Now shes thinking i may have chrones. No i dont. Its this medication. Never had one issue until this med outside of heart rate that use to be occasional. Now its constant. DO NOT USE THIS ATENOLOL. Side effects come one at a time about 4 to 6 months after you start taking it. Its so slow you dont relate it to this. Physical activities in general require more effort, ostensibly due to the Atenolol slowing down my heart rate. I haven't found this to be particularly bothersome though. I'll gladly put up with this as the benefits of atenolol far outweigh the risks. This drug has been incredibly effective at reducing my blood pressure from around 190/105 to 118/78. | Atenolol has changed my life. I had uncontrolled high blood pressure for years and recently I believe this had really taken a toll on my health. I felt like shit more days than not and eventually I found myself unable to get out of bed. I often slept 15 or more hours a day yet never felt rested. After about one week on Atenolol those symptoms were gone. I have energy again and healthy blood pressure. HOWEVER I am writing now because suddenly there was a huge SHORTAGE of atenolol and I could not get it, so my doctor switched me to another beta blocker, metroprolol. It doesn;t seem to have worked, my BP climbed higher and higher without my noticing that first week and suddenly I felt "stoned," and could not focus or think logically. Got B checked and it was higher than it had ever been, like 200/108 which never happened with Atenolol. My doctor has doubled the dose of metropolol and added another medication I have never taken, Losartan 50 mg. I'm still hitting 160/95 in the mornings and then it drops down to 140/86 just before dinner, then rises again before bedtime. And this is 1/2ing it and taking 1/2 in am & other in pm.
