I am a self-employed artist and normally I don't sit down much during the day. The motivation has come back, thank heavens, and my mood improves the longer I am off it. I have been on it twice and the first time it worked great. I lost 90 pounds (in combination with phentermine), then the weight loss leveled off so I quit. Several years later (2022) I tried it again and it didn't do anything so I decided to quit again. While I was on the drug I didn't really notice many side effects except for maybe slight depression, but let me tell you, coming off it is a NIGHTMARE, even if you do it slowly, like I did. Both times I suffered days of tachycardia, irregular heartbeat, emotional lability, night sweats, and more. I even went to the hospital on one occasion for palpitations and suspected dehydration, and I was so dry they couldn't even get any blood out of me after 7 sticks and couldn't get an IV going. | Fortunately, the withdrawals seem to be short-lived and diminished greatly by the 3rd day off the medicine. I experience panic attacks for the first time and I can never go back from them even though I am not on the medication anymore. Severe anxiety, depression to the point that I was almost suicidal, I thought I was going crazy, confusion and more confusion, losing words midsentence, couldn't think of anything to do for work when previously I could write down a whole long list of tasks to get done, brain fog. I must have the worst neurologist on the planet because I specifically told her that I would not take a medication with ANY cognitive side effects. And she said the ONLY Side effect from this rug would be tingling fingers. She downplayed the side effects so much that I didn't even look them up before taking the medication only to think I was going absolutely insane a month later. After a month I looked up the side effects and realized just how extreme they are. I am considering a lawsuit. She gave me these so that I would be able to start running again without having a migraine. But the problem is that this medication takes away my ability to find enjoyment in anything. I haven't even had the desire to go running or even step foot outside because I've been so depressed, my personality is completely gone. The weeks leading up I had increased anxiety, dramatically increased depression, my mood swings became more irrational and erratic than ever. Around the second week I started to hear voices in my head telling me to kill myself. I did not want this. By the end of week 2 the voices were screaming at me to kill myself. The last day, (first day of week 3) I was admitted to the hospital, taken off the drug and after my first hours of drug induced sleep, so roughly 12 hours later, my symptoms dissipated by 75% then without taking the medicine for 24 hours disappeared completely. TOPAMAX (TOPIRAMATE): Topiramate is used alone or with other medications to prevent and control seizures (epilepsy). This medication is also used to prevent migraine headaches and decrease how often you get them. Topiramate will not treat a migraine headache once it occurs. If you get a migraine headache, treat it as directed by your doctor (such as by taking pain medication, lying down in a dark room). Topiramate is known as an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic drug.
