5  Late night insomnia Over the course of 15 years I've had little or no noticeable adverse effects from taking Zolpidem. HOWEVER, twice I've received an RX manufactured by Torrent Pharma and have noticed a substantial difference. I have to take more in order to get the same effect, I don't feel as refreshed, I seem to dream more and that keeps me in a restless state. All in all, not an acceptable product from this manufacturer. M 71 15 years

5  Night sweats during menopause=zero Blurry vision after the drug begins to take effect. About 5-10 minutes after taking the drug on an empty stomach, I get into bed with a good book. when I can no longer read the words, its time to turn out the light. This drug is a lifesaver for me. I cannot function without sleep, and Ambien gives me a good 7-9 hours of solid, nightmare-free sleep. I wake up refreshed. Seldom remember dreams, but when I do,, they might be bizarre as dreams sometimes are,not frightening. F 70 15 years

3  Chronic insomnia, 60 years Have amnesia about what I do at night after I take it. So far I have not left the house or tried to drive the car but I do see things that I have done after I got up and I have no recollection of having done them. Not too bad, all things considered. I can usually sleep with it but I'm usually always up during the night going into the hot tub, getting something to eat, or the like. I wish I didn't have to take it especially with the amnesia. I try each night to sleep without one but never make it. You do get more used to it and have to take more of it than is prescribed. I tried Lunesta and that wasn't bad but not as effective. I tried Rozerem and that was horrible. It kept me awake all night like it was a benzedrene. Have tried all the others: Melatonin, Valerian Root and two or three more that I can't remember now. Have avoided all the things that are supposed to cause it. Have done all the things that are supposed to help you sleep. Have read all the books & techniques. So, like it or not, I'll have to try to keep using it until something better comes along or my condition improves for some reas15on. Thanks for sites like this where we can help each other.  2  Mind racing Memory loss, lethargic midday, night eating, driving, sexual activity I desperately want off ambien! I started taking it after I gave birth to my son. My adrenaline was so spiked that I didn't sleep for 72hours when coming home from the hosptial. I was 26 and now 41. Never gone without it. My memory loss started several years ago to the point I blank on my words mid sentence. Ive blacked out and had a threesome with my husband after a night of drinking. Felt so much shame (divorced now but I look back and think about my ex husband, who is a Dr, knowing the side effects while drinking and allowing that to happen) About 4yrs into taking ambien, I drove to a 24hr grocery store and purchased milk. When I left my driveway, I backed into my neighbors sons car that was parked on the street. When arriving home, there was a knock on my door from the police. Thank god I wasn't arrested. Apparently, I played it off. None of this occurred to me until I found the receipt for the milk the following day and everything that occurred started coming back to me. (Memory). I'm addicted to this medicine and want more than anything to get off! My attempts to stop are unsuccessful as I will lay in bed until 3am, doze in and out a few minutes until my alarm goes off at 7am. I'm now at a place where I have no memory at night, even before I take it. It's like my brain is wired to shut off when the sun goes down. I'm only 41 and I donā̈́ F 41 15 years

I never had issues with ambien driving, cooking dinners, etc. It always helped me sleep. I got to the point I could not sleep w/o it. Only recently researching depression did I discover the link between ambien and depression M 61 15 years

5  SLEEP April 23, 2007 -- The FDA today approved the first generic versions of Ambien (zolpidem tartrate) immediate-release tablets. Zolpidem tartrate tablets in formulations of 5 milligrams and 10 milligrams are made by multiple generic drug companies in the U.S. For people that need CHEAP DRUGS ask for Ambien Generic (zolpidem tartrate) I find this drug is more effective then Ambien CR and its cheapier F 34 14 years

4  insomnia Knock-out fatigued after about 12 years of taking Ambien. So dead tired, it started to greatly affect how I was living my life. Quit sleeping after my Mother died, 15 yrs. ago. Doctored for about 2 years now trying to find out what was wrong w/me, that I just couldn't function anymore after about 2 p.m. All blood tests would come back normal, so no answer could be offered. Then just recently I read an article about Ambien, saying it was very dangerous, like smoking, which I gave up 40 years ago, and that it could cause great fatigue during the day. That was it. I am now going to an acupuncturist to help me start sleeping normally, and it seems to be working for me. I originally started out taking 1/4 of a 10 mg. to just get me to sleep, and if I woke up in the middle of the night, I would take another 1/4, so I never had any of the weird things going on. But I was now up to 1/2 of a 10 mg., and not knowing where it would stop. The first 2 nights off, even from that small of a mg., was hell. Just to lay there awake all night, and feel like a zombie all the next day. And I was so addicted to it right from the start, that I hope I will never have to take it again. That was when I started w/acupuncture. F 67 14 years

4  to sleep Fuzzy thinking. Somewhat dizzy. Memory loss. Late afternoon exhaustion. I have not slept over 6 hours a night for over 46 years. I went into a sleep study at Stanford Hospital in 1998. The doctor put me on Ambine and said to only take it when I was having "one of those nights". Well, they are all one of those nights. The best sleep I get is to take 5mg when I go to bed and the other 5mg 2 to 4 hours later when I wake up again. I know I shouldn't be taking this stuff, but my sleep doctor now said it is better to take it because not sleeping would kill my brain cells. I'm not sure I have any left to kill! Doctors have put me on other types of pills, but none work as well as Ambien (Zolipdem). F 72 13 years

1  Insomnia Initially Worked well but Tolerance built over years - hell to come off Please be very careful before using this Z-drug. I started taking it years ago (1999) and thought I had found the elixer of sleep. Gradually I built a tolerance to the prescribed dosage. I need to sleep as I am a single working mother of 3 and always thought I would get round to getting off it when My youngest had finnished school. Anyway in July 2011 I faced a terrible life crises and decided to go to a rehab to get off it. I went 21nights on zero sleep and suffered w/ds as bad as c/t Benz. Fearing I would have a seizure on there premises or even die I was transferred to a psychiatric hospital for a further 3weeks. I am back on Ambien and am tapering it down at 1mg a month. Down to 14mg. F 51 13 years

5  could not sleep and have nerve dama No bad side effects. In fact this med takes all the burning and nerve damage pain away. I had surgery on both feet which made the pain worse. Tis pill stops all the pain. My doctor is currently looking for a similar drug that I can take during the day to help with my pain. I take lyrica and pain meds which I don't really need if I had something like this during the day. Ambien could help many people with nerve damage. I have never had any side effects that you guys have written but I don't read the side effects my family does because a lot of people who read them start having symptoms and I know for me it's been a life saver. I can sleep and have no pain in my feet and if I didn't get that relief who knows where I would be. I just wish I could take this during g the day. I would love a study to be done on me I bet it could help so many with nerve damage. F 39 12 years

3  Insomnia Drowsiness during the day. I have difficulty falling asleep. Ambien has worked well for me for 12 years and I expect it would continue to do so. (Admittedly, there are times when a glass of wine helps.) But recently I stopped the drug for 6 weeks and, while I barely slept, I was much more alert during the day. When I resumed Ambien the drowsiness recurred. I've been complaining to my doctor for years about being tired all the time. Now I know why. I have signed up for a sleep study and in the meantime hope to find another sleep aid. Over-the-counter and herbal meds have never worked for me. F 58 12 years
