It worked within the first 48 hrs. Felt like the virus was making it's last stand within me, before to lost to the drug. Remember it getting a lot worse fast, then, slowly started to feel better. During the 10 days on this drug. Had the typical mild diarrhea a lot of people were talking about and also excessive gas. And I mean bad. Also, no sleep, none, like 10 minutes for 4 days total. I remember thinking, why am I not falling over after 2-3 days of no sleep. After 4- 4 1/2 days, finally could get some sleep. | After the 10 days, the doc wanted to do a 3rd, 5 day run with it. I said no way, and she gave me something else for 5 more days, Z-pack, I want to say. The side effects, made no change, or slightly got better. Now, this was August 21, 2014. The first day of this Biaxin. And I still to this day, (Feb 4, 2015) have not felt right. All of the following starting happening while on Biaxin and have stayed the same since. Tired, no energy, Aches / shooting pain in both shoulders and arms, down to left hand with numbness in small and ring finger. Every joint cracks, knees, shoulders, arms/elbows, neck. Weight gain, anger/short temper, internal emotional turmoil. Fogginess in thinking at times. Blurred vision when reading close up, small print. (But could be that time in life at 45 yrs old when glasses come into play. But didn't need before.) Morning (how shall I say) 'bathroom schedule' has never been the same. Prior to this, within 1/2-hr of waking, the morning routine of shave, shower and 'potty' was done. Never to be repeated until tomorrow. Now, 2, 3, 4 times a day, this 'process' will be repeated. Aside from these things, I don't feel 'sick' per say, more like something is going on internally. Truly considering going for a doc visit and getting some blood work to see if something else is going on or it is just the long term effects of this drug. | M | 45 | 10 days 500 1X day | 2/4/2015 | 1 | Sinus infection | Two days into my seven day prescription, I experienced severe stomach pain, a horrible taste in my mouth, which combined with the stomach pain made me very ill. Even worse and more disturbing was the sudden feeling of depression and anxiety. Everyone on here should report their side effects to the FDA. If you have a non-healing wound suggest culture for acid-fast bacteria, as I went through 2 mos. of treatment, 4 different antibiotics and 4 cultures before finding out what may work to get rid of this very resistant organism. Looked up side effects of the medicine and discovered that this drug is associated with mania induced by antibiotics (Clarithromycin is the most common culprit, but Amoxicillin is also a culprit). Informed my doctor and stopped taking all the drugs. Tuesday night, insomnia. Wednesday morning, extreme irritability, explosive anger, uncontrollable crying. The drug should be out of my system by now, but I am still feeling the effects.
