Psychiatrist gave a low dose but still stopped it . After reading posts its not worth it. I would recommend anyone to get a genetics test especially if sensitive . Even being late taking this one causes me "zaps" (a weird electric sensation in my head). However, it keeps me on an even keel and I would never want to be completely off it. I decided to try a half-dose instead of the 150mg I'd been on all this time. I didn't notice any dip in mood or outlook at all--and my behavior was unchanged. The only difference seemed to be that I could cry again. My DO wanted to try me on different meds because she thought this one was causing too fast a heart rate. I didn't believe she had any idea about venlafaxine or any other drug and didn't feel like letting her experiment on me. I am on here to NEGATE that this is a horrible drug or has a HORRIBLE withdrawal. If you will read the literature, 5% of people have difficulty coming off this drug. I had no problems except a buzzing when I turned my head for a couple of days. I stopped taking it 7 days ago b/c it was no longer (not sure it ever was) effective. I was in the bottom of the pit again and not willing to be there again. I feel so much better. Physically and mentally. Do not believe all the horror stories on here about w/d. Sure it's a true fact there are people with problems stopping it. ALWAYS do this with practitioner on board, okay? Don't cold turkey this. That's when people get in trouble. To be noted that the withdrawal effects are quite severe: I once forgot to take it with me for a week away and I had constant nightmares and strong dizziness during the day.
