SAFYRAL  (DROSPIRENONE; ETHINYL ESTRADIOL; LEVOMEFOLATE CALCIUM):  This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (drospirenone). It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. This product also contains a folate supplement (such as l-methylfolate, levomefolate). Folate is a B-vitamin that women of childbearing age use to help prevent spinal cord defects in an unborn baby. The folate supplement in this medication, along with a diet rich in folate, lowers this risk if you become pregnant while taking this drug or soon after you stop taking it. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, and may decrease blood loss, painful periods, and the risk of ovarian cysts.  3  Birth Control No weight gain, maybe even slight 1-2lbs) weight loss.i did have strange cramps in my toes and feet that I never had before. Definite increased anxiety. I am switching to Generess FE because I think Safyral has been causing my hair to shed over time. It also changed the texture from thick and slightly wavy to pin needle straight. But, I did not get pregnant. I am 43 years old , very active, 5'5" 125lbs. and stayed that way on this pill. F 43 3 years

 3  Prevent pregnancy estrogen dominance, hair loss, fatigue, cravings, bloating The only thing I liked about this BCP is cleared up my acne, and no breakthrough bleeding or unplanned pregnancies. I hated losing my hair more and more over the 10 months while on it! I also hated the lack of sex drive, intense carb cravings and fatigue I experienced toward the middle-end of each pack. I will be switching back to LoEstrin FE next month because the side affects are becoming worse with time. F 26 10 months
