CYMBALTA  (DULOXETINE):  Duloxetine is used to treat depression and anxiety. In addition, duloxetine is used to help relieve nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy) in people with diabetes or ongoing pain due to medical conditions such as arthritis, chronic back pain, or fibromyalgia (a condition that causes widespread pain). Duloxetine may improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level, and decrease nervousness. It can also decrease pain due to certain medical conditions. Duloxetine is known as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). This medication works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (serotonin and norepinephrine) in the brain.   FDA Approval Date: 2004-08-03 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  Panic attacks from Stress No side effects observed. See my review below I want to provide my review. I want first of all to inform all people that because a particular pill worked on somebody, it doesn't mean that it will work on all. I have many years panic attacks from Stress, while past year I had also negative thoughts. I started in June 2019 to take cymbalta 30 mg with the goal of going up to 60 in the next month. I didn't have any results yet so in the beginning of July I went up to 60 mg (of course as per my doctor's advice) After almost a month I started feeling a lot better. It really helped me a great deal and I would like to add the following : People on internet write their opinions scaring others. I have seen countless post about weight gain... For me it gave me the mood to do more exercise and from 85 kg I went to 75 kg and started being fit. Don't listen to every kind of bad review out there. It may have been bad for someone, but for others it can prove to be a good thing. I started trying to expose myself more to situations where I had panic attacks. My negative thoughts are almost gone. Give it a try (after first consulting your doctor of course) I wish you the best of luck. I know how bad it is to experience psychological problems.. I know how devastating it is for people. Don't ever think that because you are taking pills you are weak. And don't ever think that you get crazy. It's the fact that you realize your problem that makes you not crazy! I pray for all of you. Smile and try not to overstress yourselv M 31 11 months

4  Depression, Anxiety, Chronic Pain Gained over 50 pounds in about a year, sexual dysfunction, nausea early on I had been having severe depression/anxiety, panic attacks, chest pains and other chronic pain, and full-body tingles at night. Despite its physical side effects, Cymbalta eased these symptoms almost immediately and greatly stabilized and improved my quality of life. I'm a few weeks into the weaning-off process and haven't yet experienced any noticeable withdrawal symptoms. M 33 1.5 years

4  fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety Massive weight gain, unbearable nausea for the first week You can survive and even skip the first week of hell, I promise. This is the only medication that gave me a nearly pain-free life after suffering from fibromyalgia (diagnosed) since my late teens. For just the first week, I took prescription prochlorazine with the Cymbalta. It's a strong anti-nausea medication. I'd suggest asking your GP about prochlorazine when you start Cymbalta, because this medication is definitely worth it. My pain was crippling. I couldn't even walk around the block without resting. I couldn't function in daily life. Codeine barely took the edge off. Nowadays, I almost feel normal again, clear-headed and able-bodied. I can sleep at night. My depression and anxiety still exist, since my PTSD hasn't been cured, but they're more manageable. It will increase your appetite, though. I gained 100 pounds in one year. I suspect Cymbalta played a big role in that. F 34 6 years

5  PTSD & Fibromyalgia None I had been on Zoloft for 22 years due to PTSD and Fibromyalgia and it had worked fine until the Fibro ramped up to severe nerve pain on my left leg. My Dr. recommended I try Cymbalta and I didn't want to because of all the negativity I'd read. He said try it one month, so I agreed. There was no odd transferal from the Zoloft to the Cymbalta. I was flabbergasted when my pain went down 90% by the second day. I still can't believe it after four months. I have more energy; I'm more excited to get out and get things done. I've lost a little weight since I'm moving more. Things aren't perfect, but, heck, I'm an old lady ! I'm also the full time caretaker of a husband with dementia .... I need all the help and optimism I can get ! F 73 4 months

2  Anxiety panic disorder After approximately two weeks on the medication I began experiencing numbness and tingling in my hands. I also noticed that I seemed more anxious than what I had prior to beginning the medication. I have been a nurse for 14 years and in six months I will graduate as a nurse practitioner so I tried very hard to stay on the medication to see if the side effects would subside. Then after being on it approximately one month I began having tremors. These were especially notable in the mornings upon waking up. It was almost as if I had jerking movements even pouring a cup of coffee. This was especially frightening because my grandmother passed away from Parkinson’s disease. Then I almost immediately started having muscle twitches in my lower legs which is also frightening. I also experienced joint pain and severe muscle fatigue (especially in my upper and lower arms thighs and calves). Along with this cake joint pain and stiffness as well. After trying this drug for three months I am discontinuing use. The side effects have been horrific. However, for some people I hear this drug does work very well but for others who have side effects its extremely frustrating. Since I am a nurse and soon to be Nurse Practitioner I do not want to imply that this medication can’t work for some people. This medication may work wonders for some. However, in my experience and in the experience of multiple friends I know who have also taken this medication, it has caused extensive side effects. I am hoping that the withdrawal from this medication is not as horrible as everyone indicates. F 43 90 days
