1  Nerve pain Moodiness, feeling of loss of control of yourself and your behaviors, feelings of doom (like I felt I was going to die in a moment), depression, anxiety. Struggled to maintain both personal and professional relationships - I almost lost everything due to this drug. I felt like a teenager who had schizophrenia or multiple personalities on this. It started so slow I didn't notice what was going on at first. I'm normally extremely professional, but it culminated in me screaming at my boss during a meeting one day and then right after he angrily called me into a private conversation, I started sobbing uncontrollably. He asked me what was going on and I had no answer. I felt like I was about to die right then and looked at the window in the office we were talking in and had this intense urge to jump. My rational brain felt like it was turned off. I told him that I had been taking this medication and when I had started it, and his immediate response was "well that explains a lot about what you've been like the last couple months." That was the moment I knew I had to get off of it and FAST. Do not take this! F 32 3 months

4  Nerve pain, neuropathy and MS I occasionally feel groggy. I have also gained a great deal of weight. My neurologist believes some of it comes from gabapentin. (60 pounds) Gabapentin has been great for nerve pain. When I have missed a dose, I can really tell. I am slowly weaning off his to take Trileptal. Don't know how it will work. F 53 2 years

4  diabetic neuropathy I don't really think I have any side effects. I get kind of loopy, but since I have a anxiety/panic d/o, that seems to help me not be as anxious. So, sometimes a side effect is a benefit, not a detriment. My feet don't seem to burn as much at night. I think this medication has done well for me. I do notice that I want to eat everything in sight and that's not good. As stated, it helps with my anxiety also which has been a daily unwanted companion for almost 9 years. Sigh....you have to take the good with the bad. F 56 5 months

1  Pain Extreme dizziness and weight gain. Also, always knocked me out completely (day or night). So bad that there was a time I even peed in bed during the night (yes it's true). Going off this drug immediately and will never go on it ever again. This drug is evil and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. All of the nasty side effects just aren't worth it and will do more harm than good. Oh, BTW I was taking this drug for multiple sclerosis (relapsing/remitting) that I've had now for 27 years but nobody can tell I have it. I'm already on numerous other medications so I think I can deal with the pain I'm experiencing without the Gabapentin. F 1 months

5  Post-op nerve pain I had only minor side effects while taking medication and it did help the pain; therefore I had to give the effectiveness a rating of 5. HOWEVER, after tapering down, then discontinuing the med, I had severe chills, sweating, restlessness and insomnia. The chills and sweating went away after about 3 days, but the insomnia remains after 1+ week. I would have to rate my overall satisfaction a 1. I'd like to know how long I can expect the insomnia to last. To physicians: Please be aware of the side effects of discontinuing the drug and advise your patients. If I had known that they could be this unpleasant, I might have chosen not to take the medication. M 76 2 weeks

1  Severe Back Pain, rib cage spasms Anxiety, confusion, and suicidal ideation that led to suicide attempt. Ended up in a psych ward, then had the problem fixed by switching to Robaxin and low dose of valium I think this drug is being prescribed off label to the detriment of unwary patients and doctors being fed misinformation by the manufacturer. It was developed for epilepsy. I had a similar reaction to Lyrica, which shares the basic chemical structure. F 59 1 months

1  Depression/anxiety It was hard to figure out the side effects since i was also taking lamotrigine at the time. Hair loss, vision blurry, headaches and memory concerns seems about right. Look, I dealt with depression/anxiety off and on for years and took many drugs which were at best ineffective and at worst near deadly. A few years ago my dr was beyond a moron and prescribed a dangerous combo of meds that nearly killed me and boy do I ever wish it did. The cover ups, changing of notes and complete fabrication of lies opened my eyes to the medical business (it is a business after all...you think these drs work for free?). I will go out on a limb here and say this; only take a pharmaceutical drug if you absolutely MUST take it and never if the need is otherwise...ever. These drugs are made and tested by companies that could care less about you and only about your wallet. The FDA has been caught accepting bribes etc and is far from being on your side...period. This isnt my opinion, this is fact! This website is by far the best when it comes to unbiased opinions and it should be applauded for that and I only wish I had listened to the negative reviews of a previous med I took that nearly killed me like I mentioned. Once a med damages your health, its pretty much game over...at least in my case, and you will pray for death daily. The safest med is the one you dont take...trust me on this. Peace M 41 2 years

4  Herniated Disc in lower back & Scia When I first started taking this drug I would feel loopy which I enjoyed. I would also feel sleepy. I've been on Gabapentin 300 mg taking 2 pills a night for 3 years. I don't feel anything after taking it anymore so every once in a while I'll stop taking it for a week then go back on it. When I do that I can then feel it working because I'll feel really nice & drowsy. I have not felt any withdrawal effects as others have stated. Maybe you get those at a higher dosage? I don't know.  5  nerve pain, bipolar, This medication is a life saver, but the withdrawals are unbearable!!! Make sure that you don't run out of it. It is a great drug, the only side effects that I had in the beginning was that they made me feel sleepy.now that I'm used to them I don't get that anyone. It's seems that they now give me some energy they also can increase your appetite and that will dissipate in time. F 57 4 years
