Whenever I would move my head or try to stand up or sit down, my equilibrium would be briefly thrown off. I would have to have one hand on a wall if I had to get up and walk. My doctor said my issues were probably not caused from the Propofol, but instead claimed they were probably due to mild dehydration from the colonoscopy prep. I've been dehydrated before and never experienced any vertigo/equilibrium issues. Had mild burning when it was injected. This time I didn't experience burning. It was severe pain that made me cry out. Felt like someone stabbed me in my iv site. Anesthesiologist asked me what was wrong. I told him. Said it must have been the propofol. He rubbed my hand for a bit then asked me if the pain was better. I told him not really. Then I finally passed out. It was the worst part of the surgery and something I never want to experience again! After the surgery I learned severe pain from propofol injection is pretty common. So common the manufacturer recommends using lidocaine to prevent it. The side effect profile does not mention these as side effects?? Thankfully I read a medical journal essay--apparently it has to do with the mask delivery system.
