1  Colonoscopy and hernia Hypertonic muscle contractions lower back (bent me backwards, could not use my legs), severe thigh and calf pain, left leg was rigid and tried to turn my foot to point behind me. INTENSE pain! Will not use again It took a lot of research but this happens to .03% of the population. I found a warning for men over 50. This is a delayed side effect that begins 2 to 3 days after the dose. Two different procedures - colonoscopy and hernia so it is not related to body position during the procedure. Dangerous drug.  3  Colonoscopy Post procedure: moderate anxiety, mild shortness of breath. Given a propofol / midazolam combination via IV. Very happy with being completely “out” for the 30 minute (late morning) colonoscopy. Woke up with no noticeable side effects and was sent home quickly. Slept soundly that evening. HOWEVER, day after procedure I am feeling a constant, gripping anxiety. I’m Not an anxious person, and this feels horrible. This is the first time I have ever experienced this. F 65 1 days

2  Endoscopy/Colonoscopy Before I get into the negative experiences, I will say that it did knock me out quickly, and when I came to, I had no memory of the procedure and felt quite good. My husband told me later on I was quite loopy. If it weren't for the headache, mild urination issues, and vertigo/equilibrium issues I experience afterwards, I'd have rated Propofol a 5. The headache and difficulty urinating lasted only a few hours, but the vertigo/balance issue lasted almost 24 hours after the procedure. Whenever I would move my head or try to stand up or sit down, my equilibrium would be briefly thrown off. I would have to have one hand on a wall if I had to get up and walk. My doctor said my issues were probably not caused from the Propofol, but instead claimed they were probably due to mild dehydration from the colonoscopy prep. I've been dehydrated before and never experienced any vertigo/equilibrium issues. By the next morning, I was thankfully about 90% better. F 43 0 days

3  Colonoscopy Very sore throat plus chest & nose congestion, hard to talk for quite a few hours afterward. Have had propofol a few times before and it was the best part of the procedure, no side effects, felt fantastic afterwards but this time I think when the dr was telling me to breathe I must have taken a deep breath as soon as he started administering it. Side effects are only on one side so maybe that plastic tube was awry. F 58

3  Laparoscopic Hysterectomy I've been given propofol for several surgeries. Had mild burning when it was injected. This time I didn't experience burning. It was severe pain that made me cry out. Felt like someone stabbed me in my iv site. Anesthesiologist asked me what was wrong. I told him. Said it must have been the propofol. He rubbed my hand for a bit then asked me if the pain was better. I told him not really. Then I finally passed out. It was the worst part of the surgery and something I never want to experience again! After the surgery I learned severe pain from propofol injection is pretty common. So common the manufacturer recommends using lidocaine to prevent it. So now I'm pissed because I feel like nothing was done to prevent it in my case. I wouldn't recommend taking this drug unless your anesthesiologist is going to take measures to prevent the pain. F 36 0 days

3  colonospy in recovery woke up with sore throat (felt like strep) nose running, coughing, headache, hoarse voice, chest congestion. Was told it was probably due to oxygen given during procedure. this was first colonoscopy and first propofol The drug did work. went out quick and woke up quick and alert. Not sure if the recovery experience is related to drug or oxygen. Annesthia said not related to procedure. I should go get covid test. I find it hard to believe that covid could develop within a 20 procedure. F 52

3  Colonoscopy First 4 times I had it for colonoscopies no problem except for nasal production afterward with one of them.. The last time: yesterday, I woke up and proceeded to cough almost non stop for an hour. The RT they called said it was not bronchial or lungs but in my neck. I do have PND also. M 77

4  Colonoscopy After waking up during my first colonoscopy, this anesthesia was fantastic. As soon as they rolled me into recovery, I started coughing with a mucousy cough and a tight chest. That continued when I got home. After about 2 hours, I started getting chills---I could not get warm. An hour later I was running a 102 oF fever. Called the doctor. On call doctor said it was probably COVID. Took 650 mg Tylenol at 7:30. Woke up at 1:30 am and took temp---normal. Went this morning and got a COVID test and they also tested for the flu. Both negative. No cough, no fever this morning or at Urgent Care.. While I loved not waking during the procedure, I wish there was more information on this reaction to propofol. I also had a severe reaction to a TDAP vaccine so I suppose I am just one of those "lucky" people. Otherwise, very healthy. F 68

4  Colonoscopy I had it for a colonoscopy yesterday and it was great! Best ever on waking up and feeling good- until about an hour later I developed bad chills, could not get warm, then low fever of 100-100.9 for about 7 hours. Called MD, she said it isn't the anesthesia, so I COVID tested and an isolated. Today I feel pretty good, no fever. Searching Propofol and found on Medscape that there are cases of acute fever after having it. I would use it again, but I would have liked to have known fever could be a result. F 64 0 days

1  Colonoscopy Took IV propofol for routine colonoscopy. I have had many Colonoscopoies in past with no problems , but don't know what anesthesia was given. This time I had side effects so I inquired and was told propofol . I was fine at first, but when I went to sleep after getting back home (12 hrs. Later). Woke up with room spinning, dry mouth. Next day , balance issues. 3rd. day, room spinning, couldn't walk without assistance , nausea, vomiting, clammy. Thought maybe I was having stroke or heart attack since wasn't sure if it was anesthesia or not. I rode it out and vomiting stopped. Took 5 days to get back on my feet unassisted. Nurse insisted she didn't think it was propofol because its supposed to leave your system quickly. Apparently, we're not all the same. I am sure it was the propofol. Will request alternate next time. I have had longer surgeries in past and knew I didn't do well with propofol, I told anesthesiologist but he just said it was probably from gas. He pretty much ignored me. I didn't think they would use that after telling him I had problems In the past. F 70 1 times

2  colonoscopy For my first colonoscopy, used different drug and was 100%. Now, after second, rhinitis, ear ache, nasal congestion, coughing for a few hours, reduced oxygen after procedure. Took a long nap and not refreshed. Procedure was early this morning and 7 p.m. now. Hope I feel better tomorrow. If this group didn't describe these same feelings I'd be running out for a Covid test. So thank you for those who shared. The side effect profile does not mention these as side effects?? Thankfully I read a medical journal essay--apparently it has to do with the mask delivery system. My nurse acted surprised by these symptoms. More proof we need to be out own caretakers. Will go next time to non propofol-using doc. F 63
