All of this because of a boil like bump. Humira is a highly dangerous medicine. I was on it for 2 years and I had clear skin for the first time since I was 7 so I really did think it was a wonder drug. Except, it almost killed me. I was becoming paralyzed from the extremities inward. I had teams of drs working on me and a nerve biopsy sent to the Mayo Clinic proved that Humira destroyed my nerves. It didn't stop there. Humira ate away at my connective tissue and internal organs as well including my heart and my brain. Now I am left unable to work nor am I able to do most things I used to enjoy. At age 34, Humira took my life away and left me destroyed. Please heed my warning and learn from my experience. If I would have combatted my psoriasis with proper nutrition and stress management instead of turning to a "medicine" I would be in a totally different place. Now I am jobless, homeless, and without a future all because of this horrible poison. My life is over but I hope and pray others will not have to go thru what I have. The worst part was being treated for each issue/symptom individually by several Drs. in different facilities without the ability to tie all of these incidents together with HUMIRA-compromised mental faculties? Both my father and brother have had success with this drug, but I can't say that I'm not going to end up paying with my life, which I hardly recognize as mine, anymore. My prescribing physician (dermatologist) was super enthusiastic about suggesting this option for the single recurrent abscess that was active at the time, but I have no idea what it happening my body at this point, much less which specialist to bring it to for proper diagnosis and treatment. I do get a lot of phone calls from my assigned nurse, Lauren, who is not well versed on the "rare" side effects I am now living with. Had some relief from the Humira at about 3-month point, then the HS flares increased again. always within 1 day of Humira injection. On both -mab biologic drugs I developed chronic fatigue, unpredictable moods, anxiety, depression, both insomnia and heavy sleep, and general sense of malaise and lethargy. Also during this time I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy. I have also developed serious food sensitivities and allergies that I did not have before taking the biologic drugs. The RA has progressed, though perhaps more slowly due to the drugs, but my quality of life has decreased significantly. | I recently stopped taking Humira. I would NOT recommend any biologic drugs to anyone. Humira is not called a chemo drug, despite that being what it is. Targeting, killing and modifying cells in our bodies is the very way that it is designed to work. These biologic drugs wage chemo warfare in our bodies, and the side effects and issues these drugs cause is because our bodies are fighting to get rid of the invader, which is the drug itself. No drug will save your life because we are human. We are not meant to live forever. Stay away from the -mabs and all the other biologic drugs. He told its what you need to control your disease it takes a while before you will see improvement. Month after month I felt worse and worse developed real shortness of breath went to pulmonary and cardio Drs after one year and was floored to hear congestive heart failure and restrictive airway disease I am only 50 and could not believe what I was hearing had to go on oxygen. I also in that year had multiple infections lung sinus UTI cellitis derma cysts that got infected never had those before. The whole time my Rheumatologist was telling me you inflammation is down you need this medicine. I am here to tell you I got very minimal relief from my RA symptoms and instead got all these other things. After the Cardo appt I told the Rheumatologist enough no more shots unfortunately it take a good 10 weeks to clear your system so they say. Well it has been 5 months no shots yes my inflammation is up and I have R A pain but not that much more then when I was on shots AND I am no longer on oxygen my heart is healing numbers are good and the cardiologist said the good news is most of the damage can be reversed. No more infections swelling weight gain insomnia or anxiety that is great . Instead of a gradual decrease in pain it was a dramatic increase over far too short of a period. | given how this Rx works on suppression of TNF, I think the overall risks especially how it impacts the immune system is far too risky. HUMIRA (ADALIMUMAB): Adalimumab is used to reduce pain and swelling due to certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, ankylosing spondylitis). This medication is also used to treat certain skin disorders (such as plaque-type psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa). It works by blocking a protein (tumor necrosis factor or TNF) found in the body's immune system that causes joint swelling and damage in arthritis as well as red scaly patches in psoriasis. Adalimumab belongs to a class of drugs known as TNF blockers. By reducing joint swelling, this medication helps to reduce further joint damage and preserve joint function.
