I was not getting any relief taking 40 mg of protonix twice a day. Because of the flavor I gag so bad I throw up right after taking it, so it has done nothing for me... My symptoms seem to be getting worse, not better although I have completely changed my diet. I noticed worsening nausea when first starting Carafate so took only 2 times a day instead of 4 times as prescribed. By day three epigastric pain was really bad, eating felt like I was swallowing rocks, and after eating I would get very strong nausea waves and what felt like cramps in my upper and lower G.I. My pain was so much worse on day three of the medicine and nausea so bad when attempting to eat that I decided to stop taking it and the next day the pain was much lower and was able to eat without nausea. I really think I have an intolerance to this medication and I feel better without it.
