Dr. decided it was too addictive & put me on this! I have not slept at night since I started it. I didn't realize ER gave it to me last year for nausea & I was So restless that I could not stay in the bed. It made me a nervous wreck! I did not have anxiety before. I just needed something to get me to sleep. I take it just 1x a night. But never again!!!! How can Ambien not cause me any side effects & this Hydroxyzine cause me horrible side effects.?! | It also gave me severe diarrhea! I cannot take St Johns Wart either as it messes with your serotonin! | F | 71 | 0 days 25 MG | 10/15/2019 | 2 | Insomnia/Anxiety | I was prescribed Klonopin for years but benzos scare me so I tapered myself off. I have used Vistaril for a year off and on as my Lexapro causes insomnia. It helps but my dreams are annoying and the next day fatigue and irritability escalates anxiety | M | 68 | 1 years 25 | 9/10/2016 | 1 | Anxiety | You name it, every possible negative effect. A Horror. Dizzy, disoriented, GI problems, muscle pain, dry mouth, severe despair, etc...unsafe to drive, yes, also Weight Gain very quick and obvious with taking very small dose! Nothing Good from this drug- nothing! Don't forget Serious Dehydration. | Stay away from if you value your ability to function and want to escape suicidality | F | 66 | 1 days 20mgx1/day 1X day | 12/31/2022 | 1 | Insomnia | It did put me to sleep but I was so groggy the next day. Not worth it. | F | 66 | 3 days 25 1X day | 9/2/2020 | 1 | To sleep. Didn't work at all | Pissed me off | Rip off | F | 66 | 3 days ? In hosp | 12/24/2017 | 1 | Insomnia | Could not sleep, restless legs, felt like I was drugged. Headache next day, groggy. | Will never take again!!! | F | 65 | 1 days 50mg 1X day | 8/16/2021 | 5 | insomnia | none at all. | this is highly unusual (for me to NOT have side effects), as i have fibromyalgia and am very drug-sensitive. usually, meds have an OPPOSITE effect on me. i take 50 mg. nightly, when i'm in bed, and am usually asleep within 10 minutes. | F | 64 | 2 years | 5/14/2005 | 1 | Sleep | I tried this on a Dr's advice but it is definitely causing me lots of aweful dreams. They are so realistic and scare me so much that I try to wake up to stop the nightmare but I end up going right back to it. I'm always in a very deadly situation in each case and the people I love most in this world ie kids, granddaughters, and mother are always the ones I'm trying to save. It took me a while to realize it was the Vistaril but as soon as I skipped a night, no nightmares. The dreams are so vivid and scary that I can't put them out of my mind for most of the day. This drug is not worth the distress and depression it's causing me. Trust me, this is a horrible way to feel and I hope this helps people. | F | 64 | 30 days 25mg 1X day | 1/17/2021 | 1 | To taper off benzo's | This drug made me very, very ill. Mental confusion, auditory/visual hallucinations, disturbed coordination. anxiety that was OUT of CONTROL!!! Paranoia, panic attacks, irritability, blurred vision, headache, fatigue, severe dizziness, severe mental confusion and memory loss, mood & mental changes, and I'm sure there are a few I left out. I thought I was losing my mind while taking this med! I thought all these things were a result of withdrawing from Klonopin, but once I looked up the side effects of this medication, I was absolutely stunned that all of this could come from what is peddled as "antihistamine". Never, ever again. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR SIDE EFFECTS BEFORE TAKING ANY NEW MED. I don't care if "most people" don't have "severe side effects" or not - YOU could be the one that is NOT included in the group that doesn't! | A ridiculous amount of side effects for such an innocuous-sounding drug. I think doctors should be more cautious of the patients they prescribe this to, due to the number and severity of possible side effects. My psychiatrist prescribed this for me - and not until this morning did I see that people with seizures are ruled out for taking this drug! He never even asked, but it was right there in my chart. This has been hell. | F | 63 | 30 days 50 3X day | 10/12/2016 | 1 | Anxiety | I think that you have to have a really good imagination to think that Vistaril works....at ANY dosage. | M | 61 | 1 months 50mg x 2 | 4/19/2014 | 1 | Anxiety | This med made me psychotic and paranoid | I was taking zoloft for depression and last year was prescribed vistaril for anxiety. I don't know how I spent the last year of my life. I don't know where I have been or what I have done. I have bits and pieces of memory. I went missing and my family filed a missing person with the police. The police found me in a seedy motel. I was