VANCOMYCIN HCL  (VANCOMYCIN HYDROCHLORIDE):  Vancomycin is used to treat serious bacterial infections. It is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This medication is usually given by injection into a vein. However, the form in vials may also be given by mouth to treat a certain intestinal condition (colitis) that may rarely happen after treatment with antibiotics. This condition causes diarrhea and stomach/abdominal discomfort or pain. When vancomycin is taken by mouth, it stays in the intestines to stop the growth of bacteria that cause these symptoms. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.   FDA Approval Date: 2016-08-17 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  MSRA or whatever its called xD Felt very weird, instant ichiness, that's about it. This worked very well for me, I had a horride staph infection that i let get out of hand and thank goodness they had this big bad boy antibiotic to kick its tail around. My wounds healed up nicely and im now on bactrim to finish up. M 20 7 days

2  MRSA After 2 weeks of HIGH dosage one day started itching from head to toe, was told to take benadryl. Extreme headache, hives, rash, dizziness, nausea, fever, chills, uncontrollable shaking, low blood pressure (at times), and worst of all was the extreme pain in my arms neck and shoulders, which I am still feeling a week later, I can hardly move my left arm which is also numb, but the dr said I will regain use within 3 weeks. It cleared the MRSA but I had terrible reaction to it! I recommend the drug because it will eat MRSA for breakfast lunch and dinner but PLEASE PLEASE don't be afraid to let the nurse know IMMEDIATELY if you start to feel any of the above symptoms especially the itching. Redman syndrom is not too big of a deal I guess but in my case it was pretty extreme. M 28 2 weeks

2  MRSA It seems to have handled the MRSA, but caused a rash over most of my body. Feet, hands, and groin especially. 2 weeks since coming off of the Vancomycin and still peeling in areas, feet and hands are still sensitive. I only give this a "2" because the MRSA seems to have been cured. A "1" would probably be more appropriate, but since the MRSA is as dangerous as it is, I will leave the rating a "2". The skin reaction has definitely extended my recovery. M 38 7 days

5  MRSA septicemia Hair loss, dry skin Vancomycin effectively eradicated the MRSA infection in my blood by the end of the six week treatment by IV. Significant hair loss is concerning, but I am grateful the antibiotic did its job and possibly saved my life. I am allergic to some antibiotics and sensitive to many drugs but had no problems tolerating vancomycin. F 38 6 weeks

4  C. Difficile Mouth sores, rapid weight gain, insomnia, depression , but this could have been coupled with my c.difficile. I was given IV for 6 days then oral liquid 4 times a day with home recovery. Very expensive drug. Terrible side effects but I got better slowly. F 58 4 weeks

4  C diff Intestinal cramps, fatigue, dizziness, weight gain, depression, hair loss, bloating, problems eating certain foods, depressed, muscle cramps, cough, headaches I had a very severe case of c diff. I was on flagyl for 2 months before vancomycin. I’m taking the vancomycin in liquid form 4 times a day with a gradual step down in times a day over the next 6 months. I find the doctors don’t know or give you much information about the drug or c diff. C diff is a horrible illness and I came very close to death and find what are my choices to get better. I’m hoping that after 6 months my hair will return, the other symptoms will leave as well as the c diff. F 69 3 months
