5	high blood pressure	Been on Altace for well over 10 yrs. In the beginning I experienced cough and ticklish throat but just worked through it with throat drops. Also felt light headed but changed to taking it in the evening before bed helped get beyond this too.		F	48	10 years		1/3/2010
5	High BP	First few weeks I did notice to be tired but that eventually went away. Have not noticed any other side effects.	For me 5 mg altace taken at night, has really helped me. I do agree with the following person about doctors being to lazy to find the underlying reason for high BP! I do smoke 1 pack a day so the doctor assumes this is the problem with no other testings. I am sure this is not helping my high BP but for being a constrution worker and in good shape I beleive there is another reason. My BP was at average 151 over 91. 5	Congestive heart failure	Persistent throat itch. Which produced annoying cough. When mentioned this to my cardiologist ( Dr h.t.k.) he said I should take it at bed time. Family Dr ( Dr k.r. ) said itch was due to my sleeping with open mouth, which caused dryness and suggested water sprays or gargles.	I am taking the white and red capsule ( 2.5 mg ) Cough started after 3 months of taking the capsules. I fixed the cough problem by splitting the dose: At bed time, I separate the capsule and empty in my mouth the white portion of the capsule. Close the capsule and in the morning I swallow the rest. 2	Elevated BP	Insomnia, muscular pain, easily fatiqued, and short term memory loss (worst symptom)	Have been on this for over 4 months after having tried a few others with worst symptoms. All BP meds are band aids for underlying conditions that MDs are too lazy or time constricted to investigate. I was always very active and healthy, non-smoker, limited alcohol consumption. Feeling much worse since being on this medication. Going to jump back into aerobics for cardio benefits, and will try alternative therapies and naturopaths! Advise others with debilitating symptoms to do same. FYI, one MD admitted (when asked) that acupuncture does work for some patients - something I learned from RN friend. Research for yourself. 1	Diabetes	dry throat, persistent cough, wakes me at night, drank lots of water at night	Dr did tell me that Altace (Ramipril) could give me constant dry throat and cough but he said after age of 50 it is preventive if you have diabetes. As my diabetes is under control with diabetes medication, I am planning to stop Altace immediately as I don't want to compromise my quality of life with constant dry throat and cough. 2	High Blood Pressure	Lightheaded, nausea, diarrhea, slowed heartbeat, headache, dry mouth and throat, increased frequency of dry eyes, frequent urination, cough.	I was started on 5 mg, which may have been too much to start with. Also was taking Tiazac 120 mg at the time. I'm disappointed that this drug caused me so many problems. 3	High BP at 145, 95	The medicine has given me all the side effects that are listed. From tingle in fingers and feet, arm ache, chest pain are the most common ones. The above has sent me to ER a couple times. Started with Altace and had tingle and leg ache. Went away after like 2/3 months. When it seemed the medicine was working started having chest pain and arm aches. BP still fluctuates between 125,85 and 140,92. 3	Altace 5 mg	Started Altace on Monday. Was on Diovan for 3 wks prior very bad side effects. So far, slight chest heaviness, sides ache, waking up middle of the night 1 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm. Vivid dreams. When sitting have strange chest pains. Out of breath, dizziness when I finally settle down. These side effects are a lot easier to handle than when I was on Diovan. Not sure if chest pains are left over from Diovan. Going to see the Dr. on Friday. This is my 2nd BP med since diagnosed 4 weeks ago. My Huband has been on BP meds for past 5 yrs. No side effects. 3	Hypertension	Occasional cough, occasional headache, drooling? It's sorta embarrassing and I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced it this side-effect. It's not a lot just a sense of wetness at the corner of my mouth.	Was dx'ed 3 years ago as prehypertensive, probably due to this extra 40 I am carrying around. 2	high blood pressure	Slight cough, choking episodes, severe migraine headaches.	I have taken this drug happily for about 10 years. In the first few years it was great ans worked well but then I don't know if my system changed or if the drug changed but I became intolerant. It ended by taking my pill in the am and by lunch time I was in bed with a migraine. I will see what kind of symptoms may go away now having stopped the pill. 3	BP medication	After 3 years of using Altace 5mg dozes, I started to get headaches and a dry cough, very severe at night, wakes me up 2 to 3 times, get tired at work. Saw my GP thinking I had the flu or a cold, she immediatly knew that it was Altace related. I stopped taking Altace for past 10 days, dry cough and a scatchy througt is still a problem, hopefully these sumptoms will go away after a month of so. Have contacted my cardiologist 3 days ago, his secretary has not returned my call yet....I think I'll look for a new DR. or get her fired :).	