convulsing and had no control over my bowels and bladder. I was unable to walk and my blood pressure was off the charts. Taken to ER. After many tests, I was diagnosed with a sleep disorder, panic attacks, delusional, anxiety, and psychotic. I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. The psychiatrist increased the vistaril for anxiety and insomnia. I had uncontrollable jerking and felt as if my body was infested with bugs. I was discharged after 10 days. I fell and broke my arm and wrist. My behavior was out of control. Screaming at my family, thinking they were trying to murder my daughters. I was taken back to the psychiatric hospital, but was refused admission after talking to a psychiatrist. He diagnosed me with a sleep disorder, saying my behavior was due to lack of sleep. I was found in another motel, on the floor, with a broken leg. I was totally disabled with a broken left arm and right leg. Back to psychiatric hospital. Same diagnosis, sleep disorder. I was told to keep taking vistaril to sleep. Months later my brother found me near death at my parents home. Back to ER. I was given klonapin for anxiety and final | F | 60 | 1 years 50 mg. 4X day | 5/19/2016 | 1 | For sleep | I was prescribed this med a few yrs ago. It made me so groggy with no energy, headaches, bad sweats agitated and horrible vivid nightmares along with more. I just started taking it again. After just one night taking it the bad side effects kicked in even though I cut the pill in half (25 mg). I will NEVER touch this stuff again. This drug is dangerous! | F | 60 | 1 days 25 1X day | 4/15/2021 | 5 | Anxiety/panic | No side effects | Did find out that Vistaril was suspected in causing a prolonged QT interval on my EKG and was told to taper down on it due to what could cause sudden death. | F | 58 | 5 years 75 1X day | 7/26/2016 | 5 | Anxiety | No side effects because I benenfit from the reduction in anxiety that it brings and although it doen't completely put me to sleep, it sure helps me be calm | Been taking for about 3 weeks. Vistaril has made more difference in my life than any other drug so far? I think for the first time in my life, I can enyoy the entire day. Or if I am doing some kink of intense and I know it will be causing anxiety soon, I take 50 mg and all is well. I still use techniques to quiet myself in addition to the Vistaril. Works for me 100% | M | 58 | 3 weeks | 5/23/2005 | 1 | insomnia, anxiety | I was able to fall asleep, but had brutal dreams. Pics would flash through like when someone sees their life before them. Moved through head very rapidly. After the first dose, I was extremely dizzy with a "whooshing" sound anytime I moved my head or eyes. I was not sure it was the med, so took it the next night. Dreams worse--flashes of pictures while asleep. Next am very dizzy--eyes hurt behind lids--"swooshing" sounds again on movement. No more of this med for me! Terrible feeling! | F | 58 | 2 days 25mg 2X day | 2/18/2014 | 2 | Anxiety | Dizziness, cloudy head and vision, feel like I am going to HAVE a panic attack which is what I am taking it for!, groggy, clumsy, feel like my body doesn't work right | Disappointing as I don't want to go back in SSRI's | F | 57 | 1 days 25mg 3X day | 9/14/2020 | 1 | Anxiety | Side effects were, increased depression, heart palpatations, tiredness and increased anxiety. After last day of taking it, I had a morning migraine with severe nausea. Later that day, I was admitted to the hospital with heart palpations and concern of arrhythmia. It took some time to leave my system, but palpations have subsided with no further problems. In my opinion, and from reading the experience of the majority, prescribing Vistaril for anxiety violates the "Do no harm" obligation of medical practitioners. | F | 57 | 5 days 25 mg | 9/23/2014 | 1 | anxiety/insomia | I switched insurance plans and was given a new doctor who informed me that she doesn't believe in Xanax and refused to prescribe it, even though I had been using Xanax with great results for a few years. I never abused Xanax..as a matter of fact I always had pills left over when my Dr would refill. Took vistaril for 2 nights. I had the most horrible dreams imaginable. Very vivid..very real...scared me half to death. Was afraid to take it during the day. I have been living with this horrible anxiety untreated for 2 years now. I don't understand how insurance companies can dictate what Dr you can see, or how a Dr can take you off a drug that has made your life livable. | F | 57 | 2 days | 7/31/2016 | 1 | insomnia/anxiety | None | Didn't do anything for me except good for certain allergies. Benadryl doesn't affect me either, sleep-wise | F | 57 | 3 months 50 4X day | 3/29/2015 |
