REMICADE  (INFLIXIMAB):  This medication is used to treat certain types of arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis of the spine, psoriatic arthritis), certain bowel diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), and a certain severe skin disease (chronic plaque psoriasis). In these conditions, the body's defense system (immune system) attacks healthy tissues. Infliximab works by blocking the actions of a certain natural substance (tumor necrosis factor alpha) in the body. This helps to decrease swelling (inflammation) and weaken your immune system, which slows or stops the damage from the disease.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  Crohn's Disease I no longer have chronic pain to distract me from contemplating my miserable existence. A half-decade of remission with no real side effects. Hopefully I get one of those rare aggressive cancers associated with TNF-a inhibitors so I can quit my job and finally die. M 28 6 years

5  RA Just makes me very tired and fatigue after having an infusion. Next day, I am full of energy like my old self. It usually last about 6 weeks and I take it every 8 weeks. I have taken enbrel, humira, Simpsoni aria, Orencia , Rituxan Remicade and Actemra over a 15 year period. Remicade has been the best and lasted the longest. Acterma caused me giant boils. It was awlful because they got infected with mersa. F 65 4 years

5  Psoriatic Arthritis Initial side effects were fatigue day of and then a few days after. First couple of infusions developed mild mouth ulcers. Brain fog had never been an issue in the past; however, I do experience for a couple of weeks - nothing severe, just forget talking points mid conversation. Experience nausea, but zofran helps greatly. I had an infusion a couple of weeks ago and I experienced the least amount of side effects ever! My dose is 8 vials every 8 weeks and to date I've had 7 infusions. Remicade allows me to walk and have a normal life. I have been on methotrexate, most biologics some with no success, and some like Enbrel and Humira who worked wonderfully and then stopped. PsA - most people don't understand the severity until they witness you being unable to walk. To me - the side effects do not outweigh my quality of life and fully functioning in my career.  5  Crohn's Disease Mild exhaustion Remicade saved my life. Without it, I don't know where I would be right now. It has eliminated many of my Crohn's related symptoms and brought me to remission. I've been in remission for almost two years because of it and I couldn't be more grateful to be where I am. I would highly recommend it to anyone with severe Crohn's Disease. F 17 3 years

5  crohns Disease Totally wiped out for a few days after treatment. This is the only side effect I have experienced. Thankfully! I have had Crohns Disease for about 24 years. I was not responding to any other drugs and My doctor recommended a new experimental drug. I have been taking Remicade for Crohn's disease for around 20 or more years back when it was experimental. I've take it every 8 weeks for the last 20 years and I have never to this date had any Crohn's symptoms. It is truly a miracle drug! M 48 20 years

5  Rheumatoid arthritis Nausea and feeling worn down and icky the day of and next day after infusion. Only twice did I have trouble breathing during infusion, but that was due to not being able to be on remicade for 6 months due to insurance change. Even though I've had two scary moment where I could not breathe, my nurses took wonderful care of that and I've had no issues since. I absolutely love this drug! I was bedridden for 2 years!!! At 28 years old!!! Now I have my life back!! I am willing to deal with occasional nausea and fatigue just to be able to walk! I take the double dose every six weeks as the normal dose and 8 weeks didn't help much. I have very severe RA. Humira and enbrel did nothing for me. I am on 1cc methotrexate weekly as well. I personally recommend this drug for RA. It has saved my life! F 31 2 years

5  Crohn's disease I feel like my sinuses are always a little stuffy. I take it every 6 weeks because it starts wearing off then - I never made it 8 weeks without being miserable at least 2 of them. I exhausted all other medications before trying Remicade. It started helping 3 days after first dose. I have my life back, I'm healthier, I can eat most foods except dairy. I hope it works for a long, long time. M 20 2 years

5  severe, fistulizing Crohn's disease Loss of efficacy when hospital infusion room gave me the wrong (lower) dose. After an additional 600 mg, I got the Remicade working well again. I am 76-years-old. I was one of the first 100 patients placed on Remicade. I take it as a monotherapy. I've never had any surgeries. The doctor who gives me my infusions, wants to take me off the drug. I won't let him do it. I'll find someone else if I have to. Remicade is a miracle drug that gave me my life back. F 76 18 years

