A month later, I am finally well enough to drive, walk, eat normally, but not sleep, my psychiatric doctor says it will probably be several more weeks before I'm back to normal. It was awful getting off the stuff, even at a place where they take good care of you and give you things to make you feel better. When I got home I was still in major detox, hallucinating, throwing up, everything including water tasted like cigarette ashes. Let me state for the record that I, like most people suffering from chronic pain, do NOT take opiate-pain-meds to 'feel good' or get high~it's a quality of life issue. The only reason I wanted someting different other then the Oxycodone is the Oxycodone don't last long enough and I have to go 14 to 15 hours with out any medication and I'm always being wakened from my sleep in pain. I really don't think doctors give patiants a high enough does of pain killers so that a patiant can led a more normal life, and thats my problem.... any time I try to do anything I end up in pain for days and I'm pretty much a useless piece of meat..... So this is the seconed time I took Kadian, the first time for a month with no improvement in pain, and I didn't expect much with a lower dose this seconed time. I was given Morphone Sulphate Immediate Release (MSIR) 15mg, 2 tablets 2x a day and that helped with the delayed "kick in" but didn't help with the voids created with the Kadian not lasting 12hrs. While Skelaxin worked best, I had to switch to (2) 10mg Flexiral 2X a day. I still struggle with everyday tasks (20 mins on a riding lawnmower) resulting in a full day sitting in my chair "recovering." I guess I have to decide when enough is enough and seek surgery but until then this is better than it was. I have seen my father go through 3 surgery's, my oldest brother have 1 surgery and the middle brother go through 2 surgery's all with minimal temporary relief only to be worse off after the fact. Prior to this med, I was controlling my pain with lortab 10/500 and then to 10/325 2ea @3-4 times per day for 8+yrs. New doc, so new ideas i guess- & quite costly so why fix what was already working for me? my verdict still out on this med and not sure if my side effects are actually from the cymbalta i'm also on or this kadian or both put together but currently i am feeling worthless and going backwards in my pain management/quality of life. | when it finally kicked in for pain relief, it did work well, so if can get pain back under control (still in trial version at present), it may be ok - i am still concerned taking morphine, and since i can't work right now concerned with cost, but i do like the idea of 1 pill per day as opposed to 6-8, so long as i get no breakthrough pain. The Oxy Contin is addictive and totally disrupted all rational thought. I am now weaning off Kadian&vicodin. I have been rx'd Cymbalta 60mg 1xa day &feel good. Weaning off of Morphine is worse than the depression & pain put together. The Medical community needs to be better educated. It always takes 2 three times per day. Kadian seems to work better than generics. I am getting it from the company program very expensive. It has given me back the ability to be with my horses and that is all I care about anymore. I barely make it and fear I will need an increase. I am back to waking all night locked up in pain. I cannot get it where I live and am now without transportation. My SSDI is over $560.00 per mo and I do not qualify for county transportation. If only I had not gone to college. Doctors need more education. I am in an illegal drug saturated area which makes it more difficult. I must see the doctor monthly or no Rx. What gives? I made $90,000 per year and now may not survive because of it.
