The only thing I have ever been given for strep throat is an antibiotic. Had I been told this is what I was being given, I would have refused. I have a history of seizures and would never have agreed to receive this. This drug is horrible!! After reading these posts, it seems that this drug is given for very serious medical issues, which makes it even harder for me to understand why the doctor gave it to me for strep throat, which I get almost every year, and recover from just fine within a few days on oral antibiotics. It also sounds like it takes a long time for this mess to be completely out of your system. DECADRON (DEXAMETHASONE): Dexamethasone is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood/hormone/immune system disorders, allergic reactions, certain skin and eye conditions, breathing problems, certain bowel disorders, and certain cancers. It is also used as a test for an adrenal gland disorder (Cushing's syndrome). This medication is a corticosteroid hormone (glucocorticoid).
