1 | Cough | After taking it during the night, I had trouble staying awake in the morning and went back to bed until 2:00 p.m. Still tired, it apparently wore off and I was okay, but will not take it again as I am supersensitive to many prescription drugs. | F | 77 | 2 days 1 to 2 tsp 3X day | 8/28/2012 | 1 | Itching | Anger / irritability | All antihistimines make me grumpy but these are a nightmare. Good for getting to sleep but I've spent the whole of today in a rage. I'd rather deal with the symptoms than make everyone avoid me. | M | 31 | 1 days 25mg 1X day | 5/30/2011 |
PROMETHAZINE HCL (PROMETHAZINE HYDROCHLORIDE): See also Warning section. Promethazine is used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting related to certain conditions (such as motion sickness, or before/after surgery). It is also used to treat allergy symptoms such as rash, itching, and runny nose. It may be used to help you feel sleepy/relaxed before and after surgery or to help certain narcotic pain relievers (such as meperidine) work better. The suppository form is used when medications cannot be taken by mouth. Promethazine is an antihistamine and works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Its other effects (such as anti-nausea, calming, pain relief) may work by affecting other natural substances (such as acetylcholine) and by acting directly on certain parts of the brain.
