3  To manage my BS w/o so many needles Nausea, then uncontrollable vomiting. Lost 10 pounds in 3 days. Was never overweight. At almost 5'9" I weighed 160 lbs before Victoza. Loss of appetite. The little I did eat came back up in full force. Initially when I was first diagnosed with diabetes type 2 I was taking Glipizide. In 2010 I was put on insulin, both Levemir and Humalog. There was no problem except I got tired of sticking myself with needles and wanted to return to oral medication. That when I was prescribed Victoza and 750 mg of Metformin. I have to take 0.6 for a week, 1.2 the 2nd week and 1.8 the 3rd week and thereafter. I vomited a lot (and I mean a lot) but concluded that maybe it was because of the levothyroxine and avorstatin medication. When I stopped taking it, the vomiting stopped and I felt better. With all the negative hype about the side effects, I worry and don't really know if I will continue taking Victoza and Metformin. The best thing is that I only have to stick myself 2x daily no I had been taking Levothyroxine for underactive thyroid and Avorstatin for my cholesterol a long time and don't think Victoza should be taken with these medications F 73 3 days

5  type 2 stomach issues , nausea and really sick stomach in the beginning. I have lost 37 pounds in 3 months, the side effects are almost gone and my body is adjusting well to this in combination with1000 mg Metformin daily also. I am taking 1.2 of the Victoza and my BS is great and my A1C has gone from 9.6 to 7.2 and I am thrilled. I just turned 60 and I feel like this is giving me a second chance. I knew that I was on the brinko of disaster and I am so thankful for this medicine. I know it is not going to be for everyone, but don't give up so quickly. It has changed my life and I can't wait to loose another 20 lbs and stay healthy. Thank you researchers and doctors for this medicine. On the flip side I did not think I was going to be able to do this but as I said the sick stomach and fatique has subsided. Stick it out and let this work for you too. F 60 2 months

2  To lower glucose and to lose weight Headaches, swelling of the stomach, bruising in injection area, extreme fatique, very sensitive, I did not like the way I was feeling so I stopped. Did not lose any weight. Before starting Victoza my glucose level was a little high but I don't have diabetes. Now that I stopped (2weeks) my glucose levels are staying way too high. My stomach is feeling a lot better but now I am so worried about my glucose levels. :( F 53 5 months

History
5  Lower blood sugar When you first start there is some nausea. I did vomit a few times, but I guess that probably depends on your tolerance for nausea. That is the only bad effects I have. This drug has been wonderful. I started taking it because even on Metformin my A1c was 9.2, fastings in the high 200s. It was horrible, bad foot neuropathy etc. There is some nausea when you first start taking this and I had it fairly bad for the first month probably, but there are things I learned to decrease it. Smaller meals and I take the shot later in the day like a few hours after lunch. The worst nausea occurred when I took it right after a meal...Don't do that!!! It slows stomach emptying and if you take it right after your meal just sits there and causes issues. I am over 350 pounds and in 3 months I've lost 35 pounds effortlessly. My A1c went from 9.2 to 6.5 in the first three months. I have been huge my whole life. I have always felt like I was missing something that tells me when to stop eating....Victoza does that for me. Now I will have a meal and eating along as normal and something will just tell me its enough and I stop with no problem. I very rarely finish my plate now. I have a stop button now and I stay full longer. I no longer eat anything after dinner...no interest in it at all. I also do not crave carbs like I use to. Yes the side effects can be bad at first, but I can say with all honesty that now 4 months out and I do not have any side effects, but maybe rarely. If you are big and your sugars are out of wack the side effects are worth it. Just get through the first 2-4 weeks and be smart, don't stuff yourself especially at dinner. Als F 42 4 months

1  To lower Blood Sugar A1C Severe stomach issues including upper and lower digestive track. Was able to keep food down on 1.2 dosage but as soon as dosage was raised to 1.8, I was deathly sick. I will not be going back on it because I feel that it is poison to my body. Did loose 20 lbs in 6 weeks, but it was because I was only eating about 1000 cal. a day. Had no desire to eat, look at, or cook food. Had no energy at all and felt more depressed. It did lower my blood sugars, but as little as I was eating, it's no wonder. I also experienced headaches and bloating the whole time I was on Victoza, even at the lowest dosage. F 53 45 days

5  pcos and weight loss Love this. Lost 20 pounds this month. Works best if I inject it in a fat fold vs middle of my stomach. Mild side effects nothing major. Went down to 1200 cals a day easily without hunger pangs. F 31 1 months

2  Weight loss Severe gingival irritation was the main reason I stopped. Constipation was annoying, but not a deal-breaker. I noticed reduced efficacy of other medications, specifically my Lexapro. Reduced my appetite somewhat, but my motivation to exercise was reduced as well, so it was a wash. I was impressed by how painless the injections were. Disappointed that it didn't work for me.  2  Borderline Type2 & Weight Loss Nausea, bloating, diarrhea, cramping, fatigue My upper and lower GI side effects started a few hours after my first dose and have only intensified. I am nauseated all the time, and my stomach is tender and bloated. I feel like I need to have a massive burp, but the little ones I can produce don't give any relief. I have now learned that this med slows emptying of the stomach, so the symptoms make sense. The thought of food makes me want to throw up; if you can't eat, then of course you're going to lose weight... this just isn't the way I want to do it, LOL. I will not be continuing with Victoza, and pray that it won't take long for these symptoms to fade away. F 45 7 days

3  Type 2 diabetes Lots of abdominal pain, thought it was my gall bladder and after lots of tests found out it is not. Now have started the very bad sour tasting belching, diarrhea, that will be followed by severe throwing up. Notice if I am stressed it gets worse. I can't stand the burping and the gas. Was going to have more tests ran until after reading all the comments on here. Plus I have no energy at all. I took it for awhile in the past and never had this kind of problem. But now it is getting intolerable. I was loving it until I have been getting so sick. I thought I kept catching the stomach bug going around. I am going to lay off a few days and see what happens. I have noticed that if I eat raw veggies, fruits and a small piece of chicken, and very small helpings the symptoms go away. But it also makes my blood sugar drop as well. I have lost nearly 60 pounds on this and love that. But hate how I feel. I long to be back to me. Going to talk to my doctor about this. F 59 1 years

1  Type 2 diabetic I did well until four weeks ago and developed a very sore throat and bronchitis. I had taken it for two months with no problems . I took antibiotics and it helped a little and then things got worse. I looked up side effects and says sore throat,, upper respiratory infection , and bronchitis. My doc didn't think that the Victoza was the cause.. I insisted on going off the Victoa and the symptoms disappeared in three days. I may try it again but not until feeling well again F 52 3 months
