| 5 | year-round allergies | Does give me a "wake-up" similar to coffee, but not anxiety or jittery | I have taken Claritin and Claritin-D (12 & 24) for 15 years with no problems and great relief of allergy symptoms (itchy eyes & throat, sinus congestion, sneezing). I got allergy shots for 5 years, but still needed claritin in addition to the shots. The effectiveness wanes occasionally and I have tried allegra, zyrtec, and others with no significant relief of symptoms. All meds work differently for all people and the side effects vary widely from person to person. I would try other decongestants and/or antihistamines, hot showers or baths, ice packs, whatever. The medicine has been an absolute miracle for me, and I have not had ANY adverse side effects. I have taken it nearly as long as it has been available - 9 or 10 years - and have had NONE of the problems some others have listed. I take a 12-hour tablet before bed, sleep very peacefully for 7 to 9 hours, and wake alert with clear sinuses, ready for a very busy day. Although I have tried the 24 hour, I have found that personally I don't need it.
