CYMBALTA  (DULOXETINE):  Duloxetine is used to treat depression and anxiety. In addition, duloxetine is used to help relieve nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy) in people with diabetes or ongoing pain due to medical conditions such as arthritis, chronic back pain, or fibromyalgia (a condition that causes widespread pain). Duloxetine may improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level, and decrease nervousness. It can also decrease pain due to certain medical conditions. Duloxetine is known as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). This medication works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (serotonin and norepinephrine) in the brain.   FDA Approval Date: 2004-08-03 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Anxiety Massive weight gain, nerve damage, anger issues, chronic fatigue, bruxism, loose teeth, worsening of initial symptoms, depression, suicidal ideology, severe itching, sinus problems, visual and audio disturbances, brain fog, nightmares, agitation, liver problems, incontinence, constipation/diarrhoea, depletion of thyroid meds, body pain, memory problems, joint stiffness, sweats, shivers, I'm sure I've forgotten some. 20 months of the 2 years have been tapering off this drug to avoid withdrawal symptoms as cold turkey is not an option. Soul, brain and gut destroyer. This stuff is poison and doctors do NOT know how to safely wean people off it. Eli Lilly are literally making a killing on this drug.If you value your sanity please do not take this drug. F 50 2 years

1  Depression Increased anxiety, weight gain, dulled emotions, reduced sexual ability, incontinence, irritability, apathy Concern about long term impact on liver function Extremely hard to get off this drug. I’ve been slow tapering for 1.5 years which is the only way to get off this drug without disastrous withdrawals with dizziness, irritability, headaches, Pain. Strongly discourage use. Never really helped depression. F 46 4 years

1  Chronic pain but it didn’t help No side effects but horrific withdrawal when trying to get off of it. Two years of withdrawal and still trying to get off. Started off with three days of grand mal seizures. Protracted nausea/vomiting resulting in several hospitalizations, 5 transfusions for bleeding esophagus(d/t vomiting). Made me an anorectic, lost 70 pounds and almost ended up with a feeding tube. Constant pain and body wide paresthesias. Serious balance problems, weakness and exhaustion. Brain fog, trouble with memory and reading. Barely able to take basic care of myself. This is hell, pure & simple. Eli Lilly hides the facts of withdrawal problems with this drug. Their documents state “1% or greater may experience withdrawal symptoms” when in fact, their own research demonstrates greater than 50% go through significant withdrawal which can last for several years. They have won their court cases because judges have said that “1% or greater” includes the real number of 50%. They are making billions on this poison and aren’t doing a thing to try and rectify and/or treat the issue of severe withdrawal. They don’t educate doctors on how to properly discontinue this drug to minimize the incidence of withdrawal. F 62 3 years

1  Fibromyalgia Increased pain, anxiety, depression, blurry vision, bed wetting, loss of libido, sexual dysfunction, clenching jaw which gave me TMJ, bone loss, dry mouth and eyes, hair loss, physically couldn’t cry, loss of emotions, lethargic, headaches, heart rythym issues. Withdrawal akathisia. Cymbalta is THE worst medication I have ever taken! I took it for 5 years, with 2 of those years spent tapering off. If you want to safely taper off Cymbalta, go to the Facebook group Cymbalta Hurts Worse! That group will save your life! F 57 5 years

1  Depression no emotions, not feeling well, muscle twitches and muscle aches, nightmares and night terrors, total loss of libido Because of the short half-life of this drug, withdrawal symptoms are horrible and protracted, and cold turkey can make a person incapable of caring for themselves or others. Withdrawal symptoms could last months or years. The only safe way to get off of this drug is 10% or less every 14 days to a month. I could not tolerate that rate and need to go down 3% each drop. I wish I never took this drug!!!! F 57 8 years

1  depression Vomiting, dizziness, forgetfulness, severe nausea, weight loss from vomiting, severe headaches, fatigue, acid reflux, many others. Not only did this not work, but it is incredibly difficult to come off of. Drs do not know how to take patients off. They do it very fast. You have to come off very slowly and you will still experience horrid side effects. You can develop permanent movements disorders. F 59 5 years

1  Chronic nerve pain Anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, dizziness, confusion, exhaustion, couldn’t concentrate, forgetful, weakness, inflammation, dry mouth, multiple cavities, teeth enamel loss, broken teeth at gum line, problems with urinating and emptying bladder, muscle weakness, overall body pain, misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia, loss of interest in everything and everyone, no motivation, lost ability to have an orgasm, alcohol and chocolate cravings, sweating, stomach problems, blurry vision, eye pain, constipation, muscle and joint pain, weight gain, high cholesterol, high cholesterol and high liver enzymes, brain fog, and hair loss. When I realized that all my symptoms were side effects of Cymbalta I started to slowly taper off it. That was over 2 years ago and I’m hoping to be completely off it in a couple months. I’ve had to open up the Cymbalta capsules and count the beads inside to taper slow enough so that I could handle the withdrawals. Cymbalta has taken over 10 years from me; but no more. I’ve been working so hard to get off Cymbalta so I can make up for the years I’ve lost with my children and grandchildren. Cymbalta almost ruined my life but I’m taking it back. I’m finally starting to see parts of the old ‘me’ again. I will never take Cymbalta again and I will never advise anyone else to take it. What I have gone through with Cymbalta has been a nightmare that I can’t wait to get out of. I don’t believe Cymbalta should have ever been approved by the FDA. F 60 10 years

