1  constipation It took 3 doses to produce a small movement followed by watery liquid. Next day 1 more dose to try for movement. 1 very watery movement. Didn't seem like very much actual poop. Now having lots of painful, bloating gas. I won't take it again. I should have read reviews first. Probably would have tried something different. F 64 1 days

3  IBS-C Terrible gas, nausea, bloating, severe rumbling and gurgling, stomach distention, headache, weight gain of approximately 4 pounds in 7 days. This was prescribed after my insurance refused to pay for Linzess, which worked amazingly. I also tried trulance which did not work as well. This is terrible medication. I have forced myself to take it thinking after a couple days things would level out however I think it's getting worse. I can go a day having 1 bowel movement and then not have another for 2 days. Even after a bowel movement I'm so uncomfortable and bloated. F 38 1 weeks

5  Chronic constipation Diarrohea, slight cramps and nausea. I suffer with quite bad constipation and can go a full week without going to the toilet. I was prescribed Lactulose a few months ago but hadn't taken it. I had a flare up of constipation and felt a lot of discomfort in my abdomen and sluggish so I took one single dose of Lactulose. About an hour later I started to get nausea which made me take one of my antisickness tablets and then another 3 hours later I got gurgling in my stomach and had to run to the toilet. I had bad diarrohea for the following couple of hours but felt a lot better from it. It says on the bottle that it takes 48 hours to work but this was not the case for me! It took a few hours at most. F 29 1 days

1  Extreme chronic constipation Extremely dissatisfied. I realise I have to wait a couple of days but still no bowel movement. I had my last bowel movement 3 days ago with the strong laxatives I have been using for years. I wanted to switch to something less harmful since I regularly used to take strong laxatives for many years. However, the problem for me is that I started taking this the next day (friday) after my last bowel movement on Thursday. Today is Sunday and even though I took a strong laxative on Saturday night (upon doctors advice) I have still not had a bowel movement which I normally used to have the next morning after taking this strong laxative at night. Also I am unable to eat properly since I started this lactulose syrup. The lack of appetite nauseous feeling and the worst is the bloated feeling in my abdomen which does not make me able to eat properly since I am always feeling very bloated and full. I am really at my wits end since I realise this is a very slow acting laxative but since I took my strong laxative last night which usually works and I am still not having any bowel movement I am feeling very dissatisfied. I hope I get a bowel movement soon since I am feeling very miserable and genuinely worried and concerned that inspite of my taking this strong laxative last night (alongwith my dose of lactulose)I have still not had a bowel movement so far.  4  chronic constipation and impaction some gurgling feelings, fullness, bloating, but all are temporary A gentle laxitive that helps manage the size and hardness of my movements. I have constipation as side effect of medication (nortryptaline, for chronic migraines). Prior to the meds, I used to go 1 or 2 times a day but then it became once every 3-5 days and very difficult to pass (like a football down a drainpipe!). Very easy now. Downside is the taste, it's like drinking corn syrup. F 37

4  Ibs with constipation Gas, cramping, uncontrollable diarrhea I was told to take 30mg twice a day, along with miralax- indefinitely. That was WAY too much stimulation. After eliminating mirilax and reducing lactulose to 30mg daily in morning, it works well. Within 5-6 hours the diarrhea starts and itís basically like a colonoscopy prep daily. Itís better than being constipated for weeks on end- but I have to stay close to a toilet until itís out of my system. F 43 0 days

LACTULOSE  (LACTULOSE):  This medication is a laxative used to treat constipation. It may help to increase the number of bowel movements per day and the number of days you have a bowel movement. Lactulose is a colonic acidifier that works by increasing stool water content and softening the stool. It is a man-made sugar solution.   (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
