth pulled as the break off. I use to have beautiful teeth before I started taking this medication. | F | 52 | 10 years mg 1X day | 1/24/2016 | 4 | For paranoia and depression. | Anxiety doesn't go away. However this medication really helps obsessive compulsive disorder. You have to take other drugs concomitantly with it. | Very good for paranoia and mood but doesn't help anxiety. | M | 1 months 400 mgs | 7/17/2015 | 4 | Depression and Fibromyalgia | Agitated, restless, talkative. | Even with such a small dose I feel better. I have more energy and interest in life. My Fibro seems better too! | F | 65 | 2 weeks 2mg 1X day | 6/16/2015 | 4 | Severe depression | For the first week or so I experienced nausea and dizziness, but that went away. My depression lifted within a few weeks. I could function again! I became much more social, and I was able to focus on my studies. However, I gained 20 pounds within two months. Yikes! After that, the rate of weight gain slowed down to about 2-3 pounds more per month. The weight gain triggered binge/purge cycles, and eventually I stopped taking it because I couldn't deal with the insatiable hunger. After I stopped taking it, I became suicidal again. | The med made me gain weight, but it totally helped my depression!!! That being said, even AFTER I stopped the med, I wasn't able to lose the weight I gained no matter how much I dieted or exercised. It's like my metabolism had completely changed. | F | 20 | 9 months 5 mg | 4/16/2015 | 4 | Depression/Anxiety | After taking Cymbalta 60mg for some time with limited results, my psychiatrist recommended that I add Abilify to the mix. After doing so, I noticed a marked improvement. It was as if I had been lifted out of my funk for the first time in quite some time. I recommend this drug. As far as the weight gain everyone complains about, I have a solution: Do not eat so much. This medication cannot cause you to gain weight per se; consuming more calories can, however. You must monitor what you eat, and you must exercise. Besides, doing so, along with drinking plenty of water will, I believe, mitigate any other unwanted side effects. | M | 47 | 6 months 5mg 1X day | 4/14/2015 | 4 | For 'voices' | None. | I find this drug very helpful :) helps suppress my visual hallucinations. And my 'voices' | F | 29 | 1 years 20 | 3/15/2015 | 4 | Delusional disorder | It made me have anxiety. I put on weight and slept a lot. Felt like my personality was suppressed. | After 20 years of symptoms I had a change of diagnosis and new meds. Now I have been med free for a year. I rarely have paranoid thoughts and they don't escalate to psychosis. The side effects were worth it. | F | 43 | 3 years 15mg 1X day | 2/24/2015 | 4 | Add-on to Effexor. Stubborn depres | I feel a little hyper and slightly impatient/irritable. | After Just 5 days on Abilify, I seemed to have snapped out of a long and very stubborn depression/anixiety disorder. All I can say is "Wow!" and I hope it continues. I feel like my brain suddenly returned to its normal feelings about life and found its energy again, after dragging around for years. I hope not to experience any other symptoms - my dose is pretty low, but it sounds like problems occur as you go up in dosage. | F | 56 | 5 days 2.5 mg 1X day | 2/16/2015 | 4 | Bipolar disorder | Extreme increase in appetite, some dizzyness upon standing. | F | 27 | 1 years 10 | 11/14/2014 | 4 | schizoaffective | Legs are a little bit painful and stiff. Gained 4 pounds. Sleep more | Will wait to my body gets more used to it. No a terrible medication. | M | 40 | 4 days 10 mg 2X day | 10/26/2014 | 4 | OCD and depression | dry mouth, to begin with I felt sick and really tired, but that goes after a while. Weight loss | I took his drug because I have been on 150 mgs of sertraline for OCD and depression and it just didn't work. I have taken risperidone before and it was successful, so wanted to try Abilify as it is the one least likely to put on weight. Felt awful to begin with and that was only on 2.5 mgs, so people that go straight on to 10mgs must feel terrible. In time though the sickness and tiredness has gone and I feel much better. The horrible OCD thoughts are gone or a lot more distant and I feel less depressed. If you take it in addition to an antidepressant I would recommend starting on a low dose, due to the side effects. Even though I have felt more hungry, I have found it easier to lose weight. I take it at night, because the hunger seems worse shortly after taking it, so now I don't notice much change to my appetite. | F | 33 | 10 days 2.5 1X day | 10/10/2014 | 4 | Physcotic illness | Hallucinations no appitite withdrawn in myself . I use to take 5mg of risperidrone which was a wonder drug but I put on over 20lbs so I switched to aripiprazole it's ok but not as good as risperidrone but risperidrone stopped my periods n they haven't returned. | F | 37 | 2 months 15mg | 8/29/2014 | 4 | Depression | Some nervous energy, motivated, confident, more energy, weight gain. | Definitely lifted my depression within a few days and I suddenly became a morning person. | F | 36 | 1 years 5mg 1X day | 7/13/2014 | 4 | bipolar and anxiety | Oculogyric crisis, twitching | I was on Abilify for 4 years and it worked wonderfully. Then I started taking a drug called Domperidone...which seemed to throw the Abilify's side effects into gear. According to my doctor it was basically "the straw that broke the camel's back". Soon after I started the Domperidone the twitching began. Then I kept getting these instances where my eyes wouldn't stop trying to roll back in my head. It's a form of dystonia, as it turns out. Anyway I stopped the Domperidone because it wasn't doing what it was supposed to, and these side effects continued. I finally ended up at a neurologist's office about it and was told that basically I was probably always predisposed to those side effects from Abilify, but it was the other medication combined with it that brought those side effects out. Now I'm back to square one to treat my bipolar, because I am extremely sensitive to psych meds and it makes me very hard to deal with as a patient. | F | 32 | 5 years 10mg 1X day | 6/24/2014 |