1  Fibro Nausea, weight gain, cravings, discomfort. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about going on this medication to NOT! I was only on it for about a year, gained a bunch of weight, and now I’ve been trying to get off of it for over a year. The worse withdrawals. Suicidal thoughts and terrible mood swings. Please do your research before taking this poison. I didn’t and now I’m still suffering. And never quit cold turkey!!! F 34 0 days

1  Neuropathy & Anxiety Intense sweating, EXTREME anxiety & depression. Did absolutely nothing for nerve pain. Getting off this drug is the most horrific experience of my life. I wish you offered a 0 zero star rating as this poison is no where worthy of 1 star. This poison took close to 2 years to wean off of. F 47 3 years

1  Fibromyalgia I continuously lost words - words I know, I just couldn't recall them. The medication only worked for a month or two. Then nothing. The real kicker? Getting off it. Good luck with that. I reduced according to doctor's orders and went through a hellish withdrawal: diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, crying, painful muscle spasms, loss of thinking capacity, confusion, chills, sweats. I've been off it now for several months and I'm Still experiencing many of these withdrawal symptoms. This drug is brain poison. F 61 3 years

1  Depression & anxiety What I thought were benefits were extremely temporary. Horrible side effects. Unbearable sweating, severe insomnia, manic phases, completely changed my personality, made me emotionless. Trying to get off of it is a complete nightmare as well. Never in my life experience such severe withdrawals in my life as I have with Cymbalta. I will keep anyone I can from ever taking this medicine F 41 3 years

3  Fibromyalgia I'm so disappointed!! This medicine works great for my fibro pain the only problem is the horrible diarrhea side effect! I literally cannot eat anything at all without running to the bathroom! Tried calling my doctor twice to get a different medicine and he keeps telling me to tough it out and I can't! It's been 2 weeks of nothing but diarrhea. Im up to 4 imodium per day that does nothing, a probiotic, probiotic yogurt that also does nothing. If anyone has any advice on how to get off without going cold turkey let me know. I'm terrified to stay on this any longer and I think I need to find another doctor! Works great for pain, digestive side effects are horrid F 39 42 days

3  Anxiety/depression Diarrhea, shakiness/twitching, drowsiness, dizzy/lightheaded, mild weight loss, brain fog. Started on 30 mg a day and seemed to do ok for depression but not much for anxiety, but had constant diarrhea and mild weight loss. Which eventually faded for the most part after a few weeks. Also noticed a slight buzzing/tiny vibrations" in my tongue. Moved up to 30 mg Twice a day and noticed slight but very consistent teeth chattering, along with mild to moderate shakiness in the rest of my body. Also had random twitches or muscle spasms. I also had mild brain fog fairly regularly. However both my depression and anxiety seemed to be at bay. I have recently been moved back down to 30 mg a few days ago and I still notice the teeth chattering, muscle spasms, and occasional shakiness. As well as minor anxiety that seems to return at times since decreasing. F 29 3 months

1  Depression Horrible, horrible withdrawal , miss a pill in the am and you have withdrawal by the afternoon. Tried to get off it 5 times, got down the lowest dose every 2 days a d just wanted to kill everyone! So angry, my friends and co-workers told I was a very mean bitch. So I just gave up and started back. Last time I tried the Dr gave me Prozac, said I would not have any withdrawal ! Omg, wanted to kill myself and everyone else. I wish I could get off this med.  5  Major Depressive Disorder GAD,PTSD The first day I took the med I had some nausea and loss of appetite for the first 3 days. I noticed tons of energy! My appetite seems to be getting better. The depression felt like it left the first 3 to 4 days, but I had a med issue came up so that probably triggered some anxiety. Some blurring of my vision. I wear reading glasses but seems distance things become blurry on &off. This med has helped me a lot so far with the depression and anxiety. Ive been taking the 20 mgs instead of 40mgs yet due to the energy I feel I dont want to be up all night. Which Insomnia has been an issue for me and with the melatonin I'm able to sleep and not having to take it daily even right now. The thing that really concerns me is this med going to be affecting my vision, making it worse. Plus, having MDD trying if needed to have to get off this med. All the horror stories I'm hearing about weaning off and still having to live with all the suffering from all the withdraw symptoms just trying to get off of it. I recently had a genetic screening and waiting on my results. I'll go from there and see if theres possibly a better fit. I was just weaned off 10 mg of lexapro as I started this med. Lexapro only numbed things out and gave me a lot of suicidal ideation. I couldnt feel it cry This particular med seemed to flip me around, for the positive. I never had any tolerance to any meds as I'm sensitive to them and do not like taking even a tylenol. F 53 5 days