Need to seek alternative meds for BP. It is not kidney sparing as we read or are told - www.the doctorslounge.com - causes kidney failure eating a heart healthy diet which elevates potassium. Learn how to eat for blood pressure and weight control - maybe think about the benefits of a more "raw food diet" - fresh unprocessed foods are how we should be eating and forget the fast and processed food as one of many solutions to control blood pressure and blood glucose levels which can both lead to blindness. 3	hypertension	very soon after starting on it, had dry, itchy throat which caused me to cough a lot. I have it every day now, always wake up a few times at night to drink water to try to sooth it. Am getting tired as I do not get a good nights sleep. My BP is regulated well on it though.	If it wasn't for this dry itchy throat (and cough related to that), I would stay on this med as it really keeps my BP down. 4	High Blood Pressure	Further update to my last post on 9/17/2008. I decided to stick with the Tritace. The fatigue has largely gone (they say that this is common when you first start any high blood pressure medication). I was going to try Norvasc, but heard too many bad reports about legs swelling etc. Going to see if the libido improves now that the fatigue is gone. Sticking with Tritace for now. BP seems to be under control on just 2.5 mg.	If you dont have a bad cough then stick with this drug as the fatigue will improve over time. The doc can always start you on a smaller dose and slowly work your way up. I am on 2.5 mg but might have been better for me to start on the 1.25 mg in the first couple of months. 3	High Blood Pressure	Dosage 2.5 mg commenced to treat high blood pressure. In the first month noticed the following: occasional cough (but not enough to stop the drug), very dry throat on a couple days, reduced libido, considerable fatigue - couldn't seem to keep my eyes open past 9-10pm when ordinarily I required very little sleep. Due to the tiredness, results in snoring on occasion. After a little time, things seemed to settle down - I no longer had the cough, didnt experience a dry throat, my body adapted to the fatigue and I can now keep awake past 9pm :) Next steps: am going to try a new drug as the libido has only improved slightly. Was going to consider halving the dose but Doc has suggested that I try NORVASC for a few weeks to see how this goes (fingers crossed). 1	High Blood Pressure	Severe arm, leg, shoulder back pain. Burning feeling in arms & legs - also creepy crawly feelings in toes - pain so bad couldn't work.	Started on Diovan started getting stabbing pains in foot & leg - Dr. switched me to Avapro - pains and aches got worse felt like I was dying - then switch to Altace woke up one morning with severe hip pain - felt like appendicitis - almost passed out now on vitamins no caffeine & salt see if I can get my pressure down naturally - hope side effects go away soon. 3	cardiomyopathy	none as yet that outweighs the benefits.slightly cautious rating as it's early days. slight cough at nights. experiencing pains in muscle/tendon/joint in right arm - not certain if this is the drug/s(or a pre-existing problem with left arm may have created a compensatory problem in right arm- still investigating this with my GP. interested if others experiencing similar.)	5mg/day plus a beta blocker and two diuretics. 3	High BP	I took Altace for 4 years and in the beginning had no side effects, until May 1, 2008. Had excessive Tongue swelling followed by foot Swelling, and followed by massive face swelling all at 10mg.	3 Doctors all said that over time your body can reject the meds and to still be aware of the side effects. 2	M.I. AGE 27 / LOW EF	I would first get a slight headache if I were to forget to take this med. Then about a year ago I started to get a slight twitch around my left eye and it just got worse. I went to a neurologist, my medical doctor neither could figure it out. I noticed it got really bad about an hour after taking my heart medications. I stopped one while taking the others and I noticed when I stopped the Altace the muscle cramps and twitching went away.	I have to go to my Cardiologist to let them know what the symptoms I had been experiencing with this medication. 