I felt Terrible for 5 days and had to come off them a day early, I just couldn’t handle the side affects any longer . As soon as I stopped ! I felt fine ! No dizziness and able to function again. My lung infection seem to have gone slightly but still needed inhalers for the remaining wheezing . In all honesty ! This has been the worst medication I’ve ever taken and will not have it again ! Did not go out in the sun... started med at night discontinuing. | I started the med at the advice of a doctor on duty doctor since I became ill over the holiday and my regular doctor left town. I had never taken this before but I hoped for relief from a cold that had possibly brought on bronchitis. I am asthmatic so chest colds can become seriously. Shortly after my first dose I noticed a pinging feeling as I felt my skin began to produce histamine reactions to the medication. I ignored it because my skin is sensitive but as the evening progressed it was clear the med was making me itch as I felt the sensation . All over. Because I’m allergic to antihistamines which also make me itch, I don’g see how I can continue with the med. I should note that lately several antibiotics have begun causing skin itching. I saw my doctor when I came home; I explained to him how I was feeling; he simply said I didn't have a fever and to go home to exercise, he also said it was probably jet lag. He still advised me to take these pills. I ended up in the ER two days after seeing my doctor (he won't be as of Sept. 1st). Every blood test came back normal; so to find out what the problem was, I was referred to an infectious disease doctor. I was also told by the ER doctor to stop taking doxycycline, which I was already going to do. I read it takes about 5 days to get out of your system; after five days of not taking this deadly medicine, I almost feel like myself. I experienced nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, feeling of being unbalanced, lightheaded, extreme pressure in my brain, hot/cold, super low energy, and an overall feeling of not being okay; I literally carried my cell phone with me from room to room in case I fell or got too weak. When I told the nurses and doctors I was prescribed this; no one had anything good to say about it. I'm not a person who take pills often, however I will stick with holistic doctors and natural remedies. | Just remember that pharmaceutical companies can care less what they give patients; their job is to give you medicine that causes other problems which leads to more medicine. Nausea, abdominal cramping, dizzy, felt like I was going to faint, sweating profusely, chills, very cold, and now all of my food tastes sour. | I called the doctor. She advised that these symptoms are all normal and that we can lower my dose to 75mg/day since I'm not having any swelling of the face, neck, lips, tongue, and no hives or rashes. If the side effects remain or worsen, I am to discontinue all meds. Good grief, this is almost not worth it. And the sad part is, some people don't like doctors and don't like taking medications. And then for a condition to get so bad, that you decide to get some help, they prescribe these medications that make you feel like you're dying! Apparently, I will be taking this drug for the rest of time if it works. I have been on so many RA drugs that have lethal side effects and others (Plaquenil) that cause blindness after 5 years. Biologics are up to $2000 with Anthem advantage plan then, once $3500 deductible met I only pay 25% of cost. What do they want people on Medicare (disability) to do (die?). The script for doxycycline was $228!! What a joke! | I am doing everything I can eating vegan, losing weight (40 lbs to go) to try and get rid of this debilitating disease. I just turned 52 and feel like I belong in a nursing home. Why this happened to me I will never know, but it sucks real bad. Let's just say that happened 3x on an empty stomach! I thought I was dying. Side effects were the same every time with an empty stomach. Within 30min to 1hr headache, chills, indigestion, & nausea. I quickly discovered the side effects were less if I ate 1.5 hrs before I took the meds. Now I'm on week 2 of a 30 day dose & have begun experiencing joint / muscle pain - to the point it's difficult to stand & walk a lot.
