4  Anxiety Headache, slight nausea, bowel changes, jaw clenching/chatter, vivid dreams I have been on this for just over 3 weeks and am doing really well on it. The first 4 days I had a very persistent headache that lasted all day, but finally went away on the 4th day. BM's are still not quite normal but nothing super uncomfortable. The first night was when I experienced the jaw clenching, and the only reason I knew that happened was because when I woke up my jaw was tired and sore (I'm not a grinder/clencher normally). The jaw chatter is so slight I have to concentrate to notice it and it's not occurring all the time. The nausea was also very mild and gone within the first few days. I have noticed that my dreams at night are much more vivid and morebfrequent than normal, and a little on the weird side but not nightmarish or anything like that. As far as helping with my anxiety, this started helping with that within the first week. I feel calm, am able to focus, and am just all around feeling better about things. I see a lot of people say they are emotionless robots on this medication but I am not experiencing that at all. My boyfriend says he hasn't noticed me acting any different other than my mood has improved and I seem happier than I was before. So far, so good! F 31 3 weeks

2  Anxiety and Panic Attacks Dilated pupils, insomnia, panic attacks, increased sweating, shaking, difficulty urinating, bowel changes. I had to stop after a week as I couldn't bare the side effects anymore. I probably slept an equivalent of 10 hours in 6 days. I had panic attacks every night, compared to the one once a month I was having not on this medication. I took this medication years ago and my body tolerated it alot better. By the 5th day, I did experience a decrease in anxiety at work, however I felt foggy and out of it. So that, on top of all the other side effects, it was not worth it to me. F 24 1 weeks

3  Anxiety and some depression The first day was straight nausea all day. I had this weird feeling of almost throwing up in my throat accompanied by my jaw clenching involuntarily for most of the first three days. I also experienced shakiness and jitters, akin to being really cold, where even your teeth chatter. I also felt "buzzed" and a little cloudy/foggy I did however notice myself not thinking so much and so rapidly and didn't react anxiously to as many things as I normally would. I felt like I could "live in the moment" a little more. Definitely too early to see if it's gunna be a win and the side effects are a little funky but I'm sticking to try it for at least a month F 24 3 days

5  Major depression / Schizoaffectve D Very few. It makes me tired & relaxed. A little happier - as major depression is not a happy condition. I do have to force myself at times to get things done. That is not a horrible side affect compared to nausea & swelling & anger & feeling crazy. I have few bad or adverse side affects on Lexapro. Please do not take this drug away or discontinue it. It has very few ugly side affects. Lexapro works better for me than any AD or Antipsychotic I have taken in 10-11 years. I feel normal & not crazy or nutty. It does make you tired a little. It also helps you sleep when you need to. I don't have the kind of condition that i can work fulltime like I had been for 40 years - 40-60 hour weeks. I could add an AD to it, but they have more side affects to deal with. I might try one in the future. Most of the time I feel really good. I just don't always think as fast as i used to. My depression developed over along length of time. The anxiety started in my mid 30's. I had a nervous breakdown in 1995. i worked again full time 1996 - 2008. The depression got worse after 2008. I was diagnosed with Major Dprssion & Schizo-Afctv disorder in 2009. The only cure for my depression is medication & sleep. Lexapro has worked so well for me that I hate it when somebody want to know the name of it. I fear it will be discontinued. It also is not the drug for most patients. It helps me to feel like a human instead of a zombi like person or an angry crazy one. There are other mood stabilizers like it, but it works, so why mess with it? Lithium - no thank you! Prozac - I wanted to fly off a building! That might explain a few suicides? The drug drives you to it. Please don't discontinue this drug! It is an older one. I think it was invented in 2007.or before. God bless the researcher or doctor or pharmacists who developed it. - whoever that might be. - Forest P F 58 11 years