1	HB, AORTA VALVE RE PLACEMENT	dry mouth, tickle in throat which caused me to cough and i was a smoker for many years never had this promblem but the worst is the numbness in the hands and the pains in the legs, there was times i couldnt walk. that was 13 yrs ago---	since then i have been on coreg, cozarr, toporal (the worst), benicar just as bad and there is a new one out (beta blocker) called bystolic came out in jan.08 which is not supposed to have to many sid effects-was on it for about 3 weeks my legs felt great not to much pain but what it did to my head wasnt worth taking, the doctor put me back on coreg cr, the legs hurt again, most of these pills had bad side effect on sinus am just gettin better from a bad sinus infection-i tell my doctor of these side effects, and he tells me i probably have a pinched nerve in my back as for the numbess in my hands sent me to a neurologist said i have carpol tunnel in hands which i do but numbess in hands 13 yrs? 4	BP	A dry cough that started about 5 weeks ago, and has continued day and night since then. BP was lowered for 1.5 years. I had no adverse symptoms until cough recently developed.	Initially I thought the cough was due to cold and flu, but it wasn't productive. When headaches started and raw throat developed from chronic cough, I went back to my MD. 4	chronic high blood pressure	only at first - constant extreme dizziness, felt like I might just slide off the chair,(DO NOT TAKE ALTACE w/a diuretic) now only lightheadedness, slight but daily. I drink too much coffee to offset the brain fog. Fingers occasionally become numb/green-grayish and hurt, especially in cold weather-circulation problem maybe. BP was around 185/50, now always very near 120/80. Most slight changes were managed by just keeping busy and not worrying about the minor discomforts. Once I ran out of Altace and BP shot up and I felt extremely anxious/tense and very tightly wrapped-it was awful-never again.	New Doctor/Cardiologist says keep it up - 10 mg per day. Also just started taking 5 mg Crestor and baby aspirin. I would recommend Altace. Only side effects I feel now after 10 years is a slight brain fog and occasional sore-numb fingers. 5	HBP--10mg daily	Maybe excessive urination, including once every middle of night.	BP hovers around 110/70. I feel it works. Leg muscles usually sore, but I also run and lift weights (including squats and lunges). During rest period due to recent knee injury, I felt no muscle pain. 2	BP	Fatigue, weight gain,prolonged headaches, joint and muscle pain, increased bacl issues. Some sexual dysfunction but I am also on an SSRI which would also cause this. Snoring at night due to very dry throat and this wakes me up 4 or more times a night. Can't make it through the day because of tiredness. Experienced a period of high anxiety and was placed on an SSRI and of course this led to even more side effects such as decreased sexual function and libido. As one writer said, the joy almost went out of life. I need to review my lifestyle and get of the meds.	Now taking up to 40mg per day and BP is really not much improved. I have been steadily suffering ongoing and increasing major fatigue which has impacted my social and professional life very badly. Motivation levels for all things pleasure almost gone. Just too tired to get up and go. I started to search the www and found this page. Wow, could this med be part of the problem? My wife is also on same meds and she is so tired she spends 15 hours a day in bed, gained 30lb and has worsened menopause symptoms. She has dry cough all night and major joint and muscel problems. So, OK, it could be old age (57 for both of us) but why don;t the Dr's tell us about these issues when they prescribe this stuff. Perhaps the free golf trips they get, makes them overlook these facts. I also believe it should be everyones business to be their own doctors and to own their own health problems. 2	Blood Pressue	Bad cough day and night, headaces, did not lower BP in one month. Took 2.5MG first two weeks, then 10MG for two weeks. Went back to MD because I thought I had Viral Pnumonia. He knew what was wrong before he even checked me.	Symptoms got worse after my MD pulled me off them. Said cough would be gone in two or three weeks. Its been 4 days and everything is the same. 3	high blood pressure	I took altace for about 6 years. it started to become ineffective. My pressure was up to 190/90. Increasing the dose did not seem to help. Also I started having severe pain in my hips. I was doing about 12 mi per week on a treadmill and had to stop. When I quit Altace the hip pain was reduced by about 50% in a matter of days, and in about a month was gone altogether. Also experienced ed. 1	mitral valve regurgitation	Dr. put me on 5 mg/d altace even though bp was only averaging 124/74. After 12 weeks bp has not changed but have leg crampos and water retention plus swelling of feet/ankles. Discussed with Dr. who advised me to stop altace and see if symptoms go away. If bp does nor go up, I should stay off of altace. 2	High blood pressure due to stress	I am 59 and play in a classic rock band doing lead vocals and guitar. Within days of beginning Altace I began coughing so much it effected my performance. I have some better days and some so bad I can barely finish a rehearsal. I am presently looking into alternative methods. My throat will just begin an awful tickling sensation that throws me into uncontrollable coughing fits. I hate this stuff! 