KADIAN  (MORPHINE SULFATE):  This medication is used to help relieve severe ongoing pain (such as due to cancer). Morphine belongs to a class of drugs known as opioid (narcotic) analgesics. It works in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to pain. The higher strengths of this drug (100 milligrams per capsule and higher) should be used only if you have been regularly taking moderate to large amounts of an opioid pain medication. These strengths may cause overdose (even death) if taken by a person who has not been regularly taking opioids. Do not use the sustained-action form of morphine to relieve pain that is mild or that will go away in a few days. This medication is not for occasional ("as needed") use.   FDA Approval Date: 2007-02-27 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  Chronic pain. Very focused mentally, slight high, and does provide pain relief. Eat psyllium daily so have no constipation problems. No negative side effects except for its high price. Was on oxycontin, 40 mg 3x for 18 months. I got too high on the drug and it fuzzed my consciousness. Kadian is far superior in relieving pain, it does not occlude ones consciousness, and provides good pain relief. M 48 12 days

3  severe lower back pain Serious constipation. Taking 90 mg /day Avinza by Ligund for about a year now. The constipation is resolved only by going off the Avinza for 3 days and using products like Correctol in serious quantities. I am desperately trying to find a replacement drug. The difference in pain relief from Oxycontin to Avinza is minimal. Expecially when you include the additional pain caused by constipation on the Avinza. I've had little to no other side affects from either Avinza or Oxycontin. F 48 12 months
