I suffer from a severe case of hyperhidrosis and I literally drip of sweat in the hotter summer months, ever since my doctor prescribed pro banthine my life has changed for the better. I am now able to do things I neva used to do like going out in public on a hot day and playing sports. Yes its does give me a dry throat and a mild headache but that's a small price to pay for the amazing results it gives you. I try and hold of eating for as long as possible as food reduces it's effectivness. It makes it really difficult to eat because my mouth becomes severely dry. I only take it when I have to go out to social events, because facial and hand sweating increases my anxiety pains. It makes me feel a bit sleepy. It doesn't completely stop my underarm sweating, but it does reduce it by half. I would like to know how to counteract the dry mouth, pharmacy oral liquids do not help me with this. I take it first thing in the morning and leave it as long as I can before having breakfast where I find it works really well for most of the day. There have been times I’ve taken it near a meal and it dramatically reduces the effectiveness. It’s not that you can’t eat for it to be effective but more that you should first take it on a completely empty stomach. I don’t take it everyday- only as and when I need it. So if I’ve been invited out for dinner or going somewhere new. I get really bad anxiety sweating so that’s the kind of situation which would set me off so it really helps. The only downside is the dry mouth which is especially annoying when you’ve gone out to a restaurant but I’d take a dry mouth over sweating excessively at a dinner table in front of a load of people any day! It seems to have worsened in the past few years to the point where it was limiting the activities I could undertake. My hair would be dripping with sweat and I looked as though I had had a shower! Absolutely embarrassing when in public...and it has ruined many a holiday. My poor husband has been through hell! I was prescribed this wonder drug two weeks ago. At first, the excessively dry mouth and very red face made me think that the drug would not be for me but I have stuck with it (though only take as and when it is very hot or when I am e.g. golfing or gardening) and these side effects are definitely lessening. I wish I had discovered this drug 40 years ago ( not available then...I know!) as I can see it will be transformational for me. The one thing I am struggling slightly with is a dry left eye as I wear contact lenses but this will hopefully improve over time. I drink much more than previously to eradicate the dry mouth but that has been good for me as I didn’t drink nearly enough previously. Side effects are that you get a dry mouth and a sore throat, I am also losing my voice but I can tell that day by day the side effects are getting less so hopefully these side effects will go within time. On the good side, the sweat is only just now starting to come back two days later, but not nearly as intense. On the other hand, I absolutely will not take this pill again. Ever. I don't know if it's the drug itself that doesn't agree with me or if I need a lower dose or what, but it did a serious number on me. For the next couple hours, I was absolutely miserable. My face and arms turned blood red with trapped heat. NOTHING could get rid of the very severe dry mouth -- water, hard candy, chewing gum, nothing. It quickly dried out my throat and made me lose my voice. Even my nose got severely dried out, which isn't exactly a good thing during spring allergy season. The dry mouth abated in about 6-7 hours, but it was a day and a half before my throat completely healed. I normally tolerate medicine really well, so I was *not* expecting the intensity of these side effects, nor was I expecting them to hit me as quickly as they did. Bottom line: if you are certain you have hyperhidrosis *only* and you can deal with the side effects, this drug is extremely effective. If your sweating is caused by any kind of hormone imbalance or nervous system disorder that makes you feel hot, do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this medication.