1	Blood Pressure	Where do I start. First, it was nausea. Not to the point of vomiting but uncomfortable enough to keep me from going anywhere. Also, right after I started taking it I became very depressed. I mean scary depressed, to the point where I felt like killing myself. Then came the cough. It started with a constant tickling of the throat, like I was starting to get a cold. Then, almost suddenly, I started getting the infamous dry hacking cough. By this time I had been taking it for a couple of months. A couple of mornings my throat would be so closed up that I would have the dry heaves. Terrible. 2	Blood Pressure	1 Year Trial == Constant Cough with eye tears. Some coughs so violent ro be embarissing (gaging). Give me a break ! Side efects need to be emphisied as likely for some. 5	High Blood Pressure	I had a small cough and lost 10 lbs while on Altace for 1 month (didn't change my fairly good eating habits at all). I had lots of enery in the a.m. right throughout the day. A bit of dizziness at first that went away after 2 weeks.	I stupidly told my Dr about the cough and he immediately put me on Coversyl, then 3 other meds until I got to Diovan 160 which was the absolute worst med ever - stomach problems, dizziness, nausea, hair thinning and weight gain (gained back the 10 lbs). Couldn't tolerate the stomach problems so Dr. has put me back on Altace - I won't complain about the small cough now that I've had the way worse side effects on Diovan.	F	40	30 days		8/1/2007
1	high blood pressure	on third day (5mg) had flare up of eczema rash. discontinued Ramipril on day 7. Rash was on forearms back of hands low back. inner thighs, in my ears, calves and top of feet. day 6 I lost a lot of skin from my feet. I am now at 6 weeks from stopping and till losing skin from left foot, and itchy low back and ears. 1	high blood pressure	cough, anxiety, fatigue, depression, dizziness, gas, bloating, swollen ankles, chest pains, high blood sugar, rash, inability to sleep through the night	This stuff is poison and didn't even consistently keep my blood pressure down. Tried it repeatedly at lower and lower doses but finally did better, blood pressure around 145/80, on nothing but B-complex vitamins, calcium and magnesium, and Vitamin C plus breathing techniques. Watch out for White Coat Syndrome which may be one of the main causes of your elevated pressure, especially after the doctors start torturing you with blood pressure medications. The stats on success of these drugs in the general population that I have seen are very bad--about 75% of the people taking them don't reach their target goals.	F	52	30 days		7/22/2007

3	cardiomyopathy - 45% efficiency	I take 5 mg Altace daily, but no other drugs except Advil or aspirin several pills per week. Resting heart rate is in the low 50's, about 120/80. I do not have hypertension. Fatigue seems to be the worst side effect for me. Cramps in feet and calf muscles, usually while laying down or bike riding. Cramps in abdominal muscles. Fatigue and lack of energy in general, but worst in the evening, made worse by relaxing on couch right after work - very hard to summon the desire to get up - but if I get up and get strenuous exercise for an hour or more I feel MUCH BETTER for the rest of the evening and the next day (note: I have always been a physically active person - a sedentary type person might not get this benefit). However, I can't seem to maintain the same intensity of workout than before taking Altace - this is due in large part to my Cardiomyopathy, but I feel it is worsened by the Altace. Often get light-headed when bending over at the waist. Bouts with diarhea for several wee	I get 4 or 5 hours of fairly strenuous exercise per week, in blocks of 1- to 2-hour workouts, which I have found to improve my tolerance of Altace by staving off the fatigue (the worst side effect for me). Light to moderate exercise offers no benefit and is a waste of time for me. Overall, the side effects of Altace are annoying, but not to bad at this point for me and are worth bearing if Altace will really prevent my condition from worsening.	M	42	2 years		6/30/2007

1	Hypertension.	Anxiety attacks within 30 minutes of taking this medicine. Anxiety so bad I had to leave work and could not stop crying.	Dr. lied to me. Said it had NO side effects. He knew I couldn't take ACE inhibitors because of constant cough when I had taken a different medicine. He said this one is good for you. 2	high blood pressure	Tickling cough to the point of gagging, lethargic, depressed, anxious, increased appetite.	I didn't realize this cough was a side effect, for some reason I never looked up side effects on this drug. 1	High Blood Preasure	Had an awful cough. Didn't keep my bp as low as it is now.	