I'm taking the off-brand - "nitrofuran monohyd macro", and while I always take generic brands with no complaints, maybe this drug is different. In the past 2 years, every pharmacy in town no longer carries the brand name Macrobid so substitutes the generic AND medical insurance companies no longer will pay for the brand name. Pharmacies have to order it special and it takes 24 hours to fill the prescription. I do not know the reason why the brand name medication is so hard to get. I recommend asking your doctor to fill the prescription for the BRAND NAME and noting on it that it is medically necessary NOT to use the generic. I do however, applaud the antibiotics for its healing of my UTI. I hope it does not relapse.
