LO LOESTRIN FE  (ETHINYL ESTRADIOL; NORETHINDRONE ACETATE):  This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: norethindrone (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. This product also contains a small amount of iron (ferrous fumarate) in inactive tablets taken during the fourth week. The inactive pills do not contain any hormones. These tablets are meant to keep you in the habit of taking 1 tablet each day and do not have enough iron to treat iron deficiency. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, decrease the risk of ovarian cysts, and also treat acne. Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia).   FDA Approval Date: 2010-10-21 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

3  Regulate cycle Vision, headaches and insomnia So far the issues I've experience are tolerable. I've always been prone to headaches so im not sure if this bc is a cause if it or not but i can say they do last longer then before i started this bc. I haven't experience any break thru bleeding or lengthy cycles. My obgyn suggested i try it for 3 months for my body to get use to it. I actually like it so far if these headaches wo u ld go away id like it more but i notice as long as i take smthg at the start of it i have no issues.I havent experienced any weight gain or mood swings. Sleep is becoming an issue but I'm not sure if it's this bc or if im stressed. I have noticed a change in wit my contacts my eyes seem dryer but im hoping once my body gets use to this bc in the next month or so ill be back to normal. F 42 2 months

1  heavy periods, pregnancy prevention Severe nausea and headach, came in waves. Mood swings and deep depression, suicial thoughts. Vision issues- saw things that weren't there... And just weird flashing. Insomnia. Continuous bleeding. I just want to eat chocolate. I am sensitive to pills and the doc gave me this saying it was a very low dose. I have had a headache for a week. The 7th day the headache and nausea were very bad. At times I felt like my head was going to explode or that I was having a stroke. Had strange vision issues, saw things falling over but they weren't. F 31 7 days

1  Birth control while nursing Mood swings, irritability, no sex drive, feeling off, no period. I wouldn't recommend this pill. It is expensive and has too many side effects. I've been off of it for 4months and have been bleeding pretty much since then. I feel horrible all the time. I wish I never went on it. F 26 2 years

5  Heavy periods due to fibroids Slight headaches, elevated blood pressure I was never able to take bc pills in my twenties, they always made me feel nauseous. Not with Lo Loestrin fe. My periods are not heavy and it has regulated my cycle from coming every 15 days to a normal 21 - 24 day. And as a bonus my skin is extremely clear! 46 9 months

1  Reduce Bleeding due to Fibroids I read the reviews but had not used a birth control in over 20 years so I didn't think much about the bad reviews. That has since changed because by the 4th pill I felt horrible. On Friday morning after starting the pill on the previous Sunday I was so sick. I was nauseous, restless, foggy mind, sad and emotionless and I wouldn't have thought it was the pill had I not read the side effects. I will refuse to endure 2-3 months of this. I have a career, a life and a family and I cannot be sidelined because of a horrible drug. My co-pay was still $43.00 even after my BC/BS paid $88.00 and I wish I had known how bad it was going to be because I could have saved money and days of being sick. Most medications do not present problems for me which tells me this form of "low dose" hormone is not for me. Reconsider this drug if your OB/GYN prescribes it. I'd actually rather have the laparoscopic hysterectomy and endure that than to be this sick for months. F 44 8 days

3  Birth Control It took 3 months to get used to this pill but over the years I was on it, my periods were light and relatively easy to predict. My last full gyno exam showed my blood pressure was very high. My doc immediately took me off the LoEstrin Fe. I got my period 3 days after stopping and had some of the worst cramps and passed the largest clots then I have had in my life prior to starting the pill. I am also experiencing lower back pain that radiates through my pelvis and sometimes feels like menstrual cramps. But I haven't had another period since the first one post pill. That was 3 weeks ago today. I have been feeling moody and have a very low libido. If I had known the effects I would experience those first three months in starting the pill, and what I am feeling now that I have stopped it, I would never have chosen this particular pill.  1  For birth control Major hair loss. It occurs gradually so u don't notice until it's too late. This is a high androgen birth control pill. If u are sensitive to androgens don't take. They should be sued. The absolute worst F 47 1 days

2  Heavy constant periods Bloating, exhausted, irritable, depressed and weight gain. Dr said to give it 3 months to go in effect. I was constantly bleeding heavy bloat clots for several weeks each month so I opted to give this Pill a try. I immediately stopped w/the heavy period which is positve but now I feel extremely anxious, emotional, tired all the time and continue to lightly spot daily. My appetite has increased and I'm bloated so I don't fit into jeans after 3 weeks of taking this pill. Plus, my body just feels an over all achy/tired that is worse than when I was constantly in flow. I will probably give it a full cycle before I decide on whether or not to continue taking it but the over all low energy is unlike anything I've experienced in the past with other pills. F 49 1 days

2  Perimenopausal heavy bleeding Severe hair loss, weight gain, low sex drive, moody Since taking this pill my hair is constantly shedding. My hair dresser first noticed it while washing my hair and showed me the wad of hair I left in her sink after just one wash. I can't even run my hands through my hair without at least 20-30 strands falling out and if I brush it, it falls out in clumps. To top it off I have gained 10 lbs in just 2 months and have no desire for sex. Mood swings like crazy...this pill is so not worth it! F 43 2 months

2  Heavy Bleeding Bloating, Weight Gain, Spotting My GYN prescribed this to help control my bleeding. I immediately stopped having full cycles but I spotted on and off for the first 4 months. I have not had a full period since I have been on it but I am 50 years old and weigh more now than I ever have. I increased my one hour workouts to 4x's per week and still continue to gain weight. My libido is non-existent which has been a rarity during my 29 years of marriage. I am opting to discontinue usage and get my life back!!! F 50 11 months

1  prevent pregnancy Fatigue, no period, random spotting, major anger, depression, severe lack of libido I am very disappointed with this birth control. I went on it specifically because it is a low dose to hopefully bring back my depleted sex drive, however I found it pushed it even further back while also inducing rage fits, depression, and random bleeding.  4  Prevent pregnancy headache for a few days I feel like I have more energy now. On my last BC I felt bloated alllll the time which is definitely a horrible feeling. I was always so greedy sitting thinking about food. But now my appetite is a lot less of a greedy person and I just feel good. My husband and I notice my face trimming down. I'm so happy for now. I'm praying that I loose 10 pounds..I hope this continue not to have any side effects....🙏🏾 F 37 7 days

2  To try to reduce a thick uterine lining I had a brutal 9 day bloodbath in the middle of my cycle (filling multiple pads and tampons daily.) The cramps were more than I'm used to, but not unbearable. I assumed it would have been done with the bleeding after the 9 days in the middle of the month, but sure enough my period showed up right on time. My period was a normal flow for me. I didn't continue taking the pill after the first month of use because it caused far more problems than benefits. My acne came back, I was irritable, and everything felt somewhat off emotionally and physically. I've been off of it for a few weeks and I have a bit of cramping and some weight gain as a result. I'm hoping I'm just bloating and my body is trying to adjust to the hormonal change. I do believe this pill can be useful in some circumstances and is worth trying, but discuss the risks and side effects with your doctor. My doctor said all of these symptoms were possible and we decided it was still worth trying for the condition that I have. Not the worst thing in the world, but not for me. F 22 1 months