I had a constant cough. I though that I was coming down with a lung disease. I moved got a new doctor and the first thing he did was change my meds. He put me on Avapro. Checked my bp today just because and thought that it was to low. 3	Diabetes, Heart/Kidney protection	Not sure. After about 5 weeks of taking it (2.5mg) I got a sore throat which turned into a cold then fever. Fever went away after 24 hours but the sore throat stayed. Then I got a cough. Worse at night and kept me up for a few days. Spoke to a pharmacist as I was out of the country who immediately asked if I was taking an ACE inhibitor then suggested that it was a probable cause. Stopped taking it for 3 days and the sore throat, cold and cough went. Started taking it again and the sore throat and cough returned within 24 hours. Stopped taking it for 10 days and only cough maybe 3 or 4 times a day. Talking to the doctor about it today.	Not sure if it did any good as my blood pressure was OK to start with although the HOPE study seems to suggest that Altace is good for protecting organs in diabetics.	M	27	5 weeks		6/5/2007

4	high blood pressure	Dizziness during the first 2 weeks. After that, for 3 months I got dizzy if I bent over or bent down to tie my shoe. I started at 10mg per day but after 6 months, moved up to 20mg to get the blood pressure into the doctor preferred range. I seemed to eliminate these side effects in time. Although I seem slower to heal sore muscles, don't know if its Altace or just getting older.	I am 59 and have been having some issues with decreased sexual drive and performance. I could get an erection, but the closer I got to orgasm, the softer I became. On some occassions, I could not climax at all. Then one weekend I forgot to take Altace, and after 2 days I performed normally again. That's when I suspected Altace as the problem, and Ask the Patient posters helped confirm it in my mind. 4	high blood pressure	occasional lightheadedness, especially after bending over at the waist--not sure if this (side)effect is altace related. Lost sense of urgency about getting "things" done; lost persistent perspiration of armpits and groin area for no apparent reason other than high blood pressure; perhaps a loss of sustained focus on anything for any lengthy period of time; lost desire to eat just to feel good (might have had these effects with another bp med too--I dont know)	Lost approx. 15 lbs.(from 235 to 220)--no longer "need" to eat to feel good. Altace works for me--so far. Take 10mg in am and 10mg in pm (approx. 12 hours apart). Dropped my bp from around 170/100 to 130s/80. Dr. started me with 2.5, then 5 and then 10mg altace, then added coreg, the latter horrible for me; dropped coreg real quick and increased altace and I'm okay now. From looks of other comments here, one has to find what works for them as an individual. Over the long haul, one hopes the med doesn't attack the function of a vital, internal organ--the danger with most of these "miracle" drugs, in my worthless opinion.	M	63	9 months		5/25/2007
3	Diabete/ HP	Dry nagging cough, woke me at night. Ringing in the ears. Hives, muscle cramping, lethargy, shortness of breath.	Was on 2.5 mg for about a year with very few side effects cough and muscle cramping and lower bp. Upped dose to 5mg a few months ago to lower bp further. 1	h.b.p and a stupid idiot doctor !	Excessive Cramping in back - pains beyound threshold of pains!! Chest pains (angina) a known side effect from ACE INHIBITORS!!! Extended bloated belly! internal Pains in Gut! Headaches! more cramps than I can stand! Dizzyness !! this drug is a P.O.S.	Anyone in a HMO? My Hmo doctor lied to me about this drug , he knew I couldnt take a ACE INHIBITOR drug -but what did he do, He said oh take this, its good for you! this one wont hurt you. I asked what of drug is it, he said its what you need ! dont worry you can take it! He Lied!!blad faced Lied !! 2	High Blood Pressure 168/90	Started 25mg for 2 weeks increased to 50mg - spent Christmas holidays sweating, coughing, heart racing, anxious, waking much of the night. Doctor put me back to 25mg after 4 weeks - seemed better for a month then symptoms started again along with rash on lower back and pain around right side kidney area. 1	High BP-148 over 112	I lasted on Altace 5mg for two weeks. The feeling of fatigue started the first day. Arms and hands would tingle on and off. Dizziness as well. Initially, I had bad diarrhea. Bad gas throughout as well. After a few days, intermittant blurred vision. Muscle pain started as well and an achy feeling like I had the flu. On a few occasions, I had to stop and lie down as I had severe pain in my back around the kidney area. Also I had a very bad dry cough to the point of nearly vomiting. About 10 days in, my brain seemed to be getting messed up. I felt like I had A.D.D. and could not focus on any tasks to completion. It seemed to be doing something to my nervous system so I gave up on the symptoms just passing as they had with my other BP medication. I quit on day 14 and the symptoms subsided within 24 hours for the most part. They were completely gone in 4 days as my doctor suggested that they would.
