CRESTOR  (ROSUVASTATIN):  Rosuvastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs known as "statins." It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps to prevent strokes and heart attacks. In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking. Talk with your doctor for more details.   FDA Approval Date: 2003-08-12 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  Moderately elevated LDL I have had no side effects at all. I go to my doctor regularly and get my blood work as she orders it. Not one problem. I am a nurse and if I had muscle aches I would take the supplement CoQ10 which sometimes helps but I have not needed to do that. This is effective for lowering my cholesterol, it is completely normal. I am happy that I am not building plaque in my arteries. I am not interested in having a stroke any time soon.  5  FH have been taking crestor for 5 years now. in recent years I have felt very depressed, had terrible anxiety, very dizzy, been irritable with the children and extremely weak. it has felt like my body has aged a year for every morning i get out of bed. the last 2 weeks the body crashed. slept for 4 days and could not take care of work or everyday life. was urgently admitted to a heart clinic who could not find anything wrong with my heart. the days I was in the hospital I did not take my medicine and I felt more and more alert and was eventually sent home. the next morning when i took my medicine at home my body crashed again !! so I realized myself that all this was due to crestor. what in the world is it for poison they stop the patients ?! I have had 5 ruined years with divorce and poor physical and mental condition. now I will try to be without my medicine, and now 1 day later I already feel better in body and mind Deathdrug!!!  5  Elevated LDL None Started with 10mg, which lowered LDL to about 1/3 of recommended. After initial 6 months, lowered dose to 5mg. A 6 month blood test indicated very low LDL, so lowered dose to 2.5mg for the next two years. Tests were still good so I lowered the dose to 1.25mg, which keeps me in desired cholesterol range. Split a 5mg in 4 parts, taken before bed. M 73 10 years

5  cholesterol Take with a meal. Taken at bedtime disrupted my sleep by waking up feeling sick. When the doctor prescribed 10 mg, I started taking 5mg. Next blood test showed great results so I started taking 2.5mg. Still great results but with no side effects from all that extra drug I didn't need. Then I tell the doctor what dose is working for me and we go from there. M 75 10 years

5  High Cholesterol After having muscle problems with other statins, I have been on FIVE MILLIGRAMS of Crestor once per day and have had no problems, and a terrific drop in my LDL and Triglycerides. TRY A LOWER DOSAGE!!!! Crestor is super strong. For lots of us, 5 mg per day is plenty. But most doctors start most people on 10 mg. Chop those pills in half! I believe that would help lots of people who take this avoid side effects. M 59 4 years

5  high cholesterol None I took Pravachol and Zocor before my Dr. started me on Crestor. By far Crestor lowered my cholesterol better than the other medications, and improved my ratio considerably. My HDL is low and therefor it was very important for me to lower my LDL level and with Crestor I achieve my goal numbers. M 66 1.5 years

5  High Cholesterol Some foot and shoulder pain, however I have occasionally suffered these pains before taking this drug and it may be a coincidence. These discomforts only occured for several months and I have had no more problems. It lowered my cholesterol to within normal levels which a strict diet did not do. Have had no other side effects and it has reduced my risk of cardiac infarction which can only be a good thing. I also try to maintain a good diet and exercise daily. F 60 9 months