5  ulcerative colitis After my first remicade dose I felt like I got my life back. I was severely ill - could not attend school at all, could not walk, stooled 20-30 times a day. Remicade took my pain away, decreased my stool count, and made me feel energetic. No side effects for me. On top of a strict diet, golden. Life saver! F 18 3 years

5   I have RA and have been in complete remission for 11 years with methotrexate weekly and Remicade every six months. No side effects.  5  Chrons disease We fought and fought the dr not to take this drug I said this was not worth it the side effects the whole practice kept telling me that my daughter was so sick because of being in and out today the hospital with her flare ups and she was always so depressed with the bathroom visits and then she developed C diff the GI Doctor used this to scare her I said to her this was not it was not a normal situation and it was such a small area of concern in her intestine and the side effects did not out weigh the drug. But she was 18 at the time and decided she wanted to try it he said she had to use 6-mp with it I was like I don't think that is a good Idea he insisted. Few treatments have passed not even a year...So she did this she recently had a follow up visit with him and he Said from her blood test something wrong with her Liver we have to stop the 6-mp and this is where the nightmare has began I had no idea he was such a horrible doctor and did not think clearly what not to do prior to a remicade treatment and what to test for when your liver is like that!!! he said she needed a vaccine pneumonia and flu, so we did (we never should have) then she went for a remicade treatment her very last which we should have never done!!! we are praying to God her body can recover and she does not develop any cancers or any of these diseases- you see the doctor thought the 6-mp was the problem we went to a hematologist almost had a liver biopsy she was getting worse so tired sleepy. I wish I knew. If I had not taken my daughter to that last treatment. And that doctor should have tested her for mono he would have known she was sick and not had her get vaccines or a treatment she would not be this sick! I really think a lot of this is the doctors fault and he is trying to place blame on me or ignore the situation. We have gotten a referral to a new Dr. The saddest pet is he referred us and then reached out to the new doctor to discuss her new treatment which makes me more upset! Now I don't even know what my recourse is! F 19 10 months

5  Crohn's Disease Nothing that I can identify as a direct result of the drug. I've been taking Remicade every 8-10 weeks for 14 years, starting when I was about 16 years old. It was a new drug when I started, and the rapidness with which the administration of the drug has gone from an intensive ICU experience to a very casual environment is apparent. I have been stable since my initial 1-year bout after diagnosis as a result of chronic diarrhea and fistula. Highly recommended, revolutionized the treatment of this disease. M 30 14 years

5  Crohn's Disease Volunteered to be guinea pig for my GI Dr after it came out because nothing else was helping my fistulizing Crohn's. To this date, I still consider it my wonder drug. Within a week of my dosage, fistulas disappear and my active life goes on. Slight headache after infusion, and a little tired, but I am on THRIVE by Le-Vel, and have all kinds of energy. I feel like as though I have converted back to my teenage years, before the Crohn's Disease. Worried about reading all the bad side effects scares me, but so far, so good for me. Live each day to your fullest. This has given me better quality of life, plain and simple. Was told at age of 19, my probability of reaching 30 was slim. I am now 50, having been, and still on Remicade, living a very active life. F 50 14 years

5  IBD When I was moved from 300mg to 1200mg, three days after the infusion I lost my temper. I didn't have a temper until the Remicade, so it was quite a surprise. I am very careful now about situations that I get myself into. I find I get angry easier and faster. Works great for my Ulcerative Colitis when nothing else did. F 44 1 years

5  UC Itchy back and skin all over. Dry skin. Tiredness. Odd chest pains My doctor gave me remicade as a last resort while in the hospital for 2 weeks. Lost 50 pounds and was basically dieing. Remicade was instant success. Doctor canceled surgery to Remove Collin and everything else and get bag. My UC came on in a 6 month period. No prior illness. I'm very thankful. Get infusions every 2 months. I take testerone shots once a week and it pulls me out of depression and gives me back my libido and skip in my step. Google remicade and low testerone affects. I believe every male above 35 should have testosterone shots while on medication such as remicade. Have done extensive research on this matter and feel free to email me with questions... M 40 2 years

5  Crohn's Headaches, dry peeling skin at the corners of my eyes, umpteen UTIs, had a ureteral reimplantation last February, crabby, muscle pain. The list goes on. I've been on Remicade for 10 years. Why can't I stop it if I'm in remission? Cancer patients don't keep taking Chemo, do they? F 53 10 years