3  High Anxiety After three weeks of taking Lexapro I developed severe shaking, loss of thought process, and extreme stuttering. I looked up the drug interactions with my other meds. Trazadone, Orphenadrine, and Insulin and Atomoxetine, found out Lexapro doesn't play well with these. It was very scary. At first we thought I had a Mini Stroke, which I didn't. We stepped down on the Lexapro and am no longer taking the meds. It did help with my anxiety but the side effects were not manageable. F 53 4 weeks

4  Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression Switched to Lexapro after taking Zoloft for about 3 years on and off and just having a really bad time with it. It stopped being super effective and I was getting weird side effects, etc. Lexapro staring out was AWFUL. The side effects the first 2 weeks were almost unbearable for me, I considered stopping it a few times but I am glad I pushed through. I was having headaches, zero appetite, felt like I was in a bubble, emotionless but sad empty feelings, felt like I was buzzing or dizzy all the time, nausea, feeling sleepy all the time... I had so many bad side effects. But after about 2 weeks on the dot, they started to disappear. Since then I have not had a single panic attack when I was having them nearly everyday before this med. it has definitely been the most amazing affective drug for anxiety I have ever taken and have very few side effects now. The only down side I notice now is that I almost have worse add and depression. I have gotten somewhat lazy and it's really hard for me to stay focused on tasks that I don't want to do, but in the other hand I'll sit on my phone or computer or a video game for HOURS and then be upset I wasted my day and did nothing. Over all i would say the benefits outweigh the negatives for me. Good for Panic and Anxiety disorders for sure. F 25 3 months

1  Anxiety and panic attacks Was on Cymbalta for a few years for anxiety and panic attacks. Started to get anxiety which lead to a panic attack. Seemed like Cymbalta wasn't doing it's job anymore. So I did some research and asked relatives, and Lexapro seemed to have positive feedback. So I got with my PA-C and told them my problem and the research I did and wanted to switch to Lexapro. They agreed and said we will try this and see how it goes. I stopped Cymbalta & started off on 5mg of Lexapro. The first 2 to 3 days where ok a little bit of dizziness, my doctor said that, that would happen. About the 4th day I had really bad insomnia. Couldn't get to sleep for anything. Then when I tried laying down to go to sleep. I started getting weird heart flutters and I would have to sit up in bed until I got so tired that I would have no choice but to go to sleep. About 5 to 6 day's in on 5mg I started having a weird feeling in my chest & a tickle in my chest/throat that made me cough. Not all the time, it just came and went. Then after a week on 5mg I went up to 10mg for 4 day's. that's when it got alot worse. I had this sick/nauseous feeling in my chest along with a constant heart fluttering feeling. My heart rate was 116 to 128 just standing still. And when I sat down my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. My blood pressure was fine, and the bp machine didn't pick up any irregular heartbeat. Had tightness in my chest along with pain. And pain in my shoulders and upper back. Was thinking ab M 29 11 days

3  Anxiety First night extreme nightmares and flashbacks. Heart was racing. Continuous nausea, dizzy spells, shakes and not feeling right in the head followed for the next 2 weeks. 3rd week although much milder in comparison side effects still exist. I am sleeping approximately 11 hours per night and my anxieties are now minimal. At this point (day 25) I am questioning whether the side effects are worth it. Never felt so continuously unwell.  5  Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorder First week: increased suicidal thoughts and symptoms related to anxiety and depression PLEASE try to take this medication for more than 2 weeks atleast even if the side effects are bad!! My side effects were horrible the first week but after that one week they went away. This med saved my life. Please don't give up on it until you have taken it for atleast longer than a week if you are able to. It made my symptoms worse for a week before it made them much better for a year. HOWEVER - please talk to your doctor in case you have increased suicidal thoughts or ideation. F 18 1 years

5  Anxiety and depression Jaw clenching, tiredness, yawning, fidgety legs/foot tapping I could sleep all day if I had the time, but since I originally had insomnia this is preferable. My anxiety and irritability got better almost instantly. My depression is starting to get better as well, and it's only been 3 weeks. The constant jaw clenching is weird but definitely worth it.
