I had apparently forgotten what it was like to be very anxious and depressed. The fact is, Paxil just works for some people. SSRIs can be life savers and they are for me. It is a miracle worker as far as anxiety. However, I gained ten pounds on it and no matter how hard I tried, I could not lose it. It's been three years since I've been off and guess what? I still have occasional brain zaps which I NEVER exeprienced prior to Paxil. I am giving this drug a 4, despite the weight gain and horrific withdrawal because it is so effective. If you plan on being on it for a long time and have no intention of getting off of it, it's a great drug. I have always been a size 7 or 9 through having eight babies even. With paxil I am now maybe an 11. maybe more, I mostly stay home in scrubs. I have been very down due to the weight gain. I started slowly weaning about 8 months ago. This stuff don't want to let you go. After going off the drug--several weeks of extreme dizziness, brain shocks, flashing lights, confusion. | Initially, the medication felt great and life could not have been better. After about 10 days, I stepped up the dose (from 10 to 20 mg/day), and experienced the most horrendous, extreme panic attack of all time. (I had never had a panic attack prior to taking the Paxil---and for those of you who have never experienced a panic attack--it is the worst living hell that a person can experience). I stopped taking the drug immediately--and went into a state of pure panic disorder for several weeks. It took me months to recover. I called my Dr. after the hellish experience was over probably around 7 hours and she said give it a few weeks???